Well, we’re supposed to be en route to Georgia right now but after a long week and a busy day at work we decided to leave early tomorrow morning instead. We were at the point where we wouldn’t arrive at my grandmother’s until 11 p.m. and it just wasn’t worth it to leave so late. Instead we’re going to try to be on the road early tomorrow and get there before lunch.
Rewind.
I started the morning with a hot vinyasa yoga class at Y2 (Friday tradition). No other word for it except for amazing. And for whatever reason I was totally able to let go and enjoy savasana today. I usually struggle to quiet my racing mind! I showered and got ready for work at the studio (necessary with the location of my new job) and headed to work. I enjoyed a bowl of overnight oats at my desk. There is no breakfast as good as cold and creamy overnight oats after a hot yoga practice!
Lunch today was a summer favorite.
Homegrown tomato sandwich!!! Seriously, my very favorite lunch of the summer. I look forward to it all year. Tomatoes + Duke’s Mayo + S&P = Perfection! Let’s give the tomatoes a little more love here.
Bursting with homegrown tomato flavor. We got these from my brother in law’s organic garden. I’m looking forward to many, many more of these throughout the summer.
I headed back to work to wrap up my first full week. I am LOVING my new job. So happy! 😀
On my way home from work I talked with my grandmother and decided to leave in the morning. I came home to find a fun surprise at the front door.
A few weeks ago I received an email asking if I’d be willing to test a coffee maker. We are HUGE coffee drinkers so of course I was all for it.
We were so excited to open our packages and find Starbucks Whole Bean Pikes Place Coffee and a Cuisinart Grind and Brew. I was thrilled that we received a Cuisinart because I have loved and used their coffee makers for year. Can’t wait to try it out! I’m going to send my review in next week and then it will appear in an upcoming magazine issue. Fun!
My first order of business when I arrived home was sharing a beer with Brandon. He opened this Stone Imperial Russian Stout.
Brandon’s first comment was, “this is motor oil.” But in this case it was positive. It was very heavy and kind of like a triple thick Guiness. It definitely had a coffee/chocolate flavor to it. I had half a glass.
At 10.5 percent alcohol this packed a punch.
After happy hour we headed to Lebowski’s for dinner. Lebowski’s is my favorite place in Charlotte for a very casual upper-end bar food dinner. We had a birthday gift certificate to use so it was perfect! I stuck with my favorite menu item.
The veggie panini. SO GOOD. Lots of fresh veggies (mushrooms, peppers, onions, zucchini, baby spinach) with Bruschetta topping. I also asked for a little bit of the spinach-artichoke spread. Heaven in a veggie sandwich! 😉
Also, I can usually resist fries but Lebowski’s is one of the few places where fries are a must. They have these amazing garlic herb fries. Life changing, I tell you. I ate half of them!!!
We are now watching Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations in the Caribbean. It’s making me want to go on vacation!!! We are heading to be shortly so we can be up bright and early to hit the road.
Happy weekend!
Glad to hear you are loving your new job! That’s so important! And a free coffee maker? Score! Enjoy your weekend with grandma!
Let us know what you think of that coffeemaker!! I’ve been wanting this model for a while now but have never been bold enough to give up my beloved french press 🙂
