Did you know that you can purchase a totally functional, reasonably fast laptop for $150 these days? I am telling you this because I am writing this post from one.
I have been an “all things Apple” girl for the last 7-8 years now and I love my iPhone/MacBook/Apple Watch flow. It just all feels so integrated and easy. Well, I shattered my Apple Watch in Jamaica (in such a ridiculous, frustrating, dumb way) and my MacBook is in triage at the Apple Store (it’s really called triage, so dramatic) so I’m down to one Apple device at the moment, my phone. Personally, I find it impossible to work on my phone and I couldn’t go 3-5 business days without a laptop so off I went to Amazon in search of a budget Chromebook. Imagine my shock when I discovered that I could get a decently reviewed 2018 15″ Chromebook for $152! SIGN ME UP! I ordered it at 10p last night and it arrived at 4p today. I had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. Can’t beat that.
So let’s catch up.
Backing up to Friday, I met Dorie to get nails done (I went with bright red which I don’t do often enough!) and swung into Whole Foods to grab groceries for the weekend. I snapped a photo of what I got because it was a great capture of a normal grocery staple haul for me.
Next up was teacher training!!! This weekend was weekend four of eight for my 200-hour yoga teacher training at Charlotte Yoga. I taught class for them and then we watched the documentary Awake: The Life of Yogananda.
Saturday brought more teacher training…8a-6p. It was a long but great day. We covered alignment and assisting for a lot of standing poses, the five kleshas and the four branches of avidya and they practice taught warm ups. My day ended at the mall for the Genius bar appointment where I discovered that I’d have to leave my MacBook with them…again. I was really just tired, starving and wanted to get home ASAP.
When I got home, I heated up leftover frozen pizza from Friday night and vegged on the couch.
Sunday was another beautiful day of teacher training that included a yoga nidra meditation, a lecture on ashtanga and the history of power yoga, assist training, discussions on two of the yamas and practice teaching.
I love this work so very much and feel beyond grateful to be leading these 13 yogis on their TT journey! 🙂
I usually pick Finn up on Sunday afternoon but there was a change in the schedule that meant I didn’t get to see him until Monday morning.
Gosh, it was so good to see his sweet face at 7:30a this morning. We had the best day together.
A friend of mine that I haven’t seen in over a year stopped by today to visit and meet Finn. While we were hanging out he commented that he felt like I laughed more today than he’d ever seen me laugh in the 8+ years we’ve known each other. That really felt good to hear because I feel happier and more like myself than I have in a long time. <3
I have lots of great content planned for y’all this week so be sure to check back in! 🙂
Are you a Mac or PC person?
Do you use an Apple Watch or another fitness watch?
How was your weekend?
Does the YTT material cover proper lingo? I’m sure it does. I cannot tell you how many times I hear instructors, in multiple cities, in yoga classes, barre classes or otherwise, say to,”Come up one vertebrae at a time.” Vertebrae is plural….that’s like saying, “Let’s do this one steps at a time.” Let’s change the game…..one VERTEBRA at a time!
I’m totally obsessed with my apple watch and iPhone, but when it comes to my laptop, I’m a PC girl. I’ve always used PCs and just can’t wrap my head around the mac, it’s so different! I am so sorry to hear about your apple watch. I told my husband how now, after having one for a year, I don’t think I could live without it!
I love love love your friend’s comment! That is just THE BEST.
Mac vs PC is a tricky one…Apple lasts forever and the integration is awesome but it’s so expensive to repair. Let’s put it this way, I adore my iphone and macbook but my beat up old PC also gets plenty of use. For smartwatches, I’m team Garmin. I feel like their hardware is really solid, it gives me all of the fitness stuff, plus email and text notifications. You can’t beat the price on the F35.
I love the comment that your friend made. How great to hear! Sometimes we need those comments to push us to take a step back and realize how happy we truly are!
I am a PC person. I can’t justify the cost of an Apple. I know people love them but I mostly use my laptop for office applications, email and the internet so it doesn’t warrant owning an Apple. I have a Fitbit which I love. I like the step tracking and the sleep data. I used to use a Garmin when I was a runner but these days I tend to mostly walk (while pushing our 16 month in a stroller) and if I do run, I don’t use my garmin as I don’t feel like I need to see the pace. If I had that data I think I would just beat myself up over how slow I am compared to my pre-baby pace! Instead it’s nice to just run for the sake of running. I trained on the running paths in our neighborhood for years so I know what route to take to get X miles. I never could have ran without a garmin in my pre-baby days as I loved the data and tracking my miles. Having a baby sure has shifted my perspective on exercise and running!!
I’m both! I use a PC at work, but have a MAC at home. Although they are pretty expensive and to be honest, we don’t use it as much as we should. I had a MAC for grad school and loved how light it was. Granted computers have come a long way since then, but i was able to get used to all the short hand commands. We have a MAC, ipad, and iphone, however the MAC and ipad are linked to my account and kinda wish they weren’t so integrated since the MAC and ipad are shared between my husband and I.
I have a simple fitbit, that just logs steps and sleep… and I have a Garmin 220 that just logs running. I wish I would’ve gotten a Garmin that includes both steps and more activities than just running. My work gets reward points for steps logged and I used to have more friends on fitbit that would do challenges, so that was motivating. But I think that Garmin is more accurate for distance and pace compared to other brands.
I had never tried a yoga nidra class until I did one during my teacher training in the fall. It wasn’t love at first sight for me, but it’s been growing on me since that first one and now I try to do a nidra practice every week. It always feel so good afterwards.
One of my teachers from YTT has some posted on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8qTx3r9hUqrTARf1o46gCg). She has the best voice for them!
My favorite kind of posts! Thanks so much for sharing! Personally I love to blog on my MacBook but have also heard great things about the Chromebook! My school has lots of those available that I tend to do work on!
