Recently I had the opportunity to combine two of the things that I love the most…
Green smoothies…
And peanut butter. Not just any peanut butter but the new Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter from Smart Balance. I received an email asking if I would be interested in sampling their new Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter and developing a recipe with it. Of course I responded yes to that!
I developed two recipes using the dark chocolate peanut butter and the team at Smart Balance chose this smoothie for me to share with you. It’s perfect timing because I’ve been receiving tons of requests lately for a “base” green smoothie recipe.
I kept this recipe very simple to highlight the chocolate peanut butter flavor and to keep the color green. If you’d like to mix it up you could definitely add berries or other fruits like and switch out the chocolate peanut butter for another variety of nut butter.
This smoothie is perfect for breakfast, an afternoon snack or post-workout recovery. Enjoy!

*Disclaimer: Smart Balance provided me with the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter but I received no compensation for this post. Recipe and thoughts are all mine!
I love green smoothies!! I haven’t made them in a while, but this sounds so good. I might have to pick up some of that Smart Balance!
This looks great and interesting with the peanut butter combo! Thank you for posting this Jen.
Looks so good! What do you recommend using instead of spinach that would have as many health benefits as spinach…..kale? My stomach, for some odd reason, cannot handle spinach.
any green…kale, chard, baby kale can be nice…or omit the green all together. kale can have a pretty strong taste which is why i prefer the baby kale sometimes.
This looks so delicious! I am going to have to try this out sometime this week. I don’t have the dark chocolate version, but regular PB seems like it would be just as delicious!
Yum chocolate and peanut butter smoothies are the best – even if they are green!
Yum! I make almost this exact same smoothie for post-workout fuel sometimes, except with regular peanut butter. Adding chocolate is genius 🙂
That looks awesome! I’m not a fan of nutella but this looks like my cup of tea!
lauren – it’s actually totally different than nutella. nutella is made with hazelnuts and this is made from peanuts and tastes like chocolate peanut butter. it’s yummy!
Delish!! 🙂
I love simple ingredient smoothies and this one is fabulous. I’ve been on a smoothie tear as well. They’ve been so refreshing on these warm Texas days. 🙂
YUM! After the Whole30 I cannot WAIT to bring smoothies back into my life.
Do you have any preferences when it comes to protein powders for your smoothies? There are so many….
i have been using raw organic whey for the last year or so.
