Thanks for the love on yesterday’s nursery tour post! That was a fun one to write!
I had a nice weekend and it was so great to enjoy a quiet weekend with no teacher training before the baby comes.
FRIDAY
I was up super early on Friday morning due to that lovely pregnancy insomnia. The early wakeup call had me craving savory by the time breakfast hour rolled around. Avocado toast with sliced tomatoes, two scrambled eggs and pineapple.
I subbed a yoga class on Friday morning and then came back home for a little computer work catch up.
I met a girlfriend for lunch at Reid’s. We sat outside under these green umbrellas so my salad took on a green tint but it was super delicious. Spinach, arugula, salmon, goat cheese, golden raisins, tomatoes, spiced pecans and mandarin oranges.
I taught another yoga class at 4:30 and then took the girls for a Friday evening stroll.
Back at home I whipped up a burger bowl for dinner. I layered baby spinach, a leftover quinoa/brown rice blend, ranch dressing, tomatoes, avocado, lime crema and salsa in a bowl. I made chicken burgers out of ground chicken, salsa and a chili powder blend seasoning and added a spicy pimento goat cheese on top. They were delicious!
SATURDAY
The day kicked off with a smoothie bowl.
And then I decided I was in the mood to take a yoga class before teaching so I headed over to the studio to practice. My sports bra is Handful. I’ve had several questions about it. It’s super comfortable and the fit is flattering. (It is not maternity.)
After taking and teaching I ate lunch at Namastay Kitchen. I repeated the same tofu topped salad I ordered earlier in the week because it was so good. I also had a biscuit on the side.
I had a super active Saturday. After yoga and lunch, I went to Home Depot and bought herbs, ferns and flowers and did fun things like pot those and pick up dog poop in the back yard when I got home. Let me tell you, a 38 week pregnant lady picking up dog poop is not a glamorous thing to see! 😉
Next on the agenda was a dog walk on the trails. Tanner and I discussed baby names for the entirety of the walk. We had a first name but then I started second guessing it. The new plan is to go into the hospital with 2-3 options and decide once we meet him.
I was actually having a good bit of cramping really early Saturday morning and throughout the day Saturday in my belly and low back. I texted my doula about it and she told me it probably was a sign of cervical changes but to do my best to ignore it until it became an undeniable pattern.
Clearly, it did not turn into labor! She told me this could last 1-2 weeks!
I got myself into a dress to go to a friend’s food truck party on Saturday night. My dress is maternity and from Target. My shoes are Toms and my necklace is Erin McDermott.
My friend hosts this party every year where she has a food truck come to her house and also has tons of cupcakes from Cupcake Delirium. I had a grilled cheese with brie and bacon. It was so funny…when my friends were asking if I’d eaten yet, they all pointed out to me that “they have grilled cheese!”
Strawberry cupcake for dessert.
SUNDAY
Bagel breakfast! I went with the best of both worlds and did half blueberry with butter and cream cheese and half salt with butter, avocado, egg, tomato and cheese.
The rest of my day was pretty non-eventful. I took the girls for a long walk, taught yoga and went to Trader Joe’s. I started feeling super nauseous and out of sorts on Sunday afternoon but drinking tons of water and taking a hot bath calmed it down.
I had zero appetite for dinner or motivation to cook so I had the most random dinner of Wheat Thins and…
A steamed artichoke with aioli. Random, I know!
The night ended with watching Shameless on the couch. It makes me feel really hopeful about my ability to effectively parent. I jokingly asked Tanner last night if he wanted to name our son Frank.
And that’s all I’ve got! Off to a meeting. I hope it’s been a good Monday for y’all!
Highlight of your weekend?
Did you do any home improvement or gardening tasks over the weekend? Do you plant herbs? (Any tips for keeping cilantro alive!? Mine dies every year!)
I am getting back into gardening after years of living in small spaces – I’ve really overdone it, but nothing inspires healthy eating like food you’ve grown yourself! I recently read that cilantro just dies out faster than a lot of herbs and that the best way of dealing with it is to succession planting throughout the summer. Probably not what you want to hear with a new high maintenance family member on the way, but also nice to know that it’s characteristic of the plant and not a sign of a brown thumb 🙂 You look radiant – seems like grilled cheese is a necessary ingredient to a healthy body 😉
Hi Jen!
I plant cilantro every year and it is kind of finicky but I found that if you pinch it back it gets bushier. Also you can’t let it flower. Once it flowers it will seed and then you have coriander. I usually buy at least 2 plants because I use a lot of cilantro in cooking.
BTW.. You look great!
Nobody knows what they’re doing on the first child. Just relax and follow your instincts and don’t over analyze. You will be fine. You’re a smart girl and you have good common sense. And, most of all, you will love that baby with all your heart and that will be more than enough.
