Happy weekend!
1. I am glad y’all are on board with weekly fitness and yoga posts. I will kick it off on Monday! Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions. I’m going to have quite an editorial calendar of topics.
2. If you are participating in the 26 Random Acts project, don’t forget that your random acts are due to me by January 21.
3. So much to catch you up on. Hold on, this is going to be a random one!
46 members in my BodyPump class at the Y on Thursday night. The energy was ridiculous. I LOVE TEACHING GROUP EXERCISE! Side note, I’m getting cycle certified in a couple weeks. More on that later! 🙂
I had a dinner date at Soul Gastrolounge after class. I got really excited about actually getting dressed in fun clothes and going out (while it’s pretty sweet to live your life in lululemon, it’s also nice to feel like a normally dressed member of society at times).
Soul has been a hot spot in Charlotte but somehow I’ve never made it there. I was excited to see what all the hype was about. It’s a tapas restaurant located in a tredy/hipster area of town and it’s always slammed with a long wait. Even after a 30 minute wait, the best we could get was a seat on the covered balcony. It was really dark so my photos were pretty subpar but I’ll show ya anyway. From left to right…pork belly tacos, garlic shrimp skewers, cheese-stuffed piquillo peppers on bruschetta, ahi tuna tacos. We also got a sushi roll but I didn’t photograph it and it was very average. So, here’s my takeaway. It was good, not outstanding. I really enjoyed the stuffed pepper but everything else was good but not great. I would like to visit again and actually sit inside. I liked the cozy atmosphere and there were a lot of other things on the menu I wanted to try. As far as tapas in Charlotte, my favorite remains Good Food On Montford.
Sullie went to the groomer for a bath and a trim. She was shaking and glued to my side when I left her…and happy as she could be with a St. Bernard and Goldendoodle when I picked her up. She was in desperate need of a little haircut. Love her little marshmallow feet.
Still CrossFitting. This morning’s workout was right up my alley. I love running and bodyweight WODs. I love that CrossFit forces you to think about strategy with your workouts. I knew that I wanted to keep a consistant pace during this WOD and do the squats, pushups and lunges unbroken. So I used the run as active recovery and didn’t try to get overly aggressive with the pace. I finished this in just over 27 minutes and was able to do all six rounds unbroken, stopping for one quick water break after round 3.
I went to a baby shower in Fort Mill, South Carolina today (separate post coming) and remembered that a Publix had just opened in the area. After the shower I went and did my shopping for the week. I can’t remember the last time I did my grocery shopping in a dress and heels versus sweaty post-workout. I felt pretty domestic. 😉 Remember my Ode To Publix?
I got a ridiculous amount of food for about $75. I am set for the week.
Told you this one would be all over the place! Now I’m off to plan for tomorrow’s yoga classes.
love your outfit!! so pretty & sweet sullie is the cutest little thing.
I am heading out tonight and need to remove the Lululemon pants and dress up a little bit; enjoy good food; drink some wine; and let loose! I love dressing up and it now seems like a treat when I do, since it seems to only be like once a week. HA! Burger and fries are calling my name…Enjoy the weekend!
Sullie is just adorable! 🙂
All over the place, but a great quick recap for readers like me! Thanks 🙂 I am anxious to try Loredo as well. Maybe I’ll throw it into my mix this week.
which Y do you teach at? I just moved to south charlotte and am trying to figure out what gym to join…The Harris YMCA is close by!
I love when you post pictures of Sullie!
I love Publix!! Coming to Charlotte in 2014 🙂
Sullie is so adorable. I have a 6 month old golden retriever, so I’m in love with everything you post about Sullie!
That BodyPump class looks awesome. I haven’t seen a ton of it in Ohio, but I’m sure it’s around. I just started working at a YMCA, so I’m thinking of asking if we can bring this class to our Y (if I or someone gets certified obviously).
Hi Jen 🙂 I am so glad you’re getting certified to teach cycle – it is hands down my FAVORITE workout now that I can’t really run too far anymore (knees). You’ll love it and I know you’ll be an awesome teacher. It’s all about the music and the energy!
I feel the exact opposite of you regarding everyday attire – I get so sick of wearing heels, makeup, dress pants, etc every day and just want to wear lulu all weekend long! LOL – the grass is always greener 🙂
Hope you are well – long time no comment but I still read all the time! xoxo
Where do you get Sullie groomed? I just rescued my dog a couple months ago and she is due for a good grooming! I live iin dilworth. She is such a scardy cat, I don’t know where to take her?!?
WOW you scored for 75 bucks! I wish we had publix because 75 dollars pretty much goes nowhere in Wegmans!
Hmm, intrigued by the upcoming cycle certification given that you’ve mentioned not loving it. Have you found the passion??! 😉 I only ask as a LOVER of all things Spin and a certified instructor myself. I haven’t been teaching here in Dallas and I miss it. Which certification are you doing?
Give Soul Gastrolounge another try. I agree about their sushi, not all that, but I have really enjoyed some other tapas on their menu. That said, I do agree with you about Good Food on Montford.
Good for you on the cycle certification. I’m not teaching right now but am Madd Dog certified. Are you doing their certification? I know they are having one in March.
Jen, there’s an article on the Ashville food scene in the latest Food and Wine, check it out!
Love your gray top in the pic…mind sharing where you got it?
I’ve recently rediscovered my love for spin after not attending a single class in a year!
I have a confession. I know that people always gush about Publix, but I don’t quite get why it’s so great. Maybe the ones in Atlanta (or near me in Atlanta) are bad?
Your outfit is very cute! The Bodypump class looks similar to a class I take, called Bodyworks. Looks so fun!!
This post is really making me miss Publix! I LOVED that grocery store when I lived in FL, but now that I’m back up in the midwest there aren’t any, boo! Slim pickings around here, which is a bummer for a foodie.
Have a great Sunday!! 🙂
I love your outfit and know what you mean that it feels great to dress in normal people clothes sometimes! I don’t work in fitness but I find myself wearing yoga pants 90% of the time so I love dressing up! Can’t wait for your weekly fitness and yoga posts 🙂
quick question on the 26 random acts!
I may have missed where the acts are listed! If you could let me know, that would be great!! 🙂
you make up your own! team assignments in the link above!
I hear you on the real clothes front! I teach fitness and I work at lululemon–there’s not much reason in my world for pants that aren’t stretchy. I do like how impressed my friends get when they see me dressed! Your outfit is great. 🙂
No need to toss the wunder unders out! Just dress em up! 🙂 They fit nicer than so many legging choices! 🙂
