Greetings from Charleston, South Carolina! We arrived yesterday around 1 p.m. Brandon handled the driving responsibilities while I researched afternoon activities.
I discovered the fun of Internet browsing in the car by using Brandon’s Droid to connect his netbook. It’s prime oyster season in Charleston and Brandon’s only request was that we find somewhere to have steamed buckets.
All of my research paid off because we ended up finding an awesome oyster roast at Charleston Harbor Resort.
The weather down here is beautiful right now – warmer and sunnier than it’s been in Charlotte in weeks. We were so happy to spend the afternoon outside! We arrived a little early for the oyster roast so we walked down the boardwalk to take in the water.
That’s the city of Charleston across the harbor.
The USS Yorktown and Ravenel Bridge behind me. (Side note: has anyone ever done the Cooper River Bridge Run? Super fun 10K!)
And then it was time for oysters!
We got to shucking.
I love that you have to work for your food! 😉
We hung out for a while after we ate listening to the band and soaking up the sun.
We left in search of caffeine and stopped in a local coffee shop for a latte.
Feeling recharged, we headed towards Isle of Palms to check in to our room. The reason this overnight trip happened was because Brandon discovered a great deal on rooms at Wild Dunes Resort on Jetsetter a couple months ago and booked a room. (We booked our room for $75 – they usually go for double or triple that. Check out Jetsetter for awesome travel deals. Think Gilt for travel. This link will automatically give you a $25 credit if you book anything!) Luckily, it ended up being the only weekend in January that I don’t have yoga teacher training – perfect!
Brandon and I lived in Charleston for a year after college (before he went to law school) and my very first job out of college was at Wild Dunes in their marketing department. We love going back to Charleston to visit!
We were surprised to find that our room had been upgraded when we checked in. We were put in an ocean view suite! Awesome! We got up to our room just in time to catch the sunset.
Our dinner reservations weren’t until 9:15 so I had time to squeeze in a quick run before getting ready. I ran a speedy, brisk 3.5 miles on one of my all-time favorite running loops.
And here are a couple pictures of our room that I took this morning.
The bed was so comfortable! I slept great last night.
I will be back later tonight with part two of our trip – a fabulous dinner downtown and today’s activities. We’re in the car heading home right now!
love the bridge run! have done it every year but two for the last 10…plan on it this year again! actually getting ready to head out now on this first sunny, snow/ice free, 40+ degree day in over a month…
Charleston looks beautiful! And I’m so jealous of that weather!
I live in Mt. P, and my house is basically on the starting line for the Bridge Run, so it’s my favorite race of the year… when else do you get to have 40,000 people walk by your house! 🙂 Glad you enjoyed your trip; looks like a blast!
Glad you made it safely!
What a perfect little weekend getaway in the midst of teacher training. It looked like a beautiful place. My boyfriend keeps telling me that we are better suited to live in the Carolinas. I am beginning to agree 🙂
Great pictures! I’m glad yall are having some nice r&r!
That is definitely where my cousin had her reception. It was a great hotel and fun location. I heart Charleston and have been many times vacationing with my family and running the Cooper River Bridge run. Glad you had a nice weekend!
What a wonderful weekend! I’ve stayed at Wild Dunes before. It’s so pretty. I had no idea you used to work there!
That warm weather looks awesome right now. It’s just too cold up here in MA. I’m looking forward to my trip to Vegas in a couple of weeks. 🙂
Jenn! Great to see you having fun in Charleston. If you’re still here, stop by. Would love to see you!
Beautiful pictures of you with the sunset behind you! Not trying to be creepy just a very nice picture 🙂
Thank you, Cole!!!
