Hi and hope everyone has enjoyed the weekend. Read to the end of the post for an inspirational marathon story.
I have two new Spotify playlists for you and the weekly workout recap.
First up is a yoga playlist. Spotify kinda drives me crazy in that they don’t have a lot of the remixes of songs that I play.
So what I did here was put the original version of the song before the remix that’s unavailable on Spotify. (For the record, I still make my yoga playlists on iTunes and sync them to my iPod before every class…I started using Spotify to share playlists with students and y’all).
Here are the Soundcloud links to the remixes that aren’t on Spotify:
Sigur Ros – Saeglopur (Enigma Remix)
Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Just a Gent Remix)
Adventure Club – Wait (Culture Code Remix)
And here is a one hour workout playlist with my favorite upbeat, get sweating songs for the month of May.
Enjoy and let me know if you have any recommendations or song suggestions. Always looking for music inspiration! ๐
I had a good week of workouts with the usual balance of strength, yoga and running. Less running this week, a little more strength and not as much yoga as I’d like but overall good. I’m still trying to up my strength work a little and am happy with what I did this week.
Monday
Memorial Day hot yoga (always fun to take on a holiday!) + 4 mile walk
Tuesday
Hot yoga and strength
Fun story…I taught three hot classes and took a class on Tuesday morning. I felt SO GROSS after all of that sweating so I got all showered, hair did, makeup on, etc. just to feel human. I trained a client at the gym and really wanted to lift a little after but didn’t want to sweat again. I told her I was going to set my intention not to sweat…and it worked! Haha…
3 rounds:
15 back squats (75#)
10 ring rows
20 walking lunges (10 each leg) holding dumbbells (15#)
10 overhead db press (15#)
10 bicep curls (15#)
10 overhead triceps extension (15#)
10 dumbbell chest fly (15#)
20 supine toes to bar
3 rounds:
15 deadlifts (75#)
10 push ups
Wednesday
CrossFit
While I might have avoided sweating on Tuesday, I drowned in a pool of my own sweat on Wednesday.
5 rounds for time:
20 box jumps (20 inch box)
10 hang power snatch (55#)
20 kettlebell swings (35#)
This took me around 17 minutes and was super challenging. Great cardio WOD and the snatches got hard in rounds 4 and 5. WOD courtesy of Metro CrossFit.
Thursday
3 mile run
Friday
Hot yoga
Yoga was cray cray hot on Friday…like 97 degrees and 80% humidity hot.
Saturday
10 minutes of double under practice + CrossFit
For time:
400m run
50 wall balls (14# ball)
400m run
15 power clean and jerks (65#)
400m run
15 power clean and jerks
400m run
50 wall balls
First, 10 minutes of double unders is no joke. I emerged from that with my heart pounding, sore calf muscles and a few good lash marks. This was a good WOD. For me the run was recovery…50 wall balls in a row is a lot and I had to break them into sets of 10 or 15. I could have gone with 75# for the clean and jerks (which was the RX weight) but I literally had 20 minutes to get this workout done and had I gone heavier, it would have added a couple of minutes onto my time and I was scared to risk it. I finished in a 18:30ish. Workout modified from Metro CrossFit.
Sunday
Not sure yet. I will probably go for a 3 mile run…or just walk. Something relatively low key.
Needing some inspiration for your week of workouts ahead?

A 92-year-old Charlotte woman finished the Rock & Roll San Diego Marathon today. She finished in 7:24 and is the oldest woman to ever finish a marathon. She’s run the race 16 out of the last 18 years that it’s been in existence. You must read her story…it’s amazing.

How did you workout this week? How did you push yourself?
Thanks for the playlists on spotify…I’ve really been enjoying using them for morning (at home) yoga sessions and while running, and appreciate your posting them. They’re great and have also introduced me to some songs/artists that I really enjoy.
thanks so much for the new spotify playlists – I really appreciate your putting them together and posting them! I’ve been enjoying them during my morning (at home) yoga and on runs, and you’ve introduced me to a number of new-to-me songs and artists. I really appreciate good playlists for workouts but never make the time to put them together, so a huge thank you for sharing yours!
You’re welcome! Happy to hear it!
Wow, that story about the 92 year old marathoner is amazing! Definitely going to try to think about her this week when I inevitably lose motivation.
I love the playlists, and what a fabulous inspiration! The woman is so adorable!
