I can’t believe another Friday is already here. How time flies! We arrived home from Florida on Monday evening and I jumped right into a full workweek with 15 client training sessions and four yoga classes and one yoga private. It was very nice to have six full days off from training and teaching but it was even better to come back to a job that I love to do.
Here’s a look at the back half of our Florida trip and our week back in Charlotte!
Finn helped me get Mema’s condo decorated for Christmas. He got a big kick out of the Christmas tree being the same size as him. It’s always really sweet to go through all of my grandmother’s ornaments and decorations. A walk down memory lane! Some of them are in my house now and I very much treasure that.
Our last full day in Florida was a rainy one so we went to see the new Disney movie Wish. Personally, I thought the movie was fabulous although it’s received some mixed reviews. It reminded me of the Disney movies I loved to watch and play the soundtracks of over and over as a kid (Aladdin, Beauty and the Best, Lion King, etc). I enjoyed the story, music and the message. The movie was made to honor the 100th anniversary of Disney so the theme is “when you wish upon a star” and the movie has tons of Easter eggs referencing past Disney films. It was fun and Finn stayed engaged the whole time. I can’t wait until it’s streaming so I can watch it again! 🙂
And if you’re wondering about the photo I shared…Finn is in his stuffy era and these Lanky Box guys traveled all the way to Florida and went everywhere with us.
The weather was really nice for most of our trip so we got a ton of outdoor time in. Finn made friends with some sweet kiddos and they swam in the gulf and the heated pool. He also wanted to join me for a run one day and rode alongside on his scooter. He made a whole game out of “getting tired” and making me run laps. Here he is sitting on top of faux rock and instructing me to run seven laps around this cul de sac and counting each one for me.
We had a ton of fun until I was running laps in another spot around the condo where the sidewalks are a little rough and ATE IT when I caught my foot on an uneven sidewalk and pitched forward catching myself on my hands. At first I thought I’d just busted my palm but as we were heading home to get it cleaned up, I realized my other wrist hurt more than anything. I rested it that afternoon but decided a trip to urgent care was in order the next day. It hurt all night when I would move or roll over and in the morning my range of motion was much more limited. I was mostly worried that I’d fractured my scaphoid.
My dad took me to urgent care and I was relieved to learn that my wrist was just sprained. I got a supportive brace and the physician told me that my wrist should feel better in a couple of weeks. I’m a week in now and it feels…okay. Definitely better and making improvements but it’s going to take time until it’s 100%. I’m trying to be super cautious with it and let it heal because I know injuries are easiest to rehab in their acute phase. I don’t want to end up with six months of wrist pain because I didn’t let these ligaments heal correctly.
I did get right back on the horse and go for a run two days after I fell. It is very discombobulating to fall as an adult and I wanted to get that fear out of my mind. It’s been a long time since I fell like that. I had a really great run and I’m glad I got back out there.
Hi Beau. My parents’ golden. He’s been with us for about a year and a half now and a very sweet and chill boy.
Back at home I finished up Christmas decorating. I added a bedroom Christmas tree into the mix last year and it brings so much joy!
Very low-key but fun entryway and stair decorations. Finn loves the colored lights and I love making him happy!
Finn has discovered a love for hoodies. Smart boy – they’re kinda the best. He wore this to school on Thursday and walked talking about his “cool hoodie.” (How cute is my snuggle season doormat?)
This is the end! I have much more coming for y’all soon…
- Cabbage roll recipe
- Skincare stuff I’ve done recently and my current skincare routine
- What I bought at ALDI
- Recent eats
- AND MORE!
What I’m not sharing is gift guides. Y’all, I just can’t. I will always sprinkle affiliate links in here and there in ways that feel authentic but I’m just NOT a shopper and gift guides stress me out a little – both reading and creating.
That said, I did write a screen-free gift ideas post for little kids last year that is worth checking out and I wrote a post-holiday gift round up with some of my favorite gifts last year.
THE END!
QUESTIONS
Last movie you saw in the theater?
Favorite Disney movie of all-time?
Last running injury?
How many trees do you have in your house?
Thank you, truly, for not doing gift guides. I too am not a shopper and am a bit of a minimalist and I really appreciate someone sticking to their truth and not creating a list of things that aren’t really needed. As another note I love your mention of using colored lights because your son loves colored lights – that to me is such a stronger testament to the season than presents and buying things.
I agree- falling as an adult is traumatic!! Glad you weren’t hurt more seriously!
Totally agree about the gift guides! I also like sprinkling authentic mentions in here and there on my blog referencing things I love but full on gift guides just feel so overwhelming for me. I made some back in the day but haven’t in a long time. Not a big shopper and the older I get the more all the over consumerism just kind of makes me feel icky…
Also it’s so scary to fall as an adult!! I had a bad fall like a decade ago while running and still remember it. It really freaked me out! Glad you’re on the mend.
Another big THANK YOU for no gift guides! Materialism these days among a lot of bloggers is out of control, and really takes away from the true meaning of Christmas.
FYI (I’m a doctor) – x rays early into an injury are notoriously bad at picking up scaphoid fractures, so if it still hurts over the “anatomical snuffbox” you may want to get another x ray at this point. Hope it starts to feel better soon!
I usually don’t comment, but I wanted to thank you for not doing gift guides. I find them to be overkill and so draining.
Also, I have had so many injuries misdiagnosed at the Urgent Care. If you are not feeling better, I would suggest heading to a sports medicine doctor for a second look.
