My Saturday stared out busy and productive but by noon I turned into a blob and hung around the house for the rest of the day. My alarm went off at the very early hour of 5:15 a.m. so that I could make it over to YogaFlex to for the David Keil ashtanga practice. Ashtanga used to be one of my favorite morning activities (I practiced 2-3 times a week at 6:30 a.m.) but my practice has fallen off and I have been attending more traditional power classes recently. This morning’s practice reminded me how amazing it is to start my day with such a meditative practice. Can’t wait to do it again tomorrow!
I don’t like to eat before I practice ashtanga (because of all the intense binding) so I had this Dahlicious Lassi probiotic yogurt drink to hold me over. They sent me these drinks to sample and at just 110 calories, they are the perfect thing for for a snack or for pre-early morning yoga. I have only tried the mango flavor so far but I really like it.
I was craving a little more substance post-practice so I grabbed a honey whole wheat bagel with veggie cream cheese on my way to teach yoga at the Y. I don’t usually teach on Saturdays but I always love to help out when needed!
The Y where I was teaching is really close to Atherton Mill Market so I decided to swing by and check out the winter offerings. I frequent Atherton Mill Market during the more traditional farmer’s market months but usually don’t visit during the winter. I had so much fun wandering around today. I picked up some organic carrots, kale, farm eggs, goat gouda and garlic gnocchi. I sample the goat gouda while I was there and it was so good!
Lunch featured last night’s leftovers. Lentils with butternut squash, spinach and goat cheese and I added some avocado. I firmly believe that avocado goes with everything. I am slightly addicted to it. Blue corn chips and grapes on the side.
The rest of my afternoon was pretty worthless. Cleaned, painted my nails, watched a movie, contemplated running but decided relaxation was a better option. Dinner tonight was leftover green curry with tofu and eggplant over brown rice.
Dessert. I baked a whole hummingbird cake last night. Help!
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
The hummingbird cake looks amazing! Please eat an extra slice for me ๐ yum!
I love the farmer’s market! We have them on sundays here in LA. Its always so relaxing and fun!
If you ever travel to LA I would love for you to teach me yoga…I love your peaceful attitude toward about life.
Hope your weekend is wonderful! ๐
I’ll gladly help with that cake ๐
Oh we love the Atherton Market! Haven’t been there in ages though. I just wish they were open more often. So glad you mentioned them – I’ve got ’em on my radar for next week!
Great farmers market finds! I wish I lived near one. I also believe that avocado goes with everything!
I have never had a hummingbird cake (I live in the midwest and I feel like they’re traditionally more of a southern thing?) Anyway — it is something I KNOW I would like! It looks delicious — as if it were out of a magazine ๐
What a perfect way to start your Saturday. I love getting a great workout in first thing. Then I don’t feel so bad about beig lazy the rest of the day! And ohmiword I think hummingbird cake is my weakness. I am in loooove but it is so decadent and rich..what a fun treat!
I made it to the Davidson farmers market this weekend and loved it! I prefer that kind of shopping over clothes any day!
I haven’t been to the Atherton Mills Farmers Market in a while! I need to get up there. Also, I’m willing to help eat your cake if you need someone to. Just sayin.
That Hummingbird cake looks incredible! (As does your recent haircut btw)
Thank you so much!
I love that you randomly baked an entire cake. Most people stick with cookies for their “spur of the moment” baking moods..but you took the cake! ๐
i usually do cookies or brownies/blondies but i was really in the mood for cake…so cake it was! ๐
I have to say, you inspired me to give yoga another try. I used to try and go 2-3 times a month but never loved it. I am an avid runner and don’t stretch nearly enough. I have been going to yoga friday night for a little over a month and I am starting to enjoy myself. My muscles thank me too ๐ So, thank YOU for the inspiration to give it another shot !
i am so happy to hear this! what a nice friday evening ritual. sounds like a great way to wind down from the week. i hope it’s having some positive effects on your running!
