Hi everyone! I’m having a great visit with my mom. Highlights so far include Friday night pizza, a beautiful 5-mile run, eating zero (repeat zero) veggies yesterday with no veggie guilt, eating ice cream and peanut butter and jelly instead, beach time, the Destin Seafood Festival and lots of sleep.
I arrived right around sunset on Friday so we went for a walk on the beach before dinner.
We decided to keep it casual for dinner and go out for pizza at Graffiti. Friday night pizza is always a good idea in my book!
We have been eating at Graffiti since we vacationed here when I was young and I’m happy to report that it is still amazing.
We ordered salads and then split the Greek Pizza. It was topped with cheese, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, olives and feta. They were very generous with the toppings and the crust was light, crispy and chewy.
We stopped by Publix after dinner to grab some groceries and of course I had to pick up my addiction. Publix brand Cookie’s & Cream…best ice cream ever.
I went for a run on Saturday morning and made my turnaround point goal the top of a bridge. The views and breeze from the top were great .
I covered just over 5 miles at a pretty relaxed pace. It felt so nice to have the time to run with the bonus of beautiful scenery.
Overnight oats waiting for me in the fridge for my post-run breakfast.
Topped with Wild Squirrel Cinnamon Raisin Peanut Butter that I was sent to test from the National Peanut Board. It’s tasty but I really can’t wait to get into that Chocolate Coconut Peanut Butter!
Then it was beach time.
The most perfect packed beach lunch imaginable. Apple slices, pb & j and goldfish. 🙂
And a fun evening out with my mom but more on that later. We’re off to breakfast!
Have a happy Sunday!
Glad you’re having a great time. 🙂 Publix cookies & cream IS the best ice cream. It has the biggest chunks of Oreos. Ugh, now I want some.
i know, the generous amount of cookies (and the size of the chunks) is what made me fall in love years ago!
Ok first of all, SO LUCKY you got to go to Florida and be with your mommy! Where does she live? I love the looks of that pizza. You inspire me to run distance and enjoy food in healthy moderation. You look very thin, but strong and lean and I admire that. Oh, and the lunch on the beach… could not have been a better choice! I am almost 20 and I still love my pb&j’s for lunch a good number of times per week. 🙂
hi lizzie – she’s outside of destin on okaloosa island. it’s a fun place to visit! thanks for the sweet comment.
your Mom looks so great….beach life is good for her. Now she just needs to talk your Dad into retiring for good. Give them both my love.
he is at the end of october! crazy!!! you’ll have to catch up with him and get all the details. i’m so happy for them both.
I love this post. I love that you had a veggie free day. From the sounds of your last few posts, I think you needed it!
Sounds like the BEST weekend trip. And I love the way your hair looks curly!
thanks! i need to embrace it! i have to at the beach because of the humidity.
Oh my, those peanut butter packages look awesome!
Sounds like a great weekend trip so far:) Enjoy your time away!!
I love Publix! Did you know they are opening two that won’t be very far away….Indian Land and Tega Cay. And those Wild Squirrel Nut Butters look delicious!!
i have heard that and i’ll have to go stock up on my favorite publix brand items!
Ah cool! I am in Gulf Shores with my mom and we are just loving the beautiful beach weather this weekend too 🙂 We have seen so many dolphins here… hope y’all have too!!
it’s so funny…right after i read this comment i went out to watch the sunset and saw my first dolphins of the trip. hope you’re having fun with your mom!
Yah, that is amazing! I was hoping you would get some dolphin sightings too… they were just beautiful! Safe travels back and good luck on the level 1 certification- you will be great and rock it 😉
Looks like you’re having a great trip! Wild Squirrel has awesome peanut butter – one of my faves!
have you tried the pretzel flavor? omg – so good!
Hi Jen! I can’t seem to find your recipe for overnight oats… I use to have it but lost it! do you think you can post it! Looks like you are having fun on your trip!
Chocolate Coconut PB?! All my favorites in one?!!!
Hey Jen, I will be in Destin later this year. Do you have any recommendations for hot vinyasa yoga studios in the area?
i don’t know of any hot studios here but i am going to try a studio tonight and i’ll let you know how it is!
Goldfish… want… them… now. I haven’t eaten goldfish in too long.
I just had a weekend with my Mom and it was amazing! I forgot how wonderful it was to have someone cook for you. It doesn’t hurt that my mom is fabulous chef….
