I went to bed last night to the sound of rain and thought it was going to continue into the morning (that’s what I get for trusting the weather man). I was so sad to wake up at 7:15 and discover sunny skies and warm (relatively) temperatures. There just wasn’t enough time to squeeze in a run before work and I had plans after work so I missed out on running on the one nice day we had. Sadly, the 10-day forecast is calling for a lot of rain and cold. Boo. I am so ready for longer days and warmer temperatures. Who’s with me!?
So today was an unplanned rest day but I’m okay with that. I would have liked to have worked out it’s okay that it didn’t happen. Honestly, I’m pretty tired and I know that the rest is good for me. How do you guys deal with unplanned rest days? Do you roll with it or stress out about missing your workout?
I had banana oatmeal at my desk this morning and then came home for lunch.
Trader Joe’s masala veggie burger on a bagel thin with mashed avocado, spinach and provolone.
This was my first time trying the masala burgers and they were pretty good for the very affordable price. They were more potato-heavy than I anticipated but I like the spice level and flavor. I dipped my sandwich in ketchup.Pears and carrots on the side.
I had plans to see one of my favorite people in Charlotte after work today. I headed over to Varji & Varji for a brow wax with Ariana. Seriously, seeing her is one of the highlights of my month. Not only is she insanely talented, but she is also beautiful and personable. It’s always fun to catch up with her!
After my brow wax I met a long lost friend for a glass of wine at Yn.
I worked with Megan at Camp Wayfarer many, many summers ago. Although we both live in Charlotte, this is the first time that we’ve gotten together. She is an amazing triathlete and spinning instructor. We had fun discussing all things fitness, racing and Charlotte. I asked if she’d be willing to write an intro to triathlons post and share a race recap from an upcoming half-Ironman and she’s definitely interested. Be on the lookout for that! ๐
I made a quick salad for dinner when I got home.
Spinach, mixed greens, olives, sundried tomatoes, carrots, dried cranberries, almonds, feta and roasted chick peas with homemade balsamic vinaigrette. A slice of ciabatta toast on the side.
Bed time. Meeting a friend who is also going through yoga teacher training at a different studio in Charlotte for ashtanga in the morning! Can’t wait to hear how it’s going for her!
I hate when the weather gets in the way of running ๐
ME TOO! Bring on the Spring!
mm that salad looks delish! roasting chickpeas is something easy i need to get in the habit of doing!

this was my first time trying it and i thought it was delicious! a fun salad topping.
I can’t wait for beautiful running weather. This snow is just getting annoying now. Bring on the sun!
With all the snow days up here, my workout schedule has gotten really weird. I used to get annoyed/anxious when I couldn’t do what I planned, but I’m learning that it’s okay. Sometimes an unplanned rest day comes at the perfect time. Sounds like you had a great day nonetheless!
I imagine that you have to be flexible when dealing with the conditions you guys have experienced this winter. It makes me feel like a baby for complaining about the dark and cold when we don’t even have snow on the ground! Glad you are learning to give yourself a break sometimes when it doesn’t work out.
I so cannot wait for Spring and Summer! Happy Rest Day!
I can’t WAIT for better weather! I want to run in the SUN again!!
I tend not to stress about unplanned rest days normally, but I’m training at the mo to increase my speed for an upcoming race, so every missed training opportunity is frustrating!! But otherwise I just remember that it’s just one workout, and then have fun doing something else instead ๐
I love the point of just trying to have fun doing something else! Great reminder that sometimes you have to live a little and workouts aren’t the end all, be all!
Think Spring!
Although sometimes I find unplanned rest days a little unnerving, I know my body needs it and, in the big picture of training, it won’t matter at all.
I agree on the masala burger being kind of potato-ey but I did like it. I am going to have to play around with toppings and stuff to see how I like to eat it best. Sometime you’ll have to come down to OM and do yoga with Jen and I!
I am down for a visit to OM anytime. Maybe I can come down for one of the 90 minute classes sometime soon. Figure out what teacher you love and I’ll be there! ๐
I am stressing HARD CORE about missing workouts, but only because they’re vital to my mind set. Really, I’m just digging myself into a bigger hole by doing that.
It’s awesome that you found someone else going through a training program as well!!
What I want to know is, how do you go out in public after a brow wax? I always look like I got smacked in the forehead and have to go into hiding for a few hours! Is there a trick I don’t know about?
Would also love to know if you roast your own chickpeas and how, or if you buy them that way? … and I did mean to ask you the number/name for the peach pepper jam- thanks!
Mary Beth – I think I’ve been waxing for so long that it just doesn’t phase me anymore. Seriously, it doesn’t even hurt when she does it! I’m immune.
I send you the peach pepper jelly info this weekend!
I’m just ready for the snow to go away!!! I just read that we might get dumped on again on Monday, I can’t handle this anymore!
Those veggie burgers are my new favorites, I was a little skeptical at first, but they are delicious, even my meat loving husband likes them.
I feel for you SO much with all the snow. Hang in there. I just can’t even imagine.
Pretty excited about my PB Runner shout-out – looking forward to contributing from the ‘tri-gal’ perspective soon!!
I usually feel guilty on unplanned rest days, but I will admit they’re needed every now and then.
I can’t wait for Spring!
