Hi there. It’s been a solidly good week over here. I got to spend a lot of quality time with Finn, taught some yoga, hung out with my best girlfriends and was fairly productive with work.
I have a week’s worth of photos to share of what it all looked like.
A trip to the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market. Finn slept until 9a last Saturday morning so we didn’t make it to the market until a little after 10:30. I was so pleased to find that there was still a wonderful selection. Here is the haul that I’ve been making my way through all week…
- Fennel, tomatoes, squash, eggplant and chard from Bluebird Farm
- Cucumbers from A Way of Life Farm
- Mac’s Pride peaches
- Ravioli, pesto and taralli from Mano Bella
- Eggs from Tony Pasour and Girls Farm – I’ve never bought anything from these guys but Charlie at Windy Hill recommended them for eggs when he was sold out. The eggs are great!
Everything was so fresh and delicious. I’ll show you how I enjoyed it all in my next recent eats post.
Donut date at O.M.G. Donuts with Finn. Definitely our favorite nearby spot for donuts!
My fiddle leaf fig has a new leaf! It has gown so quickly and I have smiled every time I look at my plant this week.
My first movie date with Finn! It was rainy and gross out last Sunday so after a trip to the trampoline park to get all of his wiggles out, we went to the theatre to see the new Minions movie. We shared a big bag of popcorn and Finn opted to sit in the same recliner seat as me for 90 minutes of snuggles and entertainment.
He’s been to the movies quite a few times with his nanny and his dad but this was our first time going together. I’m not much of a go to the movies person but I really enjoyed this and can’t wait to do it again soon!
Monday miles. My first five miler since the whole sickness thing and it felt good. It was so crazy humid and I looked like I’d jumped in a swimming pool after the run.
Finn’s first Chuck E Cheese experience. We got invited to meet a friend for a playdate and Finn had a blast. It took him no time at all to figure out how to use his card to start the games. I definitely recommend doing an unlimited pass for a certain amount of time rather than buying credits for little kids. We did 30 credits (which was the same price as 60 minutes unlimited) and Finn flew through his credits in 30-40 minutes. He was just so excited that he kept going from one game to another at warp speed and did a lot of games that were super short.
I subluxated a rib this week and that was no fun at all. I know that I’ve done this when I start feeling a stabbing pain behind my shoulder blade. I am 99% sure that I did it demoing something in my yoga class Monday morning when I wasn’t warm. It felt tight throughout the day on Monday and by the time I woke up Tuesday it hurt to inhale and I had to take ibuprofen to get up and moving. Luckily, I was able to get in to see my friends at Greenapple Sports and Wellness. and Dr. Goodman got me squared away with an adjustment and some stim. It was really sore the rest of Tuesday from inflammation but felt tons better by Wednesday and I was back to normal by Thursday.
The medical world tends to be split on whether rib subluxations or “having a rib head out” is real or possible. I know orthopedists and PTs who very much believe it’s a thing but many think it’s a chiropractic hoax. All I know is that this happens to me from time to time and the ONLY thing that gives me significant relief is an adjustment. That said, I am on the hyper mobility spectrum and there is some indication that those with hyper mobility syndromes are more likely to experience injuries like this. This is a helpful read!
We could go way down the rabbit hole here but I think at the end of the day that if you have pain and something as simple as an adjustment relieves your pain…why not!?
On a lighter note, Finn is in a five-week mother’s morning out program at a local church and he’s having a blast. He calls it his “camp out school.”
Dinner out with my girlfriends at Bulla. We’ve been doing these dinners for over 10 years now and they are just the best ever. It’s like a sacred circle where we can bring everything to the table. I’m so grateful for a safe place to share, laugh, cry and feel supported and connected. Side note, I am obsessed with this Michael Stars one shoulder tank. It’s currently on sale on their website and I am going to order it in a few more colors. I’ve been reaching for it constantly this summer!
Sent this photo to my parents and my dad replied back, “Peanut Butter Runner 2 in the making.”
Last big share! We took the dogs for their annual wellness visit this week. I recently switched their grooming and care to Independence Veterinary Clinic and this was our first vet appointment. We saw Dr. Michelle and the whole experience was great. We were brought right into a room when we arrived and didn’t have to wait in a common area. The nurses came in immediately and got to work with Benji and Zoey. Dr. Michelle came in shortly after and examined one of the dogs while the other was out getting blood draws. Everyone was super friendly and sweet to the pups. They REALLY went out of their way to make Benji feel comfortable (he gets nervous around new people and in new places/situations).
Dr. Michelle listened to my concerns and answered my questions. Benji got a clean bill of health and we spent some time talking about Zoey. I’ve mentioned this before but I’ve noticed her a little slower to get up lately and she doesn’t want to come up the stairs as much. She does fine on walks but I want to keep her moving well and pain-free for as long as possible.
The first order of business is to try and get her to lose 5-7 pounds. We’re checking her thyroid and I’ll be cutting back her food to one cup, twice a day. Second, Dr. Michelle wants me to try Adequan with her. It’s an injectable drug for dogs and horses that helps alleviate lameness, pain and lowered range of motion caused by arthritis. She told me that she gives it to her older lab and it really seems to help. She’ll start on a loading dose for six weeks and then we’ll taper to where she only gets one injection per month. They taught me how to do the injections in the clinic using sterile water.
I’d love to hear if any of you have tried Adequan. I like that it’s not a heavy-duty pain med, NSAID or steroid, and generally safe with minimal side effects.
The dogs were worn out from all of the excitement of the vet. They passed out when we got home and Finn and I got busy in the kitchen tackling a baking project.
We made this fresh peach bundt cake. It was a sweet end to the week. Note, I did not end up adding the glaze.
Finn left a few hours ago to spend the weekend with his dad. After I wrap up my work for the day, I’m going to hit the gym. I haven’t lifted in a week due to my rib thing earlier this week so I’m looking forward to getting a good strength workout in.
I hope you all enjoy the weekend.
QUESTIONS
What summer produce are you loving the most right now? It’s always tomatoes for me.
Any thoughts on/experiences with Adequan?
Do your kiddos like going to the movies?
Have you baked anything delicious lately? If so, recipe link please!
Glad you have a great week.
I highly recommend Yossi Arefi’s baking book, Snacking Cakes. Recipes only use one bowl and every recipe I’ve tried is delicious.

Love the post!
Question, do you have a strapless bra that you like to wear with the one-shoulder top? I can’t seem to find one that works for me :/.
Our golden, who just turned 9, has been on Adequan for about a year now. I think it has been a huge help. I haven’t noticed any side effects and he barely notices the injunction (more focused on the treats he knows he will get after!). We also have him taking a Dasuquin soft chew daily which he just views as another treat. Hope it helps Zoey!
We used adequan with our pup and it seemed to help soooo much! We always knew he was getting close to needing his next dose because he’d start slowing down quite a bit. I genuinely believe it gave him a higher quality of life in his final years. ❤️
I’ve been giving my 11 year-old husky mix Adequan for about 6 months now after she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. I’ve seen no signs of discomfort since she’s gotten her first couple doses, and though she looks at me like I should absolutely not be the person to poke her each month, a PB mat for her to lick during the injection has helped a lot! She’s also on a low-dose daily NSAID (18 mg Deracoxib) per the vet’s suggestion – she says that most dogs are pretty stoic with their pain/discomfort, and that waiting till I saw signs of pain to give an NSAID would likely mean my pup was in pain for awhile beforehand.
If you decide to start Adequan, look for it on Chewy.com – it’s about half the price as it is at my vet’s office!
