Part two of my weekend included a shopping trip, sushi and normal Sunday stuff.
On Saturday afternoon I made a trip to Nordstrom Rack in search of white jeans (my favorite pair had an unfortunate encounter with red wine at a party that left them beyond saving ). While I didn’t find any white jeans I did pick up a some white shorts along with several other things. I love Nordstrom Rack. It’s probably my top place to shop these days when I’m just looking for cute clothes to add to my wardrobe.
I actually ended up buying a whole outfit without realizing it. The shorts are Joe’s Jeans and the top is Tart and I’m obsessed! I love anything with an open/dramatic back.
I wasn’t going to look at shoes but a 5-minute wander through the shoe section left me with these perfect neutral wedges. I predict that I will get a ton of wear out of these. They were $34 AND they’re comfortable. Deal of the summer!
I also got this top for $16!
And this hoodie. I know it doesn’t look like much but it’s so insanely soft and really cute and comfortable on. I pretty much live in this type of stuff so it’s nice to have some non-Lulu in my collection. I think the retail on this was like $98 and I got it for a little over $30.
Well, there’s some PBR fashion for you. Expect another one of these posts in, oh…6 months or so. 😉
It was only right to take my new outfit out on the town so I met some friends at Sushi Guru on Saturday night. It’s my favorite sushi in Charlotte. We know the head sushi chef/owner so we decided to go with the “chef’s creation” dinner where he kind of creates a sushi experience based on what you like/he feels like making. We told him we’d eat anything but lower on the carbs so he started us out with this crab and avocado roll wrapped in cucumber and topped with an orange roe and a delicious sesame sauce. If you’ve never tried your sushi wrapped in cucumber, you must. It’s so good!
Our main course was a sampler platter. Starting at top left was the star of the plate. The chef created a glass pot with coffee beans, smoke and fish. When you opened the jar smoke escaped from it. The fish was left with a slight smoked flavor and absolutely melted in your mouth. He also included a tuna jalapeño roll, a fried wonton topped with what I can only describe as a tuna meatball and a cucumber wrapped, flash fried crab and tuna roll with shaved fennel and a citrus vinaigrette.
Each one of us agreed that this was hands-down the best sushi we have ever had.
Dessert was mango sorbet wrapped in mochi and served over a tangerine slice. I have a very soft spot in my heart for mochi so this was the perfect Asian-themed dessert for me.
Annnnddddd this pretty much sums up my Sunday. I got up to teach “yoga church” at 9:15 and brunch after with yoga friends. I came home and passed out with Sullie for an afternoon nap. The rest of my day involved a 4 mile run, a massage and a huge plate of roasted veggies.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Where is your favorite place to “bargain shop?” Clearly for me it’s Nordstrom Rack.
And shopping…love it, hate it or just “eh” about it? I used to LOVE to shop in high school and college but that has really died down over the years. I’d rather spend my money on good food, travel, house stuff, etc. these days.
I’m the same when it comes to shopping. I’ll buy stuff for my home, or cool kitchen tools all day long, but I hate buying clothes. Even though I also loved it in high school & college. My problem is I’m trying to lose weight and I’m not into any of the current styles. Mostly skinny jeans. I hate/loathe/despise skinny jeans and that’s pretty much all you can find these days. I haven’t been able to find a decent pair of boot cut jeans in ages.
heather – i could see how that would be a shopping problem. i feel you, it seems like EVERYTHING is “skinny” these days!
Such cute clothes!! I just bought a pair of neutral wedges myself and I am so in love with them 🙂
Yeah, same here – nowadays I proritize other things than an abundance of clothes and shoes. Plus living in London makes me loathe running around in shops as there are just people/tourists everywhere.
i can imagine that would be a headache!
Such cute clothes! I love the back of that first top! I’m obsessed with the Loft Outlet and the Bloomingdales Outlet. I can’t walk in without buying something at either!
ooohhh, i’ve never been in a bloomingdale’s outlet but i’m sure i would love!
I am the worlds worst shopper!! I tire out after about 15 minutes….!! Ok, well Costco shopping is another story because I get to eat WHILE shopping… but true “mall shopping” and “cloth shopping” I am just a whiny 5 year old– I’ll admit it!!
Fave bargain shopping= Costco/target. As long as my life has these 2 stores I am golden 🙂
costco is so fun! we used to always plan trips to sam’s club around lunch so we could sample. i love target too!
You are absolutely beautiful. “Wow!!” just doesn’t say enough.
thanks jeremy, very sweet.
I need someone to shop for me…HA! I always find great deals at the Gap or Piperlime, where they have a section called “Girl on a budget”. It’s awesome, if you like on-line shopping. I also like Target for cute tops to throw over yoga clothes. But having a stylist would be so awesome…hehe…Happy Monday!
i have never shopped through piperlime. i will have to check out girl on a budget FOR SURE! i love target too…and i definitely need a stylist!
love the outfit!!! and…that sweet photo of sullie…melt.my.heart!
thanks! and i know…she’s so sweet.
I’m definitely not a shopper. I always have a list, and like to get in and out in as little time as possible.
LOVE that Tart top. I also love anything with a dramatic back, especially dresses.
That top is adorable – I always love shirts with somewhat of a ruffle-y-thing going on at the top because it gives the illusion of more happening in the chest area, which is defffinitely something I need. Love the idea of cucumber-wrapped sushi too, will have to try that – thanks for the idea!
ditto meghan! i need that illusion something serious! 😉
Go to the BP (juniors) section at the top of Nordstrom at South Park and they have the best white jeans I promise 🙂 That’s where I get mine and they are some brand that starts with a J and they are like $42!! I got them last year in black and white and then have had to go get them again for a different size this year and they are still there! Great stretchy, durable jeans I promise!! 🙂
blaire – thanks SO much for the tip. i’m going to head over there and check it out!
Oh how I love Nordstrom Rack! Birmingham just got one and I am obsessed! I use to be a HUGE shopper, but since I now live in gym clothes all day my $ goes towards good aerobic shoes rather than designer jeans.
colleen – same here! it’s hard to justify buying “real clothes” when you’re in gym clothes all day every day. although i do usually spluge on lulu since this is my work wardrobe now and i want to look cute/put together!
I knew that top was Tart! It’s one of my favorite brands and even better when you get it on sale! I have a couple of their infinity dresses, a romper, a jumpsuit, a maxi skirt…yeah it’s just so comfy and flattering!
cool! i will have to check out more of their stuff now!
LOVE your new outfit!!
thank you so much julie!
I just found your blog the other day and I am really enjoying it. Thank You! By the way, what is “yoga church”? Just curious.
