I am happy to report that I’m back in Charlotte. Today was a LONG day!
My alarm when off at 4 a.m. in Cancun. Our group of stranded stragglers met in the lobby of our hotel at 4:45 a.m. to head to the airport. (Thanks to the Marriott Casamagna for accommodating us when our trip was unexpectedly extended.)
Once we got to the airport…things got a little crazy. We were originally supposed to fly direct to Charlotte but due to the flight cancellation, we were rebooked on connecting flights. Our understanding was that we were going to Miami and then on to Charlotte but once we checked in and got to the ticketing counter, we discovered that three of us were going to Dallas-Fort Worth instead.
Long story short…after spending a solid 45 minutes with the ticketing agent in Cancun at 5 a.m., I ended up on a flight to Dallas.
The flight was nearly empty so I had a row to myself to stretch out, read, sleep and work during the flight.
Things got fun in Dallas. First, it was FREEZING so I sported this hot flip flop + sock look with no shame whatsoever for the remainder of my travel. Second, my bag never made it out to go through customs. I cleared customs sans-bag and prayed it would magically arrive in Charlotte.
All that aside, I have never flown through DFW before and it’s such a nice airport. I had a great experience there with everything from customs to transportation to food.
I felt so grateful to snag a spot on a sold-out flight to Charlotte. Everything was a little crazy given the cancellations from yesterday. I ate a pretty delicious salad on the flight with grilled chicken, spinach, gorgonzola, dried cranberries, grapes and shredded carrots. I added some nuts to it along with a mix of balsamic and honey mustard.
I’m sure no one is surprised to read that my bag did not make it to Charlotte. I spent a good hour with the lost baggage people and the end result is that they have absolutely no idea where it is. It has no record of being scanned in anywhere…not in Cancun, not in Dallas, not in Charlotte. I’ve never had a bag this “lost” before so I’m a little (a LOT!) nervous!
Seeing this face helped a little. I got home and it was full speed ahead back into the normal routine. I made a super quick Whole Foods trip to restock on the necessities and then taught two back-to-back sold out classes at Charlotte Yoga. It felt really great to teach.
Dinner was simple but really good. I made a big pan of roasted veggies with sweet potatoes, purple top turnips and Brussels sprouts and baked a piece of salmon along with it.
It’s been a long day and I am falling asleep while typing this…I have 5:30 a.m. clients tomorrow so I need to get to bed.
Have you ever dealt with lost luggage? How did you deal?
Have you ever tried roasted turnips? I just started making them recently and love them!
I hope they find your bag!!
Whoa! Sounds like a stressful/frustrating and long day. I’m glad you got home safe and sound though, even if your bag has yet to join you. I’m praying to the travel gods that it finds it way back to you ASAP! 😉
I so hope your bag catches up to you in CLT. There was a point where my husband and I flew 6 times in a year and he was 3 for 6 with bags being “lost”! (Different airlines too) They were delivered to our house eventually but so inconvenient. I try to carry in as often as possible now.
I’m sure it was nice to see your furry baby upon arriving home!
Well I’m glad everything turned out OK!
Oh goodness- I hope they find your bag and fast! I live in fear of that and try to go everywhere without checking my bag which is not always possible!
Hopefully you have some time to breathe today because yesterday sounded very stressful! I’ve never had a bag lost but my friend did once and I now don’t check a bag unless it’s absolutely necessary haha.
Oh nooo! I hope they find your bag! That’s one of my biggest fears when I travel. I’ve had my luggage lost a few times but usually they deliver it to my door about 1-3 days after. I hope that happens to you as well!
I can definitely empathize: I hate that dread of not seeing my bag on the carousel post-flight. I usually try to pack minimally now and carry on. But whenever we fly internationally we use World Nomads travel insurance. Pretty cheap (considering) and great coverage, better than the airline for sure.
Hope you get your stuff back, lady! Keep us updated!
Oh no!!!! I hope you get your bag back. Mine has gotten lost way too many times and it always found its way back to me, but I don’t think anyone ever told me it had never been scanned. yikes. I hope they find it. I would be stressed to!
Good luck with your Friday and happy weekend!
YIKES! I have lost my luggage before and it is a pain and it made me nervous as heck to, but in the end you have to remember that it is just “stuff”. Yes Dallas is cold…Houston was really cold this AM when I went on a run. I hope you can get some rest this weekend and get back into your routine…Crossing fingers and toes for your luggage! XOXO
fear not! your bag will definitely turn up. it’s extraordinarily rare for an airline to actually lose a bag these day. i travel all the time and my bags have been lost many times. once they even tagged my bag to another passenger and it went to a different city. it took a few days, but eventually it arrived 🙂
ive never had that lost of luggage. just luggage that made it on a flight when i didnt but it was there when i arrived. i hope typing this is not jinxing me !!!!
my dad always says when i have travel issues….the entire point of travel is to make you appreciate your own home/bed. i traveled this past week and getting into my bed for the first time when i got home was one of the best feelings ever. that and seeing furry babies waiting at the door for you !
We recently had a bag lost for the first time ever. The part that killed me was that it was lost for a direct hour and a half flight. When we arrived they had no idea where it was as it had not been scanned. I think it probably got overlooked when we checked it as we had to carry it to another area for them to screen it. It did turn up about 12 hours later and the airline delivered it to us. I hope they find your bag soon, but on the bright side better to have this happen on the way home than when arriving on vacation!
