Hi! It’s been a weird start to the week here in Charlotte. After an unseasonably mild winter, we were hit with some gross weather. After just talking with my co-workers at the gym last week about how we thought we’d escape winter weather this year, I opened my front door before going to bed last night and discovered this.
Looks like a nice light dusting of snow, right? Wrong. It was ice. Needless to say, the city was on an “ice day” today. Fun fact: Charlotte has had a snow event every year for the last 127 years.
So Zoey got her first experience with the white stuff. She was all about it and came in from the cold with turbo-charged puppy power.
We cancelled our 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. classes at Charlotte Yoga but I braved the roads to teach my 9:15. They weren’t so bad if you just drove slowly.
Unfortunately, the five-day forecast doesn’t look very promising.
But I honestly CANNOT complain after everything my friends in the Northeast have gone through. I will channel their strength when I get out of bed on Thursday morning to train clients at 5 a.m. I also have a warm weather getaway coming up this weekend so I seriously can’t complain. I’ll embrace 5 degrees with a smile on my face.
A few pics of life lately to share + a few articles I’ve loved.
I have been teaching so much yoga lately…3 classes Saturday, 1 Sunday, 2 Monday, 1 Tuesday and 5 more to go before the weekend. They’ve all been super special and wonderful.
Cupcakes.
And more cupcakes. I think if this blog wasn’t named “Peanut Butter Runner” it might be “Cupcakes and Coffee” instead. Ha. I received this special delivery of a soy latte and cupcakes this afternoon. It turned my day around.
I am doing my first week of Blue Apron and I love it! Stay tuned for a full post on my experience and what I’ve been cooking up.
I also recently started juicing and I’m going to have a review of the cold press juicer I’ve been using in the next couple of days.
A quick pup update…Zoey is growing so fast. Look how long she is! She’s all legs…and starting to get that pretty, wavy golden retriever hair down her back.
And these two are still in love.
A few things to read…
How to Train Your Monsters via the Momastery Blog.
“We’re only envious of those already doing what we were made to do. Envy is a GIANT, FLASHING ARROW pointing us towards our destiny.”
A Broken Heart is an Open Heart via Tiny Buddha
“Know this: A broken heart is an open heart.
It is in the breaking, when our hearts are peeled back on themselves, that our truths have passage to come in and out.
If we’re lucky, our hearts will break over and over again to reveal new ways of being, of thinking, and of loving.
Each break allows our hearts to heal bigger than the time before.
Yes, there is pain every time we’re cracked open. Immeasurable pain. And with each break, each sting of pain, our hearts are able to expand and strengthen our capacity to love more and more and more.”
My Experience with Yoga Teacher Training via Erica House
She did a three week immersion and it’s interesting to read about her experience.
Question If You Still Love What You Once Loved via Danielle LaPorte…who has been on FIRE with her #truthbombs lately by the way.
“We hold on to what got us somewhere. To that which made an impact, earned us money, or accolades. We hold on to furniture and dance moves, hairstyles, eyeliner colours, ways of greeting, recipes, tactics. Smooth moves. Prayers. Ways of doing things. Plans.”
Have you had any snow yet this year?
Read anything share-worthy lately?
I am up in Boston so I have seen more than my far share of snow! We are completely buried. The snow banks are ginormous. It’s pretty remarkable.
I can’t even imagine what y’all are dealing with. The pics have been mind blowing.
It was in the mid 70’s yesterday in Houston and then this morning it was 35 degrees when I went to my first client. It could be worse. No snow. No ice. No complaints. Any day is brighter with yummy cupcakes!
we had a day in the 70s last week and it was GLORIOUS! crazy how much the temps can swing this time of year.
I’m in Asheville this week… and um, this CA girl has never been in such weather. It’s scary out there, lol.
When I flew into Charlotte, I thought immediately of you!! It’s such a nice airport!!
I love Asheville! But what a cold time of year to visit. Stay warm and enjoy!
I recently discovered Momastery…love it! She’s such a gifted writer who speaks the absolute truth. 🙂
we are enjoying a snow day today! we’ve got a lot of ice right too.
I live in Boston so yes, we’ve gotten a bit of snow 😉
Those cupcakes look super yummy!! 🙂 It’s pretty snowy here in Denver, but I know the sun will shine over the next couple of days and melt it all away. Crazy how the weather goes from one extreme to the next here. AND Zoey is adorable! She is growing so fast!!!
yes, it is crazy. it was 70 degrees here a week ago. stay warm!
I’d love to visit a yoga class!
come on! welcome any time! 🙂
I’m in Chapel Hill, so not too far from you, and we got the same weather!
On Monday night, a lot of us went mattress sledding down a huge hill near my dorm! None of us had sleds, so people were using mattresses, laundry baskets, pizza boxes, cookie sheets, or whatever they could find to get down the hill. SO much fun!
that sounds like SO much fun! what a great memory to make.
I live in New York and we’ve had a lot, but of course not as much as Boston! Definitely lots of ice and MANY very cold days. Just eat more cupcakes! 🙂
always more cupcakes! 🙂
We just got hit with a weather bomb Sunday through Monday – 34 in snow, tropical storm force winds! The town is slowly digging people out and hopefully get to my neighborhood today! I should have used some time to read but instead I ended up baking up a storm – so nice to have a cosy, sweet smelling house while the weather roars outside.
michelle…that is INSANE! i think being stuck in the house is the PERFECT excuse to spend a day baking.
I have had enough snow and ice already this winter! We were lucky until about a month ago. Since then, it’s like every other day. Five inches yesterday became whatever to me, that’s how you know it’s enough!
ahhh! that is terrible! sending you warm thoughts of NO snow! it will be over soon.
Thank you for sharing my post! Now that I’ve taught my first yoga class (and not even ‘real’ since it was only to other yoga teachers!) I know how emotionally exhausting it can be. It was just like teaching my regular college classes. I can’t imagine teaching as many classes a week as you do!
you are so welcome! a big congrats to you. it’s a major accomplishment. let me know if you ever have any questions or need any support around yoga and teaching.
I’m in Asheville and my driveway is a solid 2-3 inches of ICE!!!! My dogs even having trouble getting outside. Their paws don’t even sink into what looks like snow.
I feel bad complaining b/c so many people are so much worse off than us, but ugh! I’m so over winter this year!!! 🙂
that’s crazy! zoey and sullie’s paws also didn’t sink down. they were like “ice skating” on top of it yesterday. i had to like ski down my front yard this morning to get to my car because my yard and driveway are still iced over!
hope the end is near!
Stay warm, Jen! Keep drinking lots of warm, yummy drink!
Your juice looks so yummy! I love my Omega vrt juicer : )
yes! constant stream of tea and coffee over here! 🙂
We thought we escaped winter as well but had a “snow storm” on Monday in DC and will be experiencing low temps as well. Love the reads that you added to this post. They got me thinking!
oh gosh, stay warm. glad you liked the links! 🙂
i LOVE these dogs. And Your passion for teaching. I teach about 6 classes a week and sometimes get exhausted by them even though I love them. Thank you for the beautiful quotes and I am so glad you are getting love from your pups and students. Xoxo
