It’s amazing how much life can change in one year. Recently I have been thinking about our life in Birmingham and in disbelief that it’s been a year since law school graduation and our move to Charlotte. I’ve been working on this post for the last couple days to give you a glimpse of then and now.
THIS TIME LAST YEAR
Brandon graduated from law school.
We said tearful goodbyes to our best law school friends.
I left Luckie an emotional wreck after three years filled with learning and hard work with an incredible team.
We packed up our house in Birmingham, loaded a truck and moved to Charlotte.
And I started a temporary job with the American Cancer Society as a recruiter for their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
OVER THE PAST YEAR
I helped recruit over 5,000 walkers and raise $265,000 for the fight against breast cancer with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Brandon passed the North Carolina Bar Exam and began practicing law.
I said another goodbye to co-workers at the American Cancer Society when my temporary job came to an end.
And then very luckily found a full-time marketing job in a tough job market.
Began practicing yoga as a way to prevent injuries while training for a marathon and in the process fell in love with yoga and developed a personal practice.
We became godparent’s to our sweet niece, Scarlett.
After three months of training for the Thunder Road Marathon, had to drop down to the half marathon due to injury but ended up setting a new half-marathon PR of 1:57.
Was hired by the YMCA to teach BodyPump!
Made 68 recipes from Gourmet magazine for the 68 Days of Gourmet project on my food blog.
Launched Peanut Butter Runner!!!
Purchased our first home!
Celebrated our second wedding anniversary.
It’s been a big year for us with lots of life changes but I think we’ve ended up in a good place on the other side. Adjusting to life in Charlotte was not as easy as we anticipated but things have come together and we do feel like this is home. I think the biggest struggle has been missing our law school friends/life in Birmingham but everyone went different ways after graduation so that chapter of our life is over. We are just so lucky to have met those amazing people who will be lifelong friends – no matter where we all live.
And that’s the journey we’ve been on over the last year. There have been many life changes but the overwhelming majority are very positive and I feel so lucky to have Brandon with me through it all!
Jen, what a sweet post! I know you have big things ahead of you!
Glad I could get to know you in an easy year recap 🙂
See you at yoga soon!
you guys are precious!
What an amazing year! I miss you and the fun dinners, football games, and everything in between.
Is that graduation picture from Queens? That’s where I went to school 🙂 Love your blog, by the way!
Hi Jaclyn – it was actually at Samford University in Birmingham! Thank you for the nice comment about my blog and the Twitter follow!!! 🙂
Oh really! Haha well it is so pretty! Looks just like the courtyard at Queens in Charlotte 🙂
