Since giving up the 9-5 life my wardrobe mostly consists of workout and lounge clothes. I’m lucky to put jeans on once a week and my work clothes have been hanging in my closet neglected for nearly four years now. Every year I donate more and more of them to Goodwill. I keep thinking I’m going to have an occasion to wear my suits again…but I don’t.
Instead I look like this most of the time.
A weird mix of workout + casual clothes. I really try to look somewhat presentable and put together when I’m training clients and running around town for social commitments and errands (when I am teaching hot yoga I kind of give up because it’s impossible to look presentable when it’s 100 degrees in your work environment).
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been “that girl” that shows up to lunches, dinners, meetings etc. in workout clothes but it’s the best I can do when I’m running between the yoga studio, the gym and my computer all day.
I used to feel guilty about spending money on this type of clothing but it essentially is my work wardrobe now so I’ve cut myself some slack. It is my “professional” look.
I have several go-to staples in my wardrobe and wanted to share them with you. They’re great items for lounging, errands, weekend, after class.
I am SO OBSESSED with this scarf. I wear it almost daily and I never travel without it. There are so many ways you can wear it (check out this video from Lululemon that shows 10 ways to wear it.) I mostly wear it as a scarf draped or doubled but love it unbuttoned as a blanket/throw or head rest as well.
I have these seamless, padded, one-size-fits-all bras in several colors. They’re so comfortable for both daytime layering and lounging. I wear them all the time!
I bought these as an alternative to Lululemon’s Wunder Under pants last December and have worn them nonstop ever since. They fit great, love the quality and Athlete offers a 30% discount to fitness professionals so it was a great deal!
Mossimo Women’s Layering Tank from Target
This long, thin tank top from Target has become a staple for me this spring for layering. I have it in four colors. It looks great with everything from shorts to jeans to the Chaturanga tights…especially with a Coobie bra underneath.
Once the weather finally gets warm enough that the Uggs can be retired to the back of my closet, my Havaianas become my staple warm weather footwear. I cycle through at least 1-2 pairs of these every season. They are comfy and cute!
These five items of clothing are seriously on my body more days of the week than not. I hop you love them as much as I do! 🙂
Do you have any new hang out/lounge/comfy clothes recommendations to share?
I never understood the Lululemon hype until I bought my first pair of running tights from there last year (on a really good sale!). They’re just amazing. They don’t ride up or down, and the ones I got are lined with fleece, which is so perfect for the cold winters. I almost hate to wear them to run in because they’re so nice!
that’s awesome liv! it is crazy what a difference it can make to invest in higher quality workout wear. i have never thrown a single piece of lulu away. it stays good for a long time!
I live in comfy clothes too but try, at least sometimes, to put on my jeans and get “dressed” more often! Love my leggings though! And yes to the Vinyasa scarf. I never know if I am doing it right but with so many ways to wear it, I don’t think I can be wrong.
haha, i totally agree with “there are so many ways you can’t be wrong!”
I LIVE in those types of clothes. I try to look at least “put together” so I do invest in Lululemon and Athleta products. I wanted to get the Lulu leggings that have mesh at the bottom but they ran out.
i tried on the mesh ones but they didn’t look right on me. my legs are too short and there was too much mesh going on down there. i see other people wear them all the time in class though and they’re so cute!
I love the lulu lemon unlined studio pant. A little pricey but I got a pair as a gift last year and love and wear them so much that this Christmas I got another. To me they feel like a comfy pair of sweats but look more presentable and are more flattering. Love them!
i love my studio pants too! they’re so great for errands and lounging! (although i don’t like to workout in them)
I love my studio pants too! So sad that they no longer make them. I wear the 2 pairs I have all the time & wish I could buy more…
Do you workout in the coobie? I’ve heard great things about them. Thanks.
no, usually just lounge/teaching but i think i’d be okay to workout in it because i don’t need a lot of support. if you did…i would say not a great choice for jumping around.
Not really lounge clothes, but I like the Lululemon run inspire crops and Brooks pureflow 3 shoes.
I might have to try the Coobie bra, what colors do you like best?
i want to try the pure flows. i need new running shoes and have heard good things about them.
i have the coobie in black, aqua and a tie dye. don’t think you can go wrong with any color!
I live in workout clothes and lounge clothes! Right now…in college…there is only a bigger reason to keep doing that, haha!
Have you checked out Fabletics yet?? It’s one of those monthly deal websites but the clothes are amazing quality. I like their yoga tights more than my Athleta ones!! And they have a range of clothes from work out to comfy lounging too! they offer you monthly outfits, usually 2 or 3 pieces, for $50-$70. Can’t beat it!!
hey brittany, i have not! thanks for reminding me. i need to check it out!
I’ve never heard of the Coobie bra but it looks awesome for lounging! (I have some sad, old Gap and Target ones that I need to toss…this looks like the perfect replacement!) I finally jumped on the Lulu bandwagon a few years ago and now own a 2 pairs of crops, 4 sports bras (2 of the Free To Be and 2 of the Flow Y – I have a tiny chest and love their padding!) and most recently a super warm long-sleeved sweater that happened to be on sale in my size. I’ve heard such amazing things about that scarf, it’s definitely next on my list of splurges! Thanks for the recs!
i love, love, love the padding in the lulu stuff too! it’s game changing for small chested women. get the scarf. you will love!
Your wardrobe is exactly like mine, Jen! I’ve been ‘that girl’ for a couple of years now, so my friends know what to expect lol. I’ve gotten pretty creative about pairing my workout clothes with casual/formal, which makes it pretty fun. Please share more of your combos 🙂
-Michele
i will! i try really hard to get creative with making my outfits look like a cross between real people clothes and “i’m going to the gym!”
Love all of these! I’m a PT and never knew that about Athleta! How do you get the 30% discount as a fitness professional??
Seconding Ali’s question about the discount! Thanks!
hi ladies! go to your local store and bring in a copy of your certification. they have you fill out a form that gets you this 30% discount in their system. it’s on full-price merchandise only. you have to reapply anunally.
i always eye that scarf when i go into lululemon, but i haven’t pulled the trigger. i am about to get on a 17 hour flight to africa though and that might be just the excuse i need…
yes! for sure. i never fly without mine!
HA! This looks exactly like my wardrobe…I am a huge fan of Lulu’s Energy Bra. Since my boobs have shrunk a little, I can run in these and I absolutely love them. I’m going to have to check out that Target top. I gave up on Athleta. They just don’t compare to Lulu. It is just not the same fit…Happy Weekend friend!
the only things i have from athleta are a few pairs of these leggings. i haven’t even tried their tops but i see a lot of my yogis wearing them in class.
hope you have a great weekend too! xo
I think you were reading my mind! I was trying to figure out where I should go for some comfy layering bras and tanks. I am also obsessed with scarves and will of course have to invest in a LuLu Vinyasa scarf!
PS – I just made my first batch of peanut butter granola….it is so delicious, I can’t stop eating it. Might be a problem. 🙂
they have a really pretty purple color of the vinyasa scarf right now at the southpark store. check it out!
and i had to stop making the granola for a while. at one point we were going through four batches in one week. it was a little much! 🙂
Are these bras comfy enough for sleeping? I need some new tank style bras for sleeping but normally stay away from padded. I like to wear something wireless to bed if I’m wearing a tshirt.
Jen can you recommend a good yoga mat?
I love the lulu capris! They are perfect for spring!
I totally need to get my hands on some of those coobie bras – all I do is layer & I practically live in cotton tanks and t-shirts, so these will be so perfect to wear underneath – I especially love the colors.
Where do you get the coobie bras? I would like to try it on before purchasing. Thanks ~ ch
Got a Coobie and it is really comfortable, although I found the pads pretty poor and. so replaced with Handful pads. Thanks for the rec!
