It’s Wednesday, it’s raining and I’m kind of grumpy. Despite multiple cups of coffee, crawling back into bed seems like a much better option than braving the day. I need some sunshine in my life. And a tropical vacation. Definitely more coffee.
I just at this for breakfast. Peanut butter, honey, banana and cinnamon on whole wheat cinnamon raisin walnut bread.
Last night I met a friend for yoga and dinner. For the yoga portion of the evening, we attended “Kick Your Asana” at Charlotte Yoga. The practice featured multiple Rhianna songs while our instructor danced around the room asking us why we let fear control our lives. It was actually the perfect combination of serious and lighthearted and exactly what I needed.
My friend is Colombian and I was so excited when she suggested grabbing dinner after class at her favorite Colombian restaurant, Pio Pio.
Pio Pio is known for for their rotisserie chicken but they offer a large menu of Colombian and Peruvian cuisine. It is Columbian owned and it was so fun to hear my friend chatting away with all the staff in Spanish.
She insisted that I start with one of the juices so at her recommendation I tried the lulo juice. Lulo is a tropical fruit and popular in Colombia. It’s citrusy with a little bit of a lime flavor and was very refreshing post-yoga.
I ordered a combination that included the most amazing chicken soup, half of an avocado, rice and fried plantains. All of the meals also come with two really good sauces that you can put on the rice or plantains. This was one of the best meals that I have had out in a while and I will definitely be frequenting Pio Pio in the future. I am already craving this meal again!
And I leave you with this. While some of us have to be productive on a rainy day, this furry one will be lounging around the house hoping for a belly rub.
Have a good day!
I love Pio Pio! I usually get the Arroz con Pollo, which comes with cocktail weenies in it…totally random and I was quite skeptical at first but it was really good. I need to order that combination, the soup and plantains look amazing. Have a Wonderful Wednesday.
i think it sounds fun. i love random food combinations like that. hope you’re having a good week!
Haha! Sullie looks like such a loveable goofball! My golden is like that too, so it must be a golden thing =)
*Here’s to getting out of the Hump Day Grumps!
it is definitely a golden thing. they are the best! 🙂
That meal (and those drinks) look fantastic! I’ve said it a million times but I really really realllly wish Dothan would get a better variety of restaurant choices! And as always, Sullie is too cute!!!!!
i hear you! i grew up in a small town in georgia and we had no restaurant choices. love living in a bigger city and having so many options!
Pio Pio is fantastic. Small typo here…the cuisine (and your friend) is Colombian. I guess Columbians are those from SC.
Keep up the great blog…I always enjoy spinning off your recipes and restaurant recommendations.
thanks! i corrected…although i am going to columbia sc tonight! 🙂
That looks delicious, and makes me want to start experimenting in the kitchen more. I love plantains and avocado!
Waiting for the rain to come up this way, but it still hasn’t hit yet! I was thankful enough to get a wonderful dose of Vitamin D today as I walked with my client for her workout. I have an inkling it’s going to be gross tomorrow, so glad I was outdoors. Stay dry and happy Hump Day!
can this rain please so away?! excited for the juice suggestion for pio pio, that is one of my favorite restaurants!!
Does your Golden sleep in that position? Mine totally does! The second he gets comfortable, he rolls over onto his back. It’s really funny.
yes! she sleeps in so many random positions. too cute!
Hi! I’m a new reader and first time commenter 🙂
Your whole wheat cinnamon, raisin, and walnut bread is exactly what I’ve been looking for…what brand is it? Thanks!
hi tiffany – thanks so much for reading and for commenting! 🙂
the bread is so good but it’s from great harvest. i’m not sure if they have franchises in your area???
Your dog is seriously the cutest! Rainy days are the best just to hang in and lounge with the pups (especially when you wake up a little crank and needing more java)!
