Thanks to all of you for the sweet birthday messages on Instagram and on the blog. This has been one of those birthdays that seems to stretch out over a few days! Last year I shared a “Day in the Life: Birthday Edition” post after my birthday so I thought I’d do that again this year. It’s been a great week of celebration and my heart is full!
My day started with an early wake up call to teach my 6 a.m. yoga class.
I was welcomed with a roomful of yogis including some of my friends who got up early just to take my class on my birthday, cupcakes, flowers and balloons so it was a pretty awesome start to my birthday.
Let’s all say a little prayer that I can keep this orchid alive. Please send me your orchid care tips because I have yet to successfully do it!
I came home to make breakfast and got my flowers in vases. I absolutely love having fresh flowers around the house!
I decided to start my day with a smoothie as usual knowing that lots of treats were probably coming later in the day!
After breakfast and blogging, I headed back to the studio to practice and teach another class. Check out this new headband from Suzee Bee Active. A friend of mine’s mother started this company and she sent me a few headbands to try out. I got so many compliments on my cheerful outfit and colorful headband.
I had a sushi lunch after class at the studio (yes, the yoga studio now has a sushi bar…it’s kind of life changing.)
After lunch I had my hair cut and colored (it had been over four months!), got a little more work done and ate a carrot cake cupcake.
Later that evening I got all dressed up in a little white dress to go out for my dinner. My fiance took me to Ruth’s Chris in Uptown Charlotte where he had arranged for us to dine in the restaurant’s wine cellar. It was intimate and cozy!
We started with a chopped salad.
And then shared a petite fillet oscar style (with crab cake, hollandaise and asparagus) and some creamed spinach. If you haven’t eaten at Ruth’s Chris, their signature steak preparation is broiling it under a 1,000 degree broiler, serving it on a 500 degree plate and slathering butter all over the steak. It’s pretty decadent.
They brought me a mini cheesecake with a candle for dessert. It was a really nice evening.
The following evening we had a group celebration at the studio after my evening class.
There was more sushi!
And more cupcakes! The ones with the tan icing were Oreo cupcakes with peanut butter frosting and OH MY GOD! So good!
Feeling grateful for so much love and abundance in life right now. Cheers to 32!
What a wonderful birthday!!
Cupcakes & sushi 🙂
Two of my favorite things!
Your birthday looks perfect! And you look absolutely gorgeous. You look so happy.
Thank you!
Love your shoes with the white dress. Can you tell me where they are from, and anything more so that I can look into them?
So glad you were treated as well as you deserve! Happy birthday!
Thanks!
Yoga and sushi might just be one of my favorite combos. On par with naps and puppy snuggles!
Happy birthday!
Orchids are tough. I live just outside Washington, DC. I have a couple I’ve kept alive for quite awhile now, and they’ve even re-bloomed. I have them in a east-facing window so that they get some sunlight, but not a lot. I only water them about every 2 weeks. I think most people probably over-water. I know I did that to my first one! They are awesome, though, because once they bloom, the flowers last for several months!
Good to know! Thanks!
Happy Birthday! It looks like you had an awesome day!
I got an orchid for Mother’s Day and have kept it alive so far using the instructions it came with: 3oz of warm water once a week and indirect sunlight. So, I just put 3oz of water in there every Monday and it’s still looking new. It’ll probably die later today now that I’ve left this comment haha
Ha! Thank you!
Happy Birthday Jen!
It sounds like it was a wonderful birthday. You are glowing in the last picture
Thank you!
OMG happy birthday Jen! Have a good one and celebrate how amazing you are <3
So glad you had a great birthday!!!!
Love all the cupcakes- yum!
For orchids…three ice cubes once a week. Has always worked for me!
Happy belated birthday!
Where are your fab yellow leggings from!? I love the color! And two further important questions…any see-through or camel toe issues with them??
My no-fail orchid care advice is if you have a bathroom with a window, place it in there. They like the humidity from your shower. I cannot keep a plant alive, except I have had my orchid thriving in my bathroom for 6+ years!
Sounds like a great vacation and a great day ! you seem so genuinely happy im literally reading this at my desk and smiling at my computer ; )
i have 0 orchid advice since like you i have never been able to keep them alive and think of them as disposable at this point since i’m so bad at it ! i feel like its a test! the cupcakes sounds awesome !
Thank you so much Tara! I am happy! 🙂
Haha, so glad someone else struggles with orchid care too!
