Today was a really good day. It started with a great workout with friends followed by an exciting meeting about my return to teaching yoga in Charlotte in January. I can’t wait to tell you more very soon. The rest of the day involved some work in a coffee shop, cuddles with my boy, a visit from Dorie, lasagna and quiet mama evening time.
While it was a good day, it was a very early one! I had my alarm set for 5 a.m. to meet my friends for our annual “Christmas Cookie Crusher Workout” but I woke up at 3:56 and just could not go back to sleep. I finally gave up and got up at 4:30 and made coffee and ate a pre-workout Larabar. I got some work done and then headed off to Metro Fitness Club for our workout.
Ahhhh it was just like old times. There were supposed to be five of us but life happens so we finished with three. I miss working out with these girls so much! I trained them at 5:30 a.m. for a few years. While I don’t miss training clients at 5:30 a.m., it was really nice to be up and at ’em this morning! (Finn was with his dad last night.)
This was the fourth annual Christmas Cookie Crusher and it’s such a fun holiday tradition. This year’s workout was a chipper-style workout with 25 reps of 25 different exercises. We kicked it off with a one mile “jingle jog” to take in the Christmas lights on one of Charlotte’s most festive streets. My friends were just happy that I didn’t make them carry med balls on the run this year. Haha.
As always, I have put together both gym and home versions for you guys. The gym version took us about 35-40 minutes to complete. I haven’t tried the home version. The home version has a 0.25 mile run every 5 exercises so you’ll end up running 1.5 miles as part of that workout!
Here are the details!

As always, I’d love your feedback if you try the workouts. Please feel free to leave a comment if you have questions about any of the movements. I’ll try to answer them ASAP.
Happy sweating, happy holidays and merry, merry!
These are the best. I will do this tomorrow and report back. How long did it take you guys to complete the workout? Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays!
Could you explain what a “calorie row” is? I’ve never heard of that, and my Google-fu is failing me!
Yes, you change to settings on the rower display to row for calories. Row until it gets to 25! Should take 1-2 minutes!
This looks great…and I’m excited to try it! One suggestion I have for the home workouts is, could you possibly provide a different cardio option than the .25 mile run? It’s difficult for people who live in cold climates ( like Austria!) to work out inside and then change shoes, throw on layers and run for a couple minutes, then take off shoes, layers, etc….). I’m sure jumping jacks or jump rope might be a suitable option. Or perhaps just doing the whole run at the beginning of the workout. What do you suggest? Thanks! Always love a good home workout with two little ones. And also love your 30-40 minute yoga videos. Merry Christmas!
Thanks for sharing! This will be great to try out.
Did this at noon on Christmas Eve! Awesome pre-Christmas festivities workout, thank you!! Finished in 31 min 🙂 Home version. I did 2 min of jumping jacks or high knees in place of the 0.25mile run.
Hey there, Merry Christmas, and thanks for the workout plan! I’ve now done a slightly modified version twice so far (I can’t run thanks to an injury and so used my at-home stationary bike to get some cardio in). I often slack during holiday travel, so this was helpful for motivation 🙂
Thanks Jen! Did this as a post Christmas workout! I did the gym version at home and subbed the kettlebells for 20lbs dumbbells and calorie rows for 1 min high knees.
Keep these at home workout ideas coming. It took me about 35 minutes to do and it was amazing how fast it went in comparison to my 45 minute gym workout sessions!
Also want to thank you for being so open about your relationship with Finn and also his father. Looking forward to hearing more about your plans to coparent and hear about the challenges that you will work through.
Thanks again from Niagara Falls, Canada!

Thanks for this, Jen! I’ve been saving this workout as an option all break. Ironically I did it on Wednesday, the first day of my kids being back in school bc I didn’t want to workout in the gym and I wanted to run and do some strength work. It was perfect.
