Y’all…I don’t know what’s been up with me but I have been craving carbs something fierce over the last couple of weeks.
Tomato sandwiches…
Sliders…
Cookies…(and one AMAZING carrot cake whoopie pie from Whole Foods on Saturday night which I devoured it its entirety while watching Mad Men).
Grilled cheese with avocado and a fried egg and tomato soup on a rainy, cold day last weekend.
Lemon Chicken Bisque and a pork loin sandwich for lunch Monday.
Peanut butter, banana and honey for lunch today. This used to be a staple meal in my diet and I can’t tell you the last time I had one. I needed this kind of comfort food in a serious way today. It was the only thing that sounded appetizing for lunch.
I was all on this soup, smoothie and salad kick for a while. I am still enjoying all of those things but supplemented with CARBS. I strongly believe in intuitive eating. Despite what some of you may believe…generally I eat what I want. Sometimes I’m really in the mood to eat low-carb and pretty clean, sometimes I’m like “bring on the carbs and the desserts.” It all evens out in the end. All the work I do wouldn’t be worth it in a million years if I couldn’t have this outlook. Life is short…live (and eat and drink) well!!!
I couldn’t agree more! Our appetites change as well as our cravings due to change in workouts, seasons, or gosh knows what else may be occurring in our womanly bodies. HA! You just have to listen and feed it what it needs. PS: I’m doing a Erin McDermott giveaway thanks to you introducing us. ๐ Seriously considering getting the necklace she made for you!
100% agree with you on your food outlook! There are days when I want everything healthy (vegetables, sweet potatoes, all sorts of protein) but then days (ahem, PMS!) when I just want ice cream, bread, chocolate… I say if you can handle it, no one should judge! A lot of people ask me if I eat Paleo because I do CrossFit and my answer will always be the same: absolutely not. For my own sanity and just listening to what my body wants to eat. Eat all the carbs, Jen!! ๐
Now I REALLY want that grilled cheese with avocado and egg sandwich…
Lemon Chicken Bisque – that sounds wonderful! Love your posts!
What a great post! I too have the eat what you want outlook, even though that may not always come across. Most of the time, my body craves greens, fruits and clean eats… but I certainly leave room for treats when I’m feeling them. Even carbs!! Good for you for showcasing that. ๐
ok all your food looks amazing…but that Monday lunch with the sandwich and soup…SWOON
I like “Intuitive eating” – is that the same as the “see food” diet? ๐
Your meal photos are making me all sorts of ravenous – specially the peanut butter, honey banana one!
Me too on the carbs! I blame the gloomy weather. A salad alone sometimes won’t cut it!
As much as you work out I think eating carbs is beneficial. I don’t understand why they are looked at in such bad way honestly!!! Life is way too short to deprive yourself ๐
I unfortunately ALWAYS crave carbs!! Oh well they taste good, right?
Every sandwich looks SO, so good! I want to make that grilled cheese with fried egg and avocado. Great idea! I’m totally the same way…sometimes all I crave is to eat as clean as possible and other times there is no stopping with the carb and cookie cravings…it truly all does balance out ๐
I love your outlook and you look amazing, so keep it up!
Agreed! I have a touchy stomach, so often times things such as crackers, toast, even plain old Tostito chips, (carby foods), are all that sound appetizing! In the big picture..what does it really matter? As long as we aren’t eating garbage all day everyday, and staying as active as we can…that’s all we can do ๐ Great post.
I love your attitude on eating!!! I always have a hard time with eating healthy 100% and then I feel deprived and fall off the wagon. I just love food way too much to not eat what I want within moderation! You need to find a happy medium ๐ What’s life it’s you hate the food that fuels you ๐ Great post!!!
I love that attitude re: food! I’ll be sitting for the Registered Dietitian exam this fall and absolutely agree that our bodies tell us what they need, if we’re willing and able to listen carefully. I don’t advocate excluding ANY kind of food except in case of food allergies or other medical considerations. I love carbs! I wouldn’t be able to do all the running, biking, swimming, and lifting I do without them!
Thank you for this! The fad right now is low carb/paleo and it frustrates me. After many years of having an unhealthy relationship with food, I am trying to have a balanced and healthy view towards all food–carbs and all. It is refreshing and encouraging for me to see someone who’s fit and healthy and who enjoys all kinds of foods! Thank you!
