This weekend we had the honor of attending the wedding of a close friend, Clay. Brandon and Clay were fraternity brothers (Clay was actually Brandon’s big brother!) and they lived together senior year of college. I spent quite a lot of time with Brandon and his four roommates during our senior year and have so many great memories from that house. It’s been so much fun to see everyone get married.
Clay met his new wife, Tyler, a couple of years ago. She is also a Georgia grad and we’ve loved getting to know her. Clay proposed to Tyler on family land in the mountains outside of Rome, Georgia and they decided to hold the wedding there as well.
Everything about the wedding perfect. The weather was awesome – cloudless blue skies with a lovely fall crispness in the air. The vibe was casual but with phenomenal attention to detail. The food was relaxed but extremely well done. And the entertainment kept the dance floor packed all night. I am really excited to share this beautiful wedding with you.
The Ceremony
We were transported to the wedding site via shuttle. When we arrived people were milling about with drinks while waiting for the ceremony to get underway. They had a guitarist who provided background music and then the ceremony music.
The ceremony was performed by another of Brandon and Clay’s fraternity brothers who entered seminary after college. It was really cool to see a friend performing the wedding. Check out the bridesmaids cowboy boots!
We sat on cloth-covered bales of hay.
The Food
Cocktail hour apps included pimento cheese and smoked trout dip with carrots, celery and crackers. There were also deviled eggs and boiled peanuts.
Dinner was a barbecue feast catered by Community Q BBQ out of Decatur, Georgia. My plate was piled high with brisket, pulled pork, mac and cheese (that was to die for), creamed corn and cole slaw.
The cake was not only beautiful but insanely delicious too.
It was the traditional vanilla pound cake but not dry at all and filled with strawberries and covered in cream cheese frosting. I selected a very icing-heavy piece and savored every bite!
The Beautiful Scenery
A pink sky sunset.
Tons of lights strung around and a roaring bonfire.
The tent with the band stayed slammed all night.
The people.
Final outfit selection was a short-sleeved black sweater dress, gold jewelry, black tights and brown boots. The boy wore black cowboy boots, dress khakis, a white dress shirt, vest and tie.
Brandon and the groom.
First dance. Isn’t Tyler’s dress to die for? I love the open back.
Brandon with another of his roommates, Charlie and his wife Ashley. Remember when we went to their wedding in May?
Of course once darkness settled in the pictures got sillier.
Brandon and Clay…notice Clay balancing it out with beer + water. Responsible groom!
We had way too much fun with the prop cowboy hats from the photo booth.
A sparkler send-off. They left in a pickup truck.
These kind of evenings are such great reminders of how lucky we are to have such amazing friends in our lives. It is really special to be there for each other during these huge life events. I am so happy for Clay and Tyler and wishing them a wonderful honeymoon trip to Hawaii followed by a lifetime of smiles and happy moments.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
What a fun wedding! Love your outfit. Also loved that they served a bbq dinner!
Hahahah!
I love how relaxed this wedding seems, that is how they all should be!
My friends just had a wedding where the bridesmaids wore cowboy boots — so adorable!
Great weekend here — I finished my first marathon!! Might take a bit but I can try to recap 🙂
Congratulations!!! Take your time with the recap (would still love one!) but you have to tell me quickly – how did it go!? Really happy for you!
It was more challenging than I could’ve imagined! I didn’t get my stretch goal — but JUST got my B Goal (3:45:52). Having my family there (husband, parents, sister, in-laws, cousins, aunt, uncle!) and running w/ someone I’d trained with the whole summer made a huge difference. It reminded me of how loved I am to have such amazing support.
Feeling sore but happy today!
jenny – that is an INCREDIBLE finishing time. you are a rock star!
i agree, having support on the course is priceless. so happy that you had a good experience overall! recover well!
I love the cake and her wedding dress! Just beautiful.

Reminds me of our wedding on a mountaintop outside of Asheville – there is something so special about outdoor weddings. Glad the weather was SO perfect, looks like a great time.

And you are spot on about that dress, it’s amazing!
I always grab the piece with the greatest amount of icing too–it is the best part! 😀
