Catching up on the weekend? Check out part one (including my long run) here.
After Saturday’s long run, errands and updating the blog, I had a really hard time peeling myself off the couch. The one thing that I was motivated to move for was lunch (and the possibility of a bloody mary!). Brandon and I finally decided to try Owen’s Bagel & Deli after hearing really positive reviews from friends.
Owen’s is different from your typical bagel sandwich because the sandwiches are made to order and steamed. The steaming is the best part – it yields a soft and warm (but not mushy) bagel and melty cheese. Yum!
I noticed that Owen’s had homemade hummus so I based my sandwich off that. Whole wheat bagel with hummus, pepper jack, lettuce, avocado and sprouts. SO GOOD. I’m going to get the same thing next time but add tomatoes. We have a new favorite lunch spot!
After lunch we ran errands, dreamed about new bedroom furniture at West Elm and then stopped in Vivace for the best post-long run treat – a bloody mary! ๐
We spent the rest of the afternoon looking at things for the house and hanging out. We rented Couples Retreat last night and while it was entertaining, it wasn’t great. I usually love Vince Vaughn but this wasn’t my favorite of his movies. Regardless, it was fantastic to watch a movie on the couch last night!
My goal was to get at least nine hours of sleep last night and I am happy to report that I got 10! Of course I woke up at 5:30 but was able to go back to sleep until 9. It was amazing and so needed. I felt a million times better when I woke up this morning – not sore for the first time all week, rested and energized.
I made a great bowl of oatmeal while I lounged with coffee and my Google Reader.
Here’s what we have here…1/3 cup oats, 2 tablespoons Bob’s Red Mill 10-Grain Hot Cereal, pinch salt, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup skim milk, chia seeds, cinnamon, dried cranberries and fresh North Carolina blueberries. Topped off with Crofter’s and almond butter. I stir the blueberries in at the very end so that they don’t burst in the oats.
We spent most of the day working on our house (cleaning, organizing, hanging, etc). I took a break for a hot class at Y2. My practice was feeling a little off today but I still enjoyed the class and left happy I went. It’s funny, sometimes I can be really excited about practicing but get to my mat and it’s not there. I try to have a good attitude about it and just go easy on myself. Your body is so very different day to day.
The second I got home from yoga Brandon announced that we were going to Ikea. I quickly showered and we hit the road for our FIRST Ikea experience. I snacked on an apple with a little peanut butter in the car since I skipped lunch because it was too close to yoga time.
It was pretty crazy. We did end up dropping some cash and were craving cinnamon rolls when we left (but resisted!). We went home with two new area rugs, bedside lamps, a trashcan for the bathroom, a mirror and some frames. I am happy that Brandon was there with me because I would have been very overwhelmed without a partner in crime. I just can’t get over the enormity of that store. Wow!
Dinner tonight was an old favorite.
Seared Tuna with Wasabi Aioli – we love this dinner. It’s definitely in the running for top 10 meals we make most often. If you’re a tuna fan you must try! Sushi rice and frozen Asian veggie medley on the side.
I just ate a giant bowl of ice cream and am going to start getting ready for bed. Brandon is watching True Blood and I am majorly grossed out/disturbed. I need to vacate the living room ASAP. I HATE this show!
Teaching BodyPump first thing tomorrow morning. Time to tackle a new week!
Ooh, I’m jealous of your IKEA adventure…my mom and I went for the first time this spring…we were totally overwhelmed. So overwhelmed that I only bought a trashcan, lol. Couldn’t make any decisions on anything else but I felt like I couldn’t leave completely empty-handed. I *wish* I could get Joe there. He is generally *not* a good shopping sport but I think he might find IKEA kinda cool. Oh well, something to shoot for for our next Charlotte visit. :0)
Kat – if Brandon hadn’t been with me I TOTALLY would have been the same way with being so overwhelmed I wouldn’t buy anything. I do not do well with too many choices! Lure Joe into IKEA with the promise of the Swedish Meatballs…apparently the men love them! ๐
That sounds like the perfect day ๐ SO happy that you had a positive Owen’s Bagels experience – after all my raving and ranting it would have been awful for it not to live up to expectations. PS, I’m obsessed with IKEA, I could get lost in there for hours and hours!
I know – sometimes I’m hesitant to recommend places to people because I’m scared they won’t like them as much as me!!!
I have that same experience with yoga and have learned it is a metaphor for life….it is certainly helping me learn to be easier on myself….at least somedays ๐
