Don’t judge. I’m currently blogging from bed and it’s only 6 p.m. For the past few nights I’ve only been averaging 5ish hours of sleep and that’s just not cutting it. I was hoping to take a nap but Brandon came home and then I got to chatting with him. Regardless, it feels good just to relax. I do have to make myself get up in a few to teach an evening yoga class. I have a really hard time slowing down and resting in the middle of the day but today I had to make it happen because I’m not feeling 100%.
I am struggling a bit to fit in time to sleep. And sleep is pretty crucial to good health. I have a hard time going to bed early…it always seems like we’re heading to bed around 11 and my schedule requires me to be up anytime between 4:30 and 6 a.m almost every day of the week. I really need to figure this out and make rest a priority.
Well, this was not the topic I intended to blog so switching gears.
I had a training client this morning and then ate this Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Hungry Bar from my stash from Emily on the way to yoga. I loved this flavor!ย I took the 8:10 and then taught the 9:15. Love teaching those ladies. They are game for anything I throw at them! Today we did lots of crow and chaturanga pushups.
After class Alaina and I had a lunch date planned at Amelie’s. It was on her “must visit while in Charlotte” list and who am I to argue with French pastries?
Luckily, Amelie’s also serves food so we behaved and ordered lunch before dessert. Although I think I would have been just as happy making lunch out of sweets! ๐
I went with a cup of spinach, asparagus and leek soup with crusty baguette for dipping.
Then it was time for the main event. So much deliciousness…how to choose? I ended up going with the strawberry cream cheese croissant and took two salted caramel brownies to go. I promised Brandon.
We enjoyed pastries and coffee on the patio. It has been such a beautiful day in Charlotte. While we were eating, we got on the topic of chocolate- v. fruit-based desserts. We both agreed that we’re in the fruity camp. Brandon, on the other hand, is a chocolate guy – chocolate croissants, brownies, chocolate mousse.
Chocolaty or fruity? Which side are you on?
I totally feel you on the lack of sleep! Recently I have been SO bad at it, and sleep has been at the bottom of my list of priorities! Well you’ve inspired me- I’m off to bed right now! ๐
I am a chocolaty person all the way. Your salty caramel brownie is calling to me ๐
Chocolate. SO easyyyy.
no brainer….chocolate. all. the. way!
I am totally with you on the sleep! I need to start going to bed earlier as well!
I am a chocolate lover! I’d love one of those brownies right now! Hope you get some rest tonight.
I’m actually neither! I prefer peanut butter, brown sugar, etc. I love texture too — oats, coconut, mmmmm!
oohhh interesting! you are different in that! oatmeal raisin is my favorite flavor of cookies!
Yeah fruity pastries!! That is such a great picture of us! I am stealing it. ๐
I had such a great time with you!! Definitely let me know if you plan on coming up to Boston.
yay! you are more than welcome to take any of my photos. so glad you came down!
Girl you need to get your sleep. I can’t function off anything less than 7 hours. My yoga instructor had us practice crow and side crow on Monday. I am determined to be able to do it and I have added it to the goal list of things I’d like to accomplish. Any advice on how to get it down?
To answer your question, chocolate all the way!
i do need to sleep more. in general, i function fine on 5-6 hours a night but i know it’s not optimal for health and stress levels. my husband on the other hand requires at least 7, preferably 8-9 hours of sleep a night. i think i’m just too high strung!
YAY for your crow goal. practice it with a block under your toes to get the feeling of the lift while having the support of the block. play with lifting one leg and then the other. most important thing for crow is getting your knees up on your triceps and really lifting your booty up in the air – pulling up through the abs.
for side crow it’s bending your elbows enough to make a shelf for you knees to rest on.
let me know if you have any questions! ๐
My husband and I are opposite. I am a total chocolate lover while he will pick a fruit based dessert any day over a chocolate based dessert. My wedding cake was dark chocolate w/ chocolate chips in the mix. His grooms cake was white cake with pineapple filling. I thought his was absolutely awful but he loved it! ha!
mmm…i think your husband’s cake sounds delish! ๐
I think I’m more of a chocolate girl ๐ But sometimes I am in the mood for fruity! I love anything with fruit.
Fruity!
And on an unrelated note… Do you know any yoga studios that offer childcare? I’m itching to get back to yoga, but it seems like my only option is going to be the y. Thoughts?
Hi Jen, I have a question…is that a Kombucha drink in your hand in the pic? I have wanted to try these, but am hesitant. Any benefits to drinking them and what are your favorite flavors?
it is kombucha. i wouldn’t say that they are a “miracle drink” but they do have electrolytes and are supposed to be detoxifying. who knows. i like it! my favorite brand is synergy and i like gingerberry, gingerade, cosmic cranberry and strawberry serenity.
Chocolate, hands down! Although, that strawberry crisp you made this summer was amazing…hard choice!
I just may have to give these a shot. ๐
And to answer your question…I’m totally a chocolate girl!
Chocolate!!! For sure! Love the fruity, too- really love all desserts. Huge sweet tooth. ๐ But chocolate reigns supreme!
I can relate to the sleep issue- I must get up at 445 M-F to workout. I have to be in bed by 930 most nights to feel ok! I can go a few later here and there, but too many in a row add up and I get run down. Between 9-930 is important!
I don’t know you do it on such a small amount of sleep! I am up at 4:15am to work out and if I’m not in bed by 9, I can’t function the next day!!!
FRUITY desserts!!!
I am in the chocolate group all the way!
Been reading your blog for a while and really enjoy it:) Added your fall circuit in to my workout routine – I feel like i’ve had a total body workout whenever i do it and love how I can do it at home in a small space. Really needed it to spice up my workouts.
Chocolate desserts over fruity ones any day!!!
