The short week has really thrown me for a loop. On top of having one less day to get everything accomplished, we’ve also just had a lot going on and work has been really busy. As a result, I’ve felt a little off my game.
One of the things I’m stressing most about this week is not getting my running in. Last I updated you guys on Tuesday, I had just taught BodyPump and practiced ashtanga. Wednesday was supposed to be a tempo run and maybe a hot vinyasa yoga class but things took a bit of a turn for the worse at a doctor’s appointment. I had not been to the doctor for a check up in almost a year and a half so I had an appointment for a physical and bloodwork on Wednesday.
I haven’t had full bloodwork run in a very long time and I’m interested to see how everything is looking since I’ve stopped taking a multi-vitamin (in favor of getting my nutrients through food) and reduced my meat intake. While I was there my doctor also suggested that I go ahead and get my flu shot and a tetanus booster (because it includes whooping cough and apparently it has been making a comeback recently). I was really hesitant to get two shots and bloodwork and felt a little anxious about it. After my lab work I actually ended up feeling really unwell and had to be tended to by sweet nurses with ice packs and hugs. Ugh, it was so embarrassing.
I was feeling really rundown after my appointment and my arms were so ridiculously sore from getting shots in both shoulders. I decided (grudgingly) to take yesterday as an unplanned rest day. I thought I would get up this morning and run or go to ashtanga but I was still feeling pretty ick so I listened to my body and rested.
Lunch today was a new sandwich creation.
I sauteed eggplant slices in a little bit of olive oil with salt and pepper and made a sandwich with lite mayo, fresh basil, spinach, eggplant a dash of balsamic and havarti on whole wheat. I placed the sandwich under the broiler to melt the cheese. It was delicious! Baby carrots and Kashi crackers on the side.
After work tonight I had a wedding shower for a co-worker and stopped by my yoga studio’s first anniversary party. I also really wanted to get a quick run in. I abstained from cocktails during happy hour and hit the road with Sullie when I got home. We knocked out an easy three miles in the dark.
I rummaged around in the kitchen and came up with this delicious dinner creation (weekly menu planning will be back next week – I swear!).
I sauteed diced onions in a little olive oil and then added a 1/2 cup quinoa, a cup of water and salt. I stirred in chickpeas and covered and let it cook on low heat for about 15 minutes. At the end I added baby spinach to the pot as well as some leftover eggplant from lunch. I topped my creation with half of a diced avocado and a dollop of plain Greek yogurt. It was actually really good…I’m not lying!
Can’t believe tomorrow is already Friday! I will be announcing the winners of the music giveaway tomorrow so stay tuned.
Am I the only baby at the doctor’s office? Does anyone else get queasy when you’re getting a lot of needle sticks?
So sorry you’re feeling so bad! Hopefully a little weekend football will get you on the mend. ๐ As far as the doctor goes, I’m not bothered by needles at all but I have passed out on a variety of occasions (after telling the nurse that I never pass out) – having a lot of blood drawn and penicillin shots will both do it. I think if your body is already feeling ick, those kinds of tests seem to be harder on you. Get well soon!
Ick I hate getting shots/blood drawn. My last doctor appointment found me riding in a wheelchair, drinking a Sprite and eventually laying on the floor in the middle of the hallway – embarrassing to say the least! I thought I was over my needle fears after having my daughter last year, but no such luck.
I am not very good with shots either! You were a champ though ๐ It is hard to believe this week is already over, to me it felt like it never really began! LOL
Hope you have a great week!! I am still not in Charlotte full time yet, but hopefully soon!
