I’m late getting to my blog tonight because I’ve been working on a fun project for lululemon. Look out for an update with all the details Wednesday!
I got yesterday’s blog post done early so that Brandon and I could finally spend some time together after I spent all weekend in yoga teacher training. We made plans to go out for pizza but the weather did not cooperate. I was winding up my day at work around 6 p.m. when several people came rushing down the halls saying a big storm was coming and we needed to leave immediately. The next thing I knew, rain was beating down, wind was roaring and we were in the midst of a serious thunderstorm. I made it to my car but got soaking wet in the process.
Once I finally made it home, we debated just ordering pizza but decided to brave the weather and go out anyway. We are pretty serious about our love for pizza and we weren’t going to let a storm get in our way! 😉
We headed to Brixx. It’s one of our favorite places for wood-fired pizza and they have $1.95 microbrews on Mondays. Awesome!
We split a Brixx salad to start. Baby greens, goat cheese, pistachios and croutons.
One of my favorite things about Brixx is that the pizzas are personal sized so Brandon and I don’t have to compromise on pizza.
I went with the wood-roasted veggie pizza on whole wheat crust. I left two pieces of this that I’m planning on enjoying for lunch.
I started this morning with an ashtanga practice. I’ve said this many times before but I love that there is always something new to work on with my ashtanga practice. Today it was lengthening through my upper back because I was looking a little like a turtle in some of the poses (which I was oblivious to until my teacher pointed it out). It’s amazing how much difference being aware and setting an intention can make. I’m also back in the groove with my backbend series and hoping to make a video of the full series for you guys soon!
I had breakfast at my desk.
Overnight oats with blueberries, bananas and strawberries. Topped with almond butter and Crofter’s.
It was an insane day at work packed with meetings. I had a lunch meeting so no pictures but I had a veggie sandwich with avocado, provolone, sprouts, tomato and lettuce on seven-grain whole wheat.
Hold on to your hats for tonight’s dinner…
Yes, I ate steak. The last time that happened was in October. Crazy! I grew up with a dad who is a very talented griller and we had steak often for dinner. Over the last few years I have cut back on my meat consumption and never really want red meat.
Brandon mentioned that he would like to grill steaks for dinner and I just went with it. He does such a great job with steaks on his Big Green Egg. Here’s the link to his favorite method. We had leftover mac and cheese and roasted broccoli on the side.
Catching up on last night’s Bachelor on DVR and then off to bed!
Two questions – what foods do you guys enjoy but not eat often? And what foods are you willing to brave the elements for?
I would definitely brave the elements for a good pizza and a good dessert. I love pizzas loaded with veggies!
I enjoy chicken every once in a while, but just recently became a vegetarian so stray away from it more than I did in the past. I would brave the bad weather for YOFORIA! I have the biggest sweet tooth and absolutely LoVe frozen yogurt :o)
I also LOVE Yoforia. It’s been way too long since I’ve been…I think it will be a must this weekend!
I would brave the elements for Mexican food. I cannot get enough of that stuff, it’s so amazing.
I love a good fried mozzarella stick, but I indulge very rarely. I can feel my arteries clogging just thinking about eating them. I would definitely brave the elements for a good pizza and beer.
On a side note, I want to thank you for introducing me to The Civil Wars. I downloaded their Barton Hollow album, and it is seriously amazing. They are so talented.
Love that you are talking about fried cheese on a healthy living blog! So tasty. Please keep repeating these types of comments until my wife craves some of these delicious morsels.

Erin – I’m so glad that you are loving The Civil Wars!!! Beautiful music!
My husband is a bit dramatic…I definitely crave things like fried calamari, fried green tomatoes and french fries from time to time!
I am definitely with on braving the storm for pizza! Sometimes, it’s just worth it. 🙂
I don’t have pancakes very often but love having them when I do.
We went the pizza route Monday night too – but we had it delivered so we could sit on our back porch and listen to the rain/thunder 🙂
Stephanie – that sounds amazing!
You make me want the Big Green Egg so bad!! A grill and a smoker in one…amazing! I absolutely loved smoked chicken breast.
They are so awesome! They can also function as a ceramic oven – you can regulate temperature very well. Some people even bake in theirs!
I would brave the storm for pizza + beer. 🙂
I have recently braved the weather (big snowstorms in NE) for sushi with a girlfriend and also for Red Mango (yogurt.) Worth it! 🙂
Your pictures always show wonderful portion control- I would have 3x the mac and cheese!! Is that something you are conscious of? I could use some tips. 😉
