Happy weekend!
First, we are at 225 and still growing for my online fall half marathon training group. What an unbelievable few days it’s been. I can’t wait to get this thing started! I’ll be sending out a base-building email this weekend so look out for that.
Second, I usually write my Friday posts early Friday afternoons during my break between teaching. Well, that got sidetracked by this today.
I am now sitting in front of my computer in my newly cleaned an organized office. I wish I had snapped a before. I have been saying for weeks and weeks that I wanted to get the office in order. It was a little chaotic and it’s sometimes hard for me to focus when things around me feel disorganized. (Thus the reason why I usually do a quick house pick up/clean up before starting computer work for the day.) When I sat down to work today around 2 p.m., Zoey was going crazy over something under the desk. I peeked my head under there and saw a small roach. It’s the first one I’ve seen in this house since we moved in almost a year ago so I took it seriously. I abandoned all work plans and considered it a sign from the universe that it was time to get things clean and orderly.
My zen level is about 1,000x higher now. So my message to my yoga class this evening was this story, believing in signs and taking care of yourself and your shit!
Third, I walked all three dogs at the same time yesterday for the first time. We were quite a site to see and I had many “you’ve got your hands full” comments form neighbors. While I wouldn’t call our walk enjoyable, it definitely went a lot better than I expected. We walked for about 40 minutes.
Fourth, the week of eats!
Breakfast
The best breakfast of the week award goes to this farmers market-inspired start to the day. Two scrambled eggs from my favorite farmer, homegrown tomatoes, sliced avocado and blackberries, peaches and blueberries.
Sweet potato breakfast bowls and two scrambled eggs.
Overnight chia pudding topped with fresh peaches, blueberries and almond butter eaten at the gym after a workout and between training clients.
Lunch
Heirloom tomatoes, sliced avocado, basil and Dukes mayo on sourdough.
Fruit, nut and veggie salad with all sorts of good stuff. Greens, thinly sliced raw heirloom okra (<– tip from my farmer friend and so good), blueberries, roasted beets, tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, pecans, dried cranberries.
Avocado, sauerkraut and scrambled egg toast with sliced tomatoes and basil.
Greens, leftover sriracha lime salmon, roasted beets, tomatoes, pecans, avocado, cucumbers, dried cranberries.
Dinner
Slow cooker short ribs over couscous with braised red cabbage. I would totally recommend trying this slow cooker method for short ribs. It was divine.
Dinner date with one of my dearest girlfriends at our favorite spot, Good Food on Montford. When our server greeted us and told us there was one order of the local veggie left and what it was, we said “we’ll take it!” Pan-fried shishito peppers with Korean barbecue sauce and a lime aioli.
Green curry mussels. Always a must.
Gnocchi with housemade lamb and pork mortadella, mint ricotta and bitter greens.
Dinner was amazing! Good Food never disappoints.
Sriracha lime salmon, glazed Chinese long beans and couscous.
Marinated wedding chicken thighs (first time trying this “famous” marinade and it was awesome!) with roasted okra, parsnips and brussels.
Time to enjoy Friday night. Have a great weekend!
Does a clean and orderly environment help you focus or do you thrive in chaos?
Do you ever feel like you get signs about things?
Are you a walker of multiple dogs?
Best dinner last week?
You seem to use a nice mix of fruit. Do you often cut half a banana or nectarine? If so, how do you save the rest for later use?
I just stick the banana in the fridge and keep it in its peel. It will hold for a day or so. I usually use a whole peach or nectarine. Those get kinda slimy and brown.
As much as I procrastinate cleaning, I find having a clean home makes a huge difference in how I feel, especially if I clean it over the weekend… I feel so much better heading into Monday!
I am a firm believer in signs, it’s just accepting them that can be difficult!
Yes, yes, yes! If things around me are unorganized I can’t focus…period!
I’m the walker of 2 dogs a lab and a labradoodle! I tried to run both of them once and that was a little crazy! Your dogs are so pretty!
Oh man, I’ve never tried to run both of mine at the same time. I don’t think it would be possible!
a thousand times yes to clean surroundings = clean mind. i couldnt agree more. i find this is true especially for girls. most men i know can sorta tune out clutter noise but i totally cannot.
Agreed on the men point! Ha!
