Hello friends. I am currently a puddle on my couch after a long weekend of travel and work. I spent the weekend in Tennessee at VIDA Hot Yoga to lead our fourth weekend of yoga teacher training. Overall, it was an incredible weekend but they are so very “all in” and exhausting. I felt this way about TT when I was in it as a trainee and I also feel it as a leader. It’s a lot…but a good lot!
I was so happy to get to spend Friday morning with Finn before I left. It was a training day for the teachers at preschool so I got to keep him home with me. He was a huge help in getting packed and ready, especially with laundry. ๐
We took a morning walk with a few jogging intervals (mostly to warm up as it was windy and chilly). It was just what I needed before sitting in the car all afternoon, and just what Zoey needed to get some exercise.
I left around 1p. I stopped at The Dripolator in Black Mountain to break up my drive, caffeinate and get some treats. I got a whole milk latte, zucchini bread and carrot cake.
The fall colors were lovely on my drive through the mountains to Kingsport. I arrived at the studio around 5:30p on Friday to kick off our training weekend.
My evening ended in my hotel room with Panera.
And watching Succession on my computer. I am equal parts appalled by and addicted to this show. I barely made it through the first few episodes but I’m sticking with it and sucked in. Everyone tells me to hang in and that season 2 is really over the top. I really like crazy family dramas when it comes to books, movies and TV.
Saturday was a FULL day of TT that ended with a fundraising event to support a non-profit that some of my trainees from last year’s training started.
From their website…“cOMmunity collective (CC) is a not-for-profit charitable organization that identifies at-risk populations that have little or no access to yoga. These at-risk populations will gain knowledge of yoga as a tool for dealing with emotional stress and physical well-being. CC works with yoga instructors and studios, local community leaders, schools, and other facilities to empower individuals through yoga practice and philosophy.”
cOMunnity collective hosted their first gala fundraising event and the theme was “Levi’s, Leggings and Lace” themed.
I was honored that they included my yoga book + entry to a three-part workshop series I am leading at VIDA in the silent auction! ๐
Once I arrived I loaded up a big plate of food. (Priorities after a long training day!)
And then enjoyed hanging out and chatting. Here are some of my beautiful TTs from this year’s training! Love these ladies very much. They are working HARD!
Sunday started at 8a and we did a practice led by the trainees followed by book discussion, documentary viewing, assist training and more. We wrapped early but it took me FOREVER to get home due to hitting an accident in the mountains that meant having to turn around and navigate mountain roads with no cell service and no GPS. This has never happened before and I was a little stressed. Thank goodness, I was able to figure out a way to I-40 and home, albeit a little later that planned. I just kept thinking to myself how grateful I was that I was safe and not involved in an accident. The delay was not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.
I came home to find that this little guy has a runny nose and a cough. He doesn’t have preschool again tomorrow due to the Veteran’s Day holiday so we will lay low, rest and snuggle a lot.
I whipped up a quick noodle dish for dinner with spaghetti pasta, tofu, a peanut butter sauce, green onions, ginger, mushrooms and more. It was pretty good (but not quite blog-worthy!). The recipe was inspired by this one in Real Simple.
I am so, so ready to go get in my bed, read and sleep!
Does your work schedule require weekend work? If so, how do you make up for the weekend/take time off at other times during the week?ย
What’s your toddler/kid’s favorite household chore to “help” with?ย
I’m fortunate to not have to do much weekend work for my job. Occasionally I will have to write our weekly update for our newsletter that goes out on Mondays but my coworker does it most of the time since he doesn’t have young kids. If I have to do it, I do it during our son’s nap as it’s impossible to get anything done when he is awake! My job has very traditional hours as I work in finance/asset mgmt. I’m at work from 7:30-4 pm and there’s an expectation that you will keep an eye on emails after work in case something comes up.
Our son loves to ‘help’ with laundry too. He loves to grab/unfold clothes that we have just folded so I try not to do this task unless he’s sleeping or playing well with his toys. One helpful thing he does is put his clothes/pjs in the hamper in his room. He usually doesn’t want to go upstairs to bed each night so I will say, “do you want to go put your clothes in the hamper?” and that will get him to go upstairs. Maybe I have a type-A kid in the making. ๐ He also loves to come into our room and put daddy’s clothes in the hamper.
