When people ask me if I’m into photography I explain to them that it’s not a “passion” exactly but I take pictures every single day. So by default of doing it so much and wanting my photographs to look nice, I have kind of gotten into it. I’m not motivated to go out and take a class or spend time just playing around with my camera but I do want to take better pictures and keep improving my knowledge and skills around photography. Does that make any sense at all?
I have had a 50 mm lens for my Nikon D3100 on my wish list for quite a while. Yesterday I decided to quit wishing and treat myself. I got the Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.8g.
“This updated classic with a fast maximum aperture is ideal for everyday shooting, perfect in low lighting situations and great for producing images with beautiful background blur (Bokeh). The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G includes Silent Wave Motor technology (SWM) for fast and precise autofocus, M/A Focus Mode Switch for seamless changes between manual and autofocus operation and an aspherical lens element for outstanding optical performance with high contrast.“
I have a lot of photo-worthy events coming up in the coming weeks so the timing was perfect. Once I made the decision to buy the lens, I couldn’t even wait for it to be shipped and delivered so I did the buy online, in store pick up thing from Best Buy. I can’t wait to play with my new lens! It’s definitely giving me a little incentive to spend more time on my photography.
Do you enjoy photography? And what’s your favorite lens to shoot with?
In other news…
I drank some juice that tasted like dirt yesterday morning. Carrot, kale and ginger. Sounds appetizing, was not appetizing. At least Sullie is cute in the background.
Tuesday’s WOD was awesome – “Running Elizabeth!” Cleans are one of my very favorite movements and I always love running WODs. Our strength work before the WOD was 5 sets of 5 deficit deadlifts. I can’t tell you the last time I deadlifted (not my favorite movement!) so I was proud that I worked up to 115 and felt really good about my form.
It’s been late nights at the gym this week so meals have been more assembly than cooking. Last night I made a great burrito bowl with cilantro-lime rice, black beans, slaw, rotisserie tequila lime chicken from Whole Foods, avocado, sour cream and salsa. I wish you could see all of the layers in the photograph.
And packed lunch today was another bowl combination but this one was much different than last night’s. I started with a bed of power greens (baby kale, chard and spinach) and then topped it with lentils and quinoa that were tossed with tomatoes, olives, avocado and red wine vinegar, sauteed tofu, goat cheese, spinach and artichoke hummus and sour cream.
Have a great day!
Love the nifty fifty! I have the 1.4 but if this is your first prime lens I am sure you will love it! Such better depth of field than the kit lens. Once I got used to the focal length, I hardly ever take my 50mm off of my camera.
No BEETS in that smoothie/juice concoction? I always think beets have an “earthy” (aka DIRT) flavor. Doesn’t sound very good– definitely NOT a do-over?
Your bowls look so good! I’ll have to make one soon…
How did you decide on that lens? So exciting! I take a billion pictures but wish I knew more about what I was doing 🙂
Love your description. I’ve definitely had juice that tasted like dirt! And smoothies too! Those are the worst.
Nom Nom! As I start trying to clean out my cupboards, rice bowls are a great way for me to use up my brown rice. Only a few weeks left, and it’s time to start getting creative in the kitchen. 🙂
way to go for it!! Can’t wait to see the pics you take with it. 🙂
That juice sounds good but I trust you that it was not appetizing. I love getting carrot, beet, ginger juice! My fave combo. I really do enjoy photography and I have a nice camera but I have yet to really learn how to be good at it. I tend to just resort to using my iPhone most of the time. A goal of mine is to take a photography class at some point!
Cannot wait to see the pictures you take with your new purchase – congrats!
I love all the veggies you eat and how you pack so many different things into one bowl..
how many times a week do you grocery shop to keep so much fresh veggies and varieties in stock without going bad and to waste?
I actually went through a couple of photography passion phases…they come and go.. I treated myself to my first DSLR a couple of years ago for Christmas, and promptly put it on a shelf for a whole year. An upcoming trip to Costa Rica inspired me to take a class at the local community college which re-ignited my passion, and I took great pics in CR. I haven’t used it much since then until a few weekends ago. I have thought for a while now that I needed/wanted a new lens (I’m actually using old lenses from a non-digital SLR I had before – they work!) but haven’t bitten the bullet. You may have just inspired me! Thanks!!
Congratulations on your new camera lens! It will add a great deal to your everyday photos as well as those that you use online. Truthfully, I am in total awe of your Nikon D3 100 camera and that 50mm lens! To answer your question, I do love photography and consider myself a good photographer, but lack really cool equipment like yours! My camera is an older Nikon with a basic lens, but for now it does the job. I really love taking photographs of children and dogs. Thanks for the information about the Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.8g lens, I will definitely be adding that to my wish list!
