Greetings from the Atlanta Airport!
I left these two chickens in Charlotte this morning (I don’t even think they noticed I was leaving) and Ubered to the airport for a flight to Florida to visit my parents. I woke up at 5:45 a.m. to a text message informing me my Charlotte to Atlanta flight was delayed and as I result I would miss my connection in Atlanta. I got online, rebooked myself on another flight a few hours later and then got two more hours of sleep. Not the worst way to start a vacation and thanks to Delta for making it easy on me. (They’ve been so good to me on this trip…they changed my reservation with no fee when I accidentally booked the wrong travel dates!)
I landed in Atlanta ready for lunch. I grew up flying in and out of Hartsfield Jackson (I’m from Georgia) and every time I fly through here I am always so impressed by how much the airport keeps changing. Today I got to my concourse (D for reference) and walked in to find Food Network Kitchen.
It’s a nice market/cafe with soups, sandwiches, salads, coffee drinks, etc. The offerings and menu are unique to Atlanta and everything has a local spin on it.
A restaurant that plays the food network instead of sports definitely wins me over! 🙂
You can either order in the market or sit down and order from an iPad.
This looked like the perfect spot for me to people watch and get some work done so I sat down and ordered.
The first item on the menu is “The Big Peach” – all natural ham, brie, georgia peaches, local honey and thyme on a locally baked ciabatta roll. Once I read this there was no turning back, especially since it was served warm. I am happy to report that it was as delicious as it sounds and I savored every bite! I will definitely be using this sandwich for inspiration this summer as peaches come into season.
I’ll leave you with one more Zoey picture. We were clearing and cleaning the back patio a few days ago and getting rid of some old chairs. Zoey has now decided this is her kingdom and when you throw her ball to her, she brings it back to this spot and stands on the chairs or the brick and drops the ball for you to throw. Love this stinker.
Time to fly to the beach! I’ll see ya from Florida soon!
What’s the nicest airport meal you’ve had?
That’s really cool that they have a Food Network cafe. Safe travels!
Btw, I love your big floral painting.
Thank you!
I am drooling over that sandwich!
My favorite thing to do at the airport is try to eat as local as I can. If I can try the local cuisine during a layover, I’m all over it!
Such a good idea!
Plane food is amazing! Except the prices of course..
Tortas Frontera at O’Hare in Chicago is hands down the best airport food in the world. Terminal 3….you gotta’ try it!
Hi Jen! My parents live in Southwest Florida and I was just there in Memorial Day. I also had travel difficulties on my way back to San Francisco. However, yes, airport food has come a long way in SOME airports, not in all. I usually bring my own as much as possible. 🙂
So true. I’ve been known to do the same!
LOVE the Atlanta airport. After travelling in and out of so many others around the country, I really think ATL has the best one! I need to check out Terminal D the next time I’m home. If you’re ever in Terminal B – check out Lotta Frutta. It’s not as good as the actual restaurant but it’s really good for airport food!
It’s definitely not a bad place to have a layover when I go to my parents!
I had a 3 hour delay in Atlanta a few weeks ago on my way up to NYC. I wish I was in that terminal! O’Hare has good options but they are opening a new grab-and-go salad/healthy entree place at my airport in Tampa. Thankfully they have GF options. Have an awesome trip!
Thank you!
Airport food seems really hit or total miss to me. I either can’t find ANYTHING or something really yummy.
This is so good to know! I am in Alabama and often have a ATL layover when I travel. I’ll have to remember this is in the airport.
First off Zoey is such a beautiful dog! Oh gosh, she makes me miss my golden retriever at home!
Since I`ve been travelling Europe for the past year I have had far too many airport meals let me tell you. It`s actually interesting to see how each country has their own restaurants and options. Paris is defiantly not the best for options that`s for sure!
