Growing up (and to this day) one of my moms favorite things to tell me when I was tired, sick, emotional or blah was, “take a shower and you’ll feel better.” It’s one of those things I wanted to roll my eyes at but I couldn’t deny that it worked. What is it about a hot shower that provides a total physical and emotional release and reset? I feel like all is right in my world when I get out of a hot shower after a long day. It’s just a perfect transition into relaxation.
I have also come to appreciate hot showers as recovery from tough workouts and yoga practices. Back in the day when I used to distance run, the first thing I would do after a long run was hop in a hot shower and then bundle up in warm clothes and hit the couch with a recovery meal.
These days I love the post-yoga feeling of sweating it all out and then cleansing and release. I have been a product junkie since I was in high school and have always appreciated quality makeup, skin care and hair products. Using a nice shampoo and conditioner, body wash and facial cleanser in the shower and moisturizers, lotions and potions after seems to further my relaxation. I think it’s a sensory thing because it all smells and feels so good.
Recently I was provided the opportunity to try an new to me line of body products from Tata Harper thanks to Rank & Style. I was sent Tata Harper’s Rebuilding Moisturizer and Revitalizing Body Oil to sample and test.
I was really excited to try these products because they are natural, environmentally responsible and made in Vermont.
Y’all know from previous posts that I have been all about body oil lately so I was happy Rank & Style included that in my package. I have kind of given up on lotions in favor of oils. This body oil is perfectly moisturizing with a refreshing citrus scent. It sounds counter intuitive to say that an oil isn’t oily but this one isn’t once it absorbs into the skin. And while I’m pretty loyal to my current face care regimen, I did like the Rebuilding Moisturizer as something to throw on when I want to moisturize sans SPF after a shower.
The best part about all of this was discovering Rank & Style. I pretty much only buy new beauty products if they come recommended by a friend or beauty magazine that I respect. I used to LOVE to play and experiment with products and to go to the mall to shop but I have no time for that these days. I look to respected sources to guide me in right direction for all things beauty and fashion related.
So the way Rank & Style works is that they give provide Top 10 lists for a variety of categories like clothing, beauty, shoes, etc. The lists are created utilizing an algorithm that methodically researches and aggregates data (user reviews, bestseller lists, editorial recommendations and expert product reviews) from the department stores, boutiques, fashion blogs and style magazines. They take all the work out of research and give you tried and true Top 10. I have already signed up for their email newsletter that provides twice weekly Top 10 lists.
I spent some time on their site and especially loved the list of top skinny jeans as well as fall nail polish colors. If you are as indecisive and busy as me while still having an interest in top fashion an beauty products then I definitely suggest you check out Rank & Style!
How do you unwind and relax after a long day or hard workout? Anyone love the hot shower as much as me!?
These products were provided by Rank & Style but opinions on the products and the service are my own!
I feel the very same way about showers – nothing quite like a hot shower after a long run or hard workout!
Love hot showers! Sometimes it is just sooo hard to get out of that shower and then be freezing again. haha
Sometimes all I think about during runs is getting back and taking a long hot shower! There is something that just feels so amazing 🙂
I’ve heard such great things about Tata Harper products but haven’t heard of Rank & Style before. I’ll definitely be checking it out!
I’m training for a half and do the EXACT same thing when I get back from my long runs. Shower, comfy clothes and recovery meal!
I was so pleasantly surprise to see Tata Harper on your blog today! One of my absolute faves, I love so many of her products. Just thinking about a long, hot shower made me swoon and feel more relaxed 🙂 At my house there is only a tiny hot water heater (it’s underneath the kitchen counter). It’s so small that I have to take lightening fast showers or it’ll run cold, and that’s without running any hot water beforehand (no dishes, etc). Often I need to shut the water off while I lather up to have enough time. I’m seriously freaking out about training for my first half marathon this WINTER!
I totally agree that long hot showers are super relaxing. Something about them is so nice. I also love lighting a few candles and having a hot bath, but that doesn’t happen as often.
Even brewing a hot cup of tea and reading a little really helps me to relax.
That is funny, Jen…my Mom always tells me the same thing! I usually shower at least twice a day because of workouts, etc…and they are just so soothing! Definitely going to check out those beauty products. 🙂
There is nothing more relaxing to me than a long hot shower after a great workout!
i am definitely checking our Rank & Style. I’m the worst at researching forEVER and taking way too long to buy something. this will help! 🙂
