I have been regularly shopping at ALDI for almost a year now and I remain amazed by the savings there are to be had by shopping there. Last weekend I went to Whole Foods for my weekly grocery shopping and my bill was $185. This week I went to ALDI and my bill was $85. I’ll admit that I did buy more meat at Whole Foods but overall…it’s night and day difference.
All that said, I 100% admit that I love Whole Foods for certain products and the overall shopping experience but ALDI is a welcome, budget-friendly addition to my regular rotation.
Here’s a look at what I bought at ALDI today for $85. Note that I was buying some items for an upcoming healthier Super Bowl snack post.
The produce…
- Sweet potatoes
- Pineapple
- Grape Tomatoes
- Strawberries -from Florida!
- Avocados – 0.59 each!
- Cucumber
- Mushrooms
- Arugula
- Spinach
- Organic bananas
Cheese and such…
- Shredded parmesan
- Plain greek yogurt – their big containers are like $3.79!
- Honey goat cheese
- Cream cheese
- Hummus
- Two containers of feta
- Guacamole
- Organic shredded white cheddar
Other good stuff…
- Crest toothpaste
- Sliced prosciutto
- Sliced almonds
- Marinated artichoke hearts
- Smoked uncured applewood bacon – this stuff is dirt cheap, thick cut and amazing. I keep it in the fridge on the regular.
- Organic marinara sauce
- Multi-grain flax flatbread – my #1 favorite brand of “flat out” wrap
- Multigrain pita crackers – these are delicious!
- Italian seasoning
- Chocolate bars (3) – these chocolate bars are a staple in my house!
And an 8-pack of Bounty paper towels.
Not bad, huh?
Are you an ALDI shopper?
(This post is not sponsored…I just love ALDI!)
when i went to aldi this past wednesday they had kombucha — for $2.49 each if i remember right! I bought a few bottles of two different flavors (cherry & ginger pear) and was very pleased! — I was nervous the cherry one would remind me of cough syrup but it definitely didn’t!
kaitlyn! i totally saw kombucha too and even took a picture of it. i’m glad to hear it was good. i’ll pick it up next time!
Seriously?! I live on St. John in the usvi and an $85 weekly shopping trip for me is usually Greek yogurt, an organic chicken and the one or two produce items that aren’t actively rotting! Oh the things I miss about the main land!!
but you live on St. John!!!!!!! can i ask what you do there?
My husband and I own and manage a restaurant here, and I am also in the process of getting my pilates and group fitness certifications. There is such a need for healthy, productive hobbies for people here, as I’m sure you can imagine if you’ve been before!
oh cool! i have been there twice and it’s such a lovely place do you like living there? i always joke that my plan z if all else fails is to move to the virgin islands and open a yoga studio and personal train. that is amazing that you are getting your certifications. let me know if you have any questions or if i can support you in any way!
Which ALDI do you shop? I went Sunday and there was no produce worth buying.
either the one off of south blvd or in matthews. it can be hit or miss.
Well you can not beat that avocado price! I have no Aldis around me though and have never even seen one, haha!
WOW that is really impressive for $85.00! I don’t think there are any ALDI’s in Houston. But I always love to see what other people buy for groceries and what they save. Have a beautiful day friend! XOXO
That is a great price for an avocado! I don’t shop at Aldi because the one location here is pretty far away but I should really stop in when I am in that area.
yes, definitely a great stop when you are nearby but i totally get convenience shopping…it’s important for us on the go girls!
wow! that even beats my Kroger run, which I’m usually pretty proud of! good job!
i grew up shopping at kroger. they do have good prices.
wow that seems good for $85 but as you said minimal meat. thats where it gets you !
i have only been to aldi once. nothing is super close to me and i hate going to 2 stores. one thing in my area in ohio the aldi’s vary a lot in offering based on the neighborhood (economics i think). seems like yours has a lot of variety, more than what we have here. i need to check it out more !
i totally get going to two stores. i usually alternate. i’ll hit ALDI one week, whole foods another, Trader Joe’s the next…that way i’m always stocked up with my faves from each respective store.
I’ve been there once about a year ago in Ohio and was disappointed to see Corn Syrup in almost all of their shelf products including Apple Sauce. Now that we live in NC, I’m tempted to check it out again. Have you noticed if corn syrup is still a staple in many of their items?
i will definitely look out for that next time i am there and ask my contacts at ALDI. side note, they are offering more and more organic options that do not include it.
Is your upcoming Super Bowl post sponsored by Aldi?
yes, it will be. i developed two appetizers for it! can’t wait to share them!
I lowered our weekly grocery budget (for a family of 5 with three growing kids:) from $250 at Publix to around $85-$100 per week at Aldi with a few trips to Publix thrown in there once or twice a month. I love that Aldi sells grass-fed beef and free range chicken – they’re not always in stock but I get a lot when they have them. Great haul!!! We get a lot of those same things! Shopping at Aldi frees me up to splurge on take out occasionally or at Whole Foods when I want something special. It’s awesome.
wow that is incredible! and yes, the chicken and beef are usually special buys so always good to look out for them.
do you have any other favorite ALDI items that i should check out since we like similar things?
i love your whole foods justification! 🙂 perfect!
Aldi really has great buys! I always forget to go there but when I do I am impressed with what I get. I got this amazing rich aged cheddar with cranberries for the holidays there. yum!
I don’t have an ALDI near me but I sometimes go to Winn-Dixie which I think (?) is comparable. So much cheaper and they offer some good products. I’m SO happy it’s strawberry season. I’m from Florida and they are the best.
we had winn dixie in my town growing up. winn dixie is a more budget friendly grocery store but pretty different than ALDI. what makes ALDI so unique is their huge focus on private labels which drives costs down because you’re not paying for national brands.
florida strawberries are THE BEST!
