– The only workout I feel like doing or can get excited about is yoga. I need it in a bad way right now. I’ve done one strength workout in 2 weeks. Running requires extreme amounts of mental motivation. I did it on vacation because it was my only choice but other than that…nada.
– Smoothies are serving as the perfect breakfast and/or lunch. Appetite is all kinds of way off but that’s most likely due to stress.
– Sullie and I are both completely over the weather. We have had thunderstorms every single day for weeks with no relief in site. I actually got dressed for a run/walk with Sullie today. We opened the door and it started pouring. Sullie was even more bummed than I was. I had to drag her back in.
– Hot and humid weather is making me crave salad, salad and more salad. Although I think fish tacos are in order this week as well.
– I am teetering on that fine line between going crazy and wanting to crawl into a hole and hide and embracing all the challenges in front of me and coming out on the other side stronger. Let’s hope the strong side wins out or else you may find me in the Caribbean shoeless, tan and opening a yoga studio. That actually sounds pretty amazing…;)
Now, some weekend photos. I don’t have anything particularly exciting to share given that it was mostly work and teaching yoga.
I went to Wolfgang Puck Pizza Bar on Friday night where I had one of the best appetizers probably ever. I will be returning just to eat this perfect dish of thinly sliced prosciutto, burrata cheese, grilled bread, arugula and cantaloupe. I predict that in the future I will frequently suggest this app + wine as a happy hour destination.
Baby kale salad with pine nuts, pickled onions, cheese and a lemon vinaigrette.
Asparagus with breadcrumbs, aioli and topped with a fried egg. Anything topped with a fried egg is a winner in my book.
Salad with mixed greens, avocado, dried cranberries, goat cheese, pecans and shrimp with balsamic vinaigrette.
Tea tag. And yes, please.
I was soooooo over my playlists so I got up early before my Sunday morning yoga class to download a lot of new music. I highly, highly recommend many of these songs. Bonus: Ellie Goulding has a new single!!!!
Sunday night salad extravaganza.
And that’s all I’ve got for ya. What’s going on with you currently? What foods are you into? What workouts are feeling good?
pretty sure there are going to be several smoothies in my near future. temps in dallas have turned to summer for real again. just started training for a marathon so I have a wonderful mix of running, yoga, and strength. love it!
My favorite workouts lately? Long bike rides on the San Francisco bay!
that sounds amazing!
Ooooh wow! That last salad looks amazing! I see avocado, tomato, mushrooms and chicken (I think). What else is in it? I may have to copycat the recipe!
mixed greens, chicken, avocado, goat cheese, pecans, dried cranberries, tomatoes, mushrooms and balsamic dressing. i’m on such a salad kick right now.
I’m totally going for it, it sounds so good! Thanks 🙂
I can so totally relate to your feelings. I’m also in the midst of shedding, renewing, letting go, reworking, basically wiping my slate clean. I have to tell you, it’s scary as hell and I sometimes feel like I’m going out of control. I’m finding it SO hard to get my workout motivation going these days, and all I can do is to do what I can, and be kind to myself instead of being disappointed. Reading about what you’re going through lets me know that I’m not alone. Thank you, Jen.
michele – thank you for commenting. it is a scary place to be in but you have to look for the excitement too that things are changing and you are growing or flowing in a new direction. i hope you find some peace soon.
Hope everything is going alright! Sounds like you’re coping well though and doing what you can to stay mentally calm. Everything happens for a reason and things will always turn out as they should 🙂 In the meantime, I completely understand doing a lot of yoga. Always helps me too!
yes, i’m okay just a lot of evaluation and planning going on right now. yoga helps me sort out all the things in my head.
LOVE Ellie G! So thanks for the new single heads up!
I have been having a bit of a mental barrier as well this past week with getting solid workouts in… i have really had to be creative and “trick” myself in order to get ‘er done. Yoga has been great!! I am very tight right now ha… but I think it is the weather in general! So depressing and rainy!! where did summer go??
i love her too! she’s my fave.
and i know…it’s hard to get motivated to do anything with this gray rainy weather!
I definitely went through a phase where all I could handle was yoga. It’ll pass- just try to embrace it! Stress is a bitch. I’m sorry 🙁
Xo
I would return solely for that appetizer as well…YUM. And we are having terrible weather as well- I can’t even remember the last time it wasn’t raining!
The only workout I can get excited about lately is Bar Method. I feel like the repetitiveness calms me and I like that I pretty much know what to expect. Salads & grilled food are all I want to eat these days!
i’ve never tried a barre class. i need to get on that!
I’m with you on the fried egg making everything better. Oh, and also on the yoga. I’m going with it, because yoga rules! xo
I’ve been loving salads as well. Yours looks delicious!
Cycling has been making me feel really good. I’m training for a half marathon, but cross training with cycling has been making me feel stronger and more injury-free. And it’s nice to have the breeze on these hot, humid days. 🙂
I love when you upload pics of your playlists. I download new music a few times a week and am always looking for new stuff! Love Ellie Goulding.
yay! glad you like the playlists. i love keeping my music fresh and finding new stuff. and ellie is my FAVE!
That looks like the perfect playlist for summer plane trips! I’m definitely going to be adding a bunch of those songs. 🙂 Thanks!
The salad with mixed greens, shrimp, dried cranberries, etc. looks fantastic!! I could eat it right now for breakfast! I’ve been mixing some basic yoga with planks during the 3 weeks I’ve been unable to run. Today is Day 1 back out on the road 🙂 I cannot wait!!
so happy to hear you’re back on the road! i hope that running has gone well this week!
Jen,
Your words/blog comfort me..I am also in a boat of letting go, moving on and keeping up the courage to trust myself (and that inner voice that says “keep going”). In a lot of ways I think yoga has saved me…It’s the one workout where I can’t think about my problems or my grocery list or anything else, but being present- or else I loose balance. And when the class is over, I am lighter.
Thank you for sharing ~
dana – thank you so much for taking the time to comment. i’m so happy that i’ve been able to provide any kind of help to you during your time of transition. and i agree…yoga is so good for making it through these times. it’s so nice to let go and not think.
Oh, those apps from WP look great. I used to work for him back in California and have always loved his food. We just had a kale caesar salad at Upstream the other night. Really good!
I so know how you feel. Life is full of so many highs and lows and sometimes it’s a balancing act to stay focused and keep your emotions in check. It seems to make sense that your mat is where you are feeling strongest and most centered. I’ve been going to Y2 once a week, Kharma class, and just sweating it all out is so cleansing and a way to renew and regain that balance. The best thing you can do is get still and listen.
that’s so cool that you used to work for him!
i’m really happy to hear that you’ve been making it to y2 and benefitting from your practice. it feels so good to sweat and renew.
It is hard to want to workout with this horrible humidity. This weather seriously needs to improve!
i know! it’s TERRIBLE!
After being on the road and out of sorts for the past week, I am craving lifting weights and getting my strength back. I’ve been doing a lot of running, because it’s the easiest thing to do when in a new place. I just got back from a yoga studio that I’m going to try out. 30 days for $30 unlimited. Not too shabby! I hope the sun comes out soon…it’s cloudy and rainy in Houston too.
i’m sure you are! running is always my default workout to. so easy to do wherever you are. i’m so excited for you! hope the yoga is going well.
loving circuits+sprints! and that salad looks amazzzzing.
Your food all looks so good!
I was recently in one of those holes, finally starting to crawl out this month. I guess they sometimes happen when we’re transfiguring parts of our lives. In retrospect I can’t work out quite what the problem was, only that it’s dissipated now and I’m ready to move on. I hope you feel the freedom again soon too – though your alternative sounds pretty fantastic to me – what a back up ;)))
& thank you for sharing your yoga playlist, I love the inspiration. Mine is still very heavy with AA Bondy, though I have recently been yoga-ing to Rising Appalachia & The Human Experience – Soul Visions – that I found on Bandcamp.
emily – thanks for sharing that you went through a rough patch too. and isn’t it funny how sometimes you can’t even pinpoint what it is but it’s something? glad you enjoyed the playlist. i’ll have to check out some that you listed.
Keep your chin UP!! 🙂
I always love when you post your playlists- I get so sick of mine and never know the best way to find new music. Thank you!
you’re welcome! glad you enjoy!
Can I just say how obsessed I am with Love Somebody by Maroon 5?
If you have not watched the video, do it now.
oh my gosh! i had not seen that video. so cool. thanks for telling me about it!
