Happy Saturday. My morning has included sleeping in, two cups of coffee, the farmers market and brunch. A very solid start to a beautiful fall day.
The scone that you see here is a cheddar rosemary that I got at the farmers market and it’s safe to say that it was the star of the plate. It’s been too long since I’ve had a good scone. I need to bake some soon!
I got out for a hike this week and it was one of the highlights of my fall so far. There are few things that make me happier than fresh air, Vitamin D and being out in nature…especially with the bonus of perfect weather and fall colors.
It was my first time hiking at Pilot Mountain and I would definitely return. For my Charlotte-area readers, it’s only about an hour and forty minute drive and a great change from hiking Crowder’s Mountain. There are multiple good trail options including going from the bottom up for about a six mile round trip or parking at the summit and doing a three mile loop around the perimeter of the top (which still has PLENTY of up and downhill).
In other being active news, I am so grateful to be getting my running motivation back. I knew that I would once fall rolled around because it’s my favorite running season but I was in a serious slump over the summer with the combination of the heat and the move. It feels amazing to running regularly again. I’m probably running 2-3 times a week now for 3-5 miles.
Keeping in theme with all things fall, how cute is this art project that Finn did with his nanny? They collected leaves when they were at the playground and came home to make this. They have also painted pumpkins and Halloween cookies this week. 🙂
My mom sent Finn a couple of new fall outfits and he couldn’t wait to try this one on. He told everyone for the rest of the day that he had race cars on his shirt, new shoes and his name was Finn. Haha. 🙂 Outfit is Carters and shoes are Nike. Gosh, I can’t wait to see his sweet face tomorrow!
Our current clothing challenge is Finn’s Halloween costume. He picked out a PJ Masks costume (Catboy) and he loves it but he’s scared to try it on! Any tips? I definitely don’t want to force the matter. I’m trying to decide if I should order a backup costume or just be fine with the likelihood that he won’t wear one this year. Everything is also so up in the air about Halloween in our neighborhood this year. I do think people are planning to be out and about even if we don’t have our regular party/parade.
I hope you guys are having a great weekend. Enjoy what’s left of it!
QUESTIONS
Do you enjoy hiking? For my NC readers, what are your favorite day hikes?
What is your child dressing up as for Halloween? Are you doing any Halloween activities?
Am laughing, when my 13yr old son was just under 2 (like 23months) he loved pandas so I ordered him a super cute, fluffy panda Halloween costume imagining that he’d love it. Much to my surprise he screamed “put it back in the bag!” when he saw it & threw an on-the-floor temper tantrum when I tried to encourage it. So then drove him to the party store so he could pick out his own costume, & he picked a pumpkin, but once we got home with it he refused to wear it! He did think it was hilarious when I, dad & grandma put our arms into it & danced around, etc in encouragement, but wearing it was a solid no. He wore regular clothes on Halloween that year. Ah, good times, lol, good luck Jen!
My daughter had the same reaction to the costume we ordered her when she was 2! It was the cutest little cowgirl costume and she LOVED it but it was big and frilly (and IMO itchy!) She was intimidated by it. I ran out to Target the day before Halloween and she picked out the sweetest Doc McStuffins jammies (they even had a sewn on pretend stethoscope ) and we used those as her costume that year! Kohl’s has some cute character PJs too, we have a Bo Peep pair that could totally be used as a costume. She was super comfortable and really enjoyed that holiday and it’s such a fond memory for me! We’ve had a few more girls join our family since then and the cowgirl costume is an old favorite and put to good use in our dress up closet 😉 Costume or not can’t wait to see pics of Finn on Halloween night <3
My younger one is the same age as Finn and wanted to be Batgirl but only wants the outfit sans accessories. I so badly want her to wear all the things for a good picture but it’s a battle I think I’ll pass on. ha We also have backup dress up clothes so she can be a princess or something. Backup outfits can be cheap and he’ll want to wear it non stop AFTER Halloween. haha
When my son was about that age we got him a Mike Wazowski costume from Monsters Inc. He screamed the entire 30 seconds it was on his body! One of the funniest videos ever! 🙂
