Well, our streak of weekend road trips continued last night with a drive to Atlanta. One of Brandon’s college roomates is getting married today! All of our four-hour road trips are for fun activities (beach, visiting family, a wedding and next weekend – VACATION!) so it’s worth the long hours in the car. And is it wrong to say that I actually enjoy the road trips because they force me to slow down and sit in one place for an extended period of time!? ๐
Friday morning I made a triumphant return to my yoga mat for my favorite hot vinyasa class.
I was ready to sweat, breathe and flow. My practice was exactly what I wanted it to be and I felt so strong and happy in my body. One week off from something never killed anyone, so I’m glad I took that break.
Breakfast was overnight oats eaten at my desk once I arrived at work. Strawberries, blueberries and bananas mixed in and TJ’s Sunflower Butter and Crofter’s on top. Yum!
It was actually cool and rainy for part of the day in Charlotte so I picked up a bowl of soup on my lunch break from Berrybrook Farm. I love having this natural foods store so close to my office. They make the best homemade soups. This one was vegetable and barley and they didn’t skimp on the veggies. It was full of greens, squash, zucchini, cauliflower, carrots and more.
We got on the road around 5:30. Usually, we wait until we get to our destination and have a late dinner but last night we were both starving so we decided to stop around 8. Our options were pretty limited – chain, chain and more chain. We decided to go with Ruby Tuesday due to the salad bar option.
I was actually pleased with their salad bar toppings and piled it on. Let me see if I can remember what we have here…mixed greens, spinach, broccoli, sundried tomatoes, edamame, beets, blue cheese, sunflower seeds, cucumbers, dried cranberries, diced egg, carrots, peas and balsamic vinaigrette.
We’re staying with my parents this weekend. We arrived at their house around 10:30 and I promptly made myself a bowl of peach ice cream before crashing. I slept SO WELL last night. I don’t know what it is about my childhood bedroom set but I always sleep like a rock when I’m here.
Brandon and I headed out for a run this morning. Yes, he ran with me!!!
Conditions were perfect – sunny and 65 degrees. We ran just over four miles at an easy, conversational pace…minus when we were trucking up the long, steep hills. Most people don’t believe it but Atlanta is hillier than Charlotte!
My parents had a breakfast spread waiting when we finished our run. Fresh fruit, greek yogurt, waffles and bacon.
I had a waffle with a little spread of Justin’s Maple Almond Butter and a drizzle of maple syrup. My dad is the best waffle maker ever! Fruit and yogurt on the side. The berries were sweet and delicious!
Off to enjoy this beautiful Saturday in Atlanta. Meeting friends to see their new house and grab lunch and then it’s wedding time!
Happy weekend friends!!! ๐
We were in Atlanta last weekend for a wedding! The day after the wedding we drove over to Stone Mountain and ran around the base, then hiked to the top, talk about HILLS, oh man! I have been to Atlanta many times, but it was so cool to see it from that perspective! Hope you have fun this weekend!
oh, i haven’t done stone mountain in years! it was a hot field trip spot when i was growing up! ๐
I LOVE that you love nut butter on your waffles. ME TOO!
brandon always looks at me like i’m crazy and asks me why i can’t just leave it alone and eat it with butter and syrup! nut butter makes everything better. ๐
YAAAAY for a strong return to yoga!! ๐ Just out of interest, what’s your favourite ‘type’ of yoga? I know you’ve probably got asked this a lot, but I was just wondering!
Enjoy your road trip again and have a great weekend!!
P.S. I want your purple Tempos!! I’ve never seen them in that colour!! LOVE them! ๐
hey emma – my very favorite type of yoga is ashtanga but it is definitely an acquired taste. other than that i primarily practice power vinyasa yoga (in a heated room!). basically, the more challenging and athletic the better! ๐
That waffle looks delicious and hearty!! ๐
I miss running with David. He is definitely the best running partner. He always pushes me to do my best.
so glad you got your yoga time as well as some brandon time running! Thats a lovely weekend indeed. You guys deserve it!
Welcome to Atlanta!!! The hills are crazy here! Hope you enjoy your time in the Dirty South! ๐

Stumbled upon your blog and love it. I have lived in Canada now for 3yrs, but I’m from Greensboro, NC. So excited to accidentally find someone from my neck of the woods. Looking forward to getting back for a visit in a couple of weeks. Love your blog, we return.
