My birthday was pretty low-key but I felt very loved! Between my friends, family, Facebook, Twitter and the blog I think I got a “happy birthday” every 5 minutes. Nice!
There was a common theme to my day yesterday – carbs. At first I felt guilty but then I decided it was my birthday and I would just go with it. 😮
My thoughtful co-workers brought in Panera bagels for breakfast. I didn’t take a picture but I had a whole grain bagel with lite veggie cream cheese.
I went home for lunch and planned on making a big salad but I couldn’t get almond butter off of my mind (I think I was in withdrawal since I didn’t have any with breakfast!). I knew I should have had some with an apple but I really wanted a piece of Great Harvest Honey Whole Wheat.
Carbs won. I had a salad with baby greens, beets, strawberries, cucumbers, avocado and homemade honey balsamic. A piece of honey whole wheat with Justin’s Honey Almond Butter and a little bit of jam on the side.
Later that afternoon I snacked on a pineapple Chobani at my desk.
I’d heard so much about this flavor but was unable to find it anywhere. I was shopping at a different grocery store on Sunday and they had it. I grabbed a couple. This flavor is awesome! Definitely my favorite flavored Chobani!
And then I came home to this.
Flowers, balloons, a cake and my ridiculously sweet and cute pup.
Best dog ever.
Happy hour commenced.
Magic Hat Summer Seasonal.
And then an unexpected present. We discussed NOT doing presents this year but secretly I was excited. 😉 Brandon said he felt bad that I had nothing to open.
First, a card from Sullie.
Love cards from the dog!
Second, something I’ve been coveting since the blog and twitter world were all abuzz about them last week.
The Toms Wedges!!! I briefly mentioned wanting them and my awesome husband remembered. I’ve had them on nonstop since.
In love. So comfortable.
I couldn’t resist a teeny sliver of this amazing carrot cake that my mother in law made before dinner. (It was my birthday – no judging!)
Notice the mess around the bottom edge of the cake. I may have sampled the icing before cutting into it. Maybe.
I was in the mood for something casual and relaxed for dinner. We decided to try George’s Brasserie for mussels and wine. The service was a bit slow but the mussels were perfect.
Love the giant pot they came in. Fun touch. There were multiple pieces of French bread dipped into the sauce.
And of course we finished the night with a slice of cake.
It’s always a little sad to get in bed at the end of your birthday. I was bummed it was over.
This morning I was back on board with oatmeal. I had banana oatmeal made with vanilla soy milk. I mixed in cinnamon, blueberries, dried cranberries and chia seeds. Topped off with almond butter and a little bit of jam.
I went home for lunch today and it was like my birthday all over again! Whee!
A gift card from my grandmother, my new Nikon point and shoot and a birthday package from my friend Cristen all arrived in the mail. Can’t wait to shop at Banana Republic, play with my new camera, wear my new earrings and squeeze some lemons!
Lunch was another salad.
Baby greens with cucumber, artichoke hearts, dried cranberries, beets, water chestnuts, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Leftover whole wheat couscous on the side.
GIVEAWAY WINNER
Thank you to everyone who entered the yoga DVD giveaway yesterday. I loved all of your responses and I seriously wish I could give a DVD to every single person who left a comment (minus my husband and his friend Graham who just wanted to talk about spandex onesies 😉 ).
But random.org says the winner is comment #23 from Lori.
Here is Lori’s response:
“I love anything active. I have been on and off with Yoga for years now. Recently started back up and realizing it’s what I love most! Right now I travel 30 min to a studio south of where I live. Would love to incorporate a practice at home.”
Lori – I will contact you on twitter or by email to figure out how to get everything to you. Again, thank you to everyone who entered!
And now I declare this marathon post OVER.
sounds like a great birthday. & your pup with the balloon? too much!
& the tom’s wedges! gah, so jealous. must. get. a. pair. and soon!
That’s hilarious! I found ONE Chobani pineapple at Publix on Sunday. It’s the best by far! I’ve been substituting Chobani regular for sour cream. You can’t even tell a difference.
Happy Birthday to you! Looks like it was fabulous!
What an awesome birthday! Love the shoes and now I’m craving mussels and a big glass of wine.
