I am sitting here with a nap skipper. Finn was not having it with his morning nap so he’s relaxing in his Rock n’ Play, listening to nursery rhymes on Spotify and grinning at me instead. Fun fact: his current favorite jams are The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Baby Shark and You Are My Sunshine. ๐ I can’t even be frustrated with him. He cracks me up.
Remember how I shared that I chatted with Gina from The Fitnessista yesterday for her new podcast, Healthy In Real Life? Well, the episode is live. We talked about balancing strength training and power yoga, intuitive eating, my new running program, “doing it all” and asking for help as a new mom and more. I’d love for you to give it a listen!
Okay,ย I had not been to the grocery store in two weeks so a restock was in order yesterday. I snapped some photos of what I bought at Whole Foods to share with you for today’s post.
Let’s start with the healthier stuff first! Produce picks included…
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Pears
- Yukon gold potatoes
- Delicata squash
- Kabocha squash
- Honeycrisp + pink lady apples
- Asparagus
- Avocados
- Bananas
- Cranberries
- Arugula
- Frozen sockeye salmon
- Salted butter
- Egg nog
- Chicken thighs
- Deli turkey
- Eggs
- Hummus
- Vitamin D
- Pepper jack slices
I got the vitamin D because mine was borderline low in some recent blood work I had done.
And finally…
- Salt and vinegar kettle chips
- Pita chips
- Salted caramel kettle corn (impulse purchase)
- Kombucha
- Two different kinds of whole bean coffee
- Multi-seed bread
This should easily get me through this week and the weekend along with what I already have in my pantry/freezer. The only thing I didn’t get that I wish I would have was a head of red cabbage to make my braised red cabbage recipe. Boo!
I might make some kind of a soup with the cauliflower! This soup from Food52 looks super simple and delicious. Or maybe this one from Cookie and Kate. Let me know if you have a favorite cauliflower soup recipe to share!
In case you were wondering Finn is now sitting in my lap as I type this post and chewing on his Sophie la Girafe teether. Haha. I couldn’t resist sharing this photo to wrap up the post. Finn was in this get up when I picked him up from spending time with his dad yesterday. It’s a gnome Halloween costume from Carter’s but I guess it looks holiday-ish? Anyway…it kept him warm! ๐
Related, he LOVED holding that bag of pita chips and shaking it while I was shopping. Kept him entertained for a good 15 minutes.
Have a happy Wednesday friends. We have Finn’s six-month well-child visit today so wish us luck. Shots are in order and those are never fun.
The Cookie and Kate cauliflower soup is really good!!!
I agree! I made it last week and ate it all myself, much too quickly ๐ Making again this week!
Thanks for letting me know that the soup is a good one!
I love the Two Peas and their pod cauliflower soup with cheddar! Easy and good!
Yum! Thanks for the recommendation!
The Oh She Glows curried cauliflower and lentil soup is AMAZING.
This sounds so up my alley! Thank you!
I love all the pictures of Finn you share, and that gnome outfit is too cute!
Cookie and Kate is one of my favorites for recipes, but I haven’t made that cauliflower soup. Let us know what you end up doing and how it turns out ๐
Thank you! He’s a cutie! And I’ll report back, for sure.
I listened to the podcast this morning. It was great!! So informative and fun to listen to!! Well done.
Ahhh thanks so much for listening and reporting back! ๐
Bags are a hit with my little guy too! We ended up finding a toy that crinkles like a plastic bag and he loves it!
We have one of those crinkly toys!
Just downloaded the podcast for tomorrow morningโs run. Thanks for the link!
Thanks for checking it out! ๐
Would love to know how if and how you are implementing sleep training with Finn!!!
Talked with the pediatrician about it yesterday but not sure it’s something I’m ready to dive into quite yet. It’s such a personal choice of how/when to do it…I’ve got a lot to think about!
Thereโs a GREAT group on Facebook called โRespectful Sleep Training.โ They have SO much info on every kind of way to sleep train. The group is meant for you to choose the method for whatโs best for your family and be able to find support from others and advice. I havenโt ever seen any bashing or harsh words! Super helpful info on dropping naps, all the methods of training and anything in between!
I am in that group! It’s a great resource for when I decide to go for it.
So funny you mention Cookie & Kate’s cauliflower soup! I just made the similar version from her Love Real Food cookbook earlier this week and loved it! Creamy, filling and the perfect bowl of soup for chilly winter nights. Enjoy it!
Great to hear, thank you!
