I don’t write “favorites” posts very often but I know it’s time when I find myself keeping a running list of things in my head that I “have to tell you guys about.” In this case, I actually made a list in the Notes app on my phone because I had so many ideas for things to include in this post. I’m actually skipping the books and podcasts that I had written down and turning that into their own post. It’s been too long since we’ve talked books and reading around here!
I’ve got a fun mix of things here ranging from holiday thermal PJ sets to sneakers to jewelry. Make sure to read through the end because there’s a great discount code for my readers from my friend Erin McDermott!
THERMAL HOLIDAY PJ SETS
I like the Stars Above loungewear at Target because it’s super soft and comfortable. When I saw that they had thermal holiday PJ sets I couldn’t resist. Well, I tried to resist and ended up buying them on my next Target run…and I’m so glad that I did. These Pjs are so cute and comfy! At just $25 per set, they are reasonably priced and they have quite a few fun patterns.
I think I may order this pattern too. For reference, I got a small and they fit great. I would recommend sizing up one size from your normal, especially if you like your PJs a little oversized like I do.
These thermal PJ sets would also make for a great holiday gift!
BROOKS REVEL 4 (ESPECIALLY THIS GOLD COLOR!)
I partnered with Brooks recently and ordered my first pair of their Revel 4 shoes when making product selects. I’m SO happy that I did because they are my new favorite shoe for everything! I’ve worn them to run and workout and also just as a casual shoe for travel or day-to-day mom life. My first pair was this black and white pattern. They go with everything and I liked them so much that I ordered the gold ones.
10/10 recommend if you’re looking for a comfortable casual shoe or a neutral running/working out shoe. Note, I am a 7.5 in dress and size 8 fits me perfectly in these shoes. I have also washed mine several times and they’re holding up great!
VIRGIN RIVER
Well friends, I somehow got distracted by Virgin River while browsing Netflix in my west to watch all of the cheesy holiday movies. I’m on season one, episode seven and thoroughly enjoying it! 🙂
A NEW BLACK JACKET
I was in desperate need of a new black jacket that could be dressed up or down after wearing an Under Armour Jacket for the last three years that is awesome and warm but lacking style and length. I ended up with this quilted cocoon puffer from J. Crew and it’s perfect! I love the gold details, the slightly longer length that covers my butt but doesn’t go to my knees and the really big oversized pockets. It’s a great jacket to wear with jeans and boots or just on walks with the dogs! It’s on sale right now 15% off and an extra 20% with code FESTIVE. It comes in several different color options.
ERIN MCDERMOTT JEWELRY
When am I not loving Erin McDermott Jewelry? I would guess that 80% of my jewelry collection is made by Erin and I constantly get compliments on what I wear. Lately, I’ve been wearing this triple layer gold necklace a lot. It’s on sale right now for just $36!
I’ve also found that the mixed metals version of this multi-bar long necklace is versatile and goes great with so many things.
Finally, Erin has so many amazing bracelet bundles on her site that would make for awesome holiday gifts! Be sure to check out all of the fun options in the bracelet category.
SURPRISE DISCOUNT!!!! 30% OFF WITH CODE PBR
I sent Erin a quick text while I was writing this post and she’s offered you guys 30% off of your order with code PBR. I hope this helps with some of your holiday shopping and gift ideas! 🙂 Don’t forget, I LOVE the gold bar necklace as a meaningful gift. I have one with Finn’s name and another with Sullie’s name and birthday. <3
Erin is fellow Charlotte mom of three girls and runs this small business out of her home studio. She’s one of the kindest, most generous, warm-hearted, fun and loving women that I know and I’m so honored to call her a friend and to do anything that I can to support her business.
QUESTIONS
What’s your PJ/loungewear style? Do you like PJ sets or do you just wear a mix of cozy things?
Any cookbooks that you’re loving right now?
What shoes are you wearing the most now that it’s gotten colder out?
Love your blog. It’s the only one I still read. Love real food by Kathryne Taylor is my go to cook book right now. I can totally see it lining up with your cooking/ baking style.
Disappointed to see you support the Food Babe. She seems like a super fear monger who is, among other things, anti flu vaccine. Her schtick of using rhetoric like claiming foods are “dirty” or “bad” because of “chemicals” in them seems opposite of how you live and eat.
I came here to say the exact same thing. I’m a big fan of yours, Jen, but the Food Babe is alarmingly anti-science. You can promote healthy and organic eating without the nonsense she spews about all chemicals being toxic. For goodness sake, water is a chemical. Her anti-vaccine stance is also incredibly disturbing, especially given our current global situation and the fact that vaccines seem to be the only way we’ll ever get Covid and the tragic amount of death it’s causing behind us. Her post about flu vaccines is filled with horrifying inaccurate statements (like the flu vaccine is not a “real” vaccine because it needs updating every year…it needs updating every year because the flu mutates more often than most viruses and the strain of flu circulating is slightly different year, as most rational people know). I was really disappointed to see this and knowing you support her and promote her products gives me pause about continuing to follow you.
I’m so glad to see other people posting about how dangerous Food Babe is. She’s a fear monger who doesn’t understand actual science, and is more concerned with shilling her own products than helping people live a healthier life.
I really hope Jen is more into the recipes and knows to research and not believe the tripe that Food Babe spews. She is a fear monger, anti-science, and rivals Jenny McCarthy and Dr Oz in their ridiculousness. Her stance on the flu vaccine shows how she doesn’t research things before posting them. I am not sure if anyone who knows of her article about air in airplanes, which is how I first heard of her, and she got pushback that caused her to delete it I believe. I also second the other poster–giving these anti-vaccine people power in the age of covid is dangerous. Getting the proper scientific message out is key (by people with actual credentials–which by the way this lady has no qualifications to even be talking about nutrition or science) as getting people to trust the vaccine is the only way we will be able to start getting back to normal.
Wow. This is alarming to hear and really dangerous, especially during a global pandemic.
Jen – I hope you consider posting a retraction or, at the very least, removing your endorsement of this book on your site. I’m a longtime follower of your work and found you through Erin. Please think of your audience and everyone who reads what you’re recommending. “Opinions” like this are truly horrifying and damaging and do not deserved to be amplified.
Hi everyone – thanks for sharing your concern over the cookbook recommendation. I went ahead and just deleted it from the post. While I have been familiar with Food Babe for years because she also lives in the Charlotte area, I don’t follow her work closely enough to even respond to these comments in a meaningful way. She sent me a copy of the cookbook and I was impressed by how simple, easy and doable the recipes in it were but seeing how triggering the overall recommendation has been leads me to remove it from the post. I really appreciate everyone who has shared thoughts and concerns.
I love Brooks so much – my favorite brand to run in by far. I got the Christmas version of the Revel last year and am so tempted to get the new festive 2020 version that just came out!
I appreciate the cookbook rec but also find associating healthy with “clean food” as being problematic and in support of diet culture. I work in ED care and treatment as an RD so also maybe am just more attune to this than others. I believe that all foods fit, which means even “clean recipes”, but the more we can shift away from language that seems to convey good/bad the more helpful it will be in nuturing a positive relationship with food. I always tell my clients and patients, I don’t care what you eat, I care more about the motivation and reasons behind your choices and that you are choosing to nourish your body in a way that promotes a holistic view of health, which from reading your blog, is something I know you support too, Jen!
Would love more frequent favorite posts – can’t wait to hear what you’ve been reading. I just finsihed Big Summer and The Wedding Date!
I usually wear just a mix of comfy shirts and sweat pants. I do like those pj’s you posted–I might have to check them out. I have been a fan of Ottolenghi and lately, the book Falastin. Ottolenghi’s book Jerusalem is one I have been pulling out. It makes me nostalgic for my childhood in Israel eating foods I remember. Someone handed me a copy of the cookbook How not to die,but I haven’t dove too much into it.
