Happy Friday! Happy Friday! Happy Friday!
I’ve got two big reasons to be happy today.
1) I turned in the FINAL draft of my book yesterday!
2) I’m celebrating with a trip to the beach to visit my parents. Flying out at 6 a.m. Saturday and can’t wait!
So I thought I would do a little “Day in the life Thursday” post for you because yesterday was all over the board and a good example of what things can be like working in the fitness industry.
5 a.m. – alarm goes off and I roll out of bed and head to the bathroom where I realize that I accidentally set my alarm for 5 out of habit because I usually have a 5:30 a.m. client on Thursday. He is out of town and my first client isn’t until 6:30 a.m. I go back to bed but it takes me 20 minutes or so to fall asleep.
5:55 a.m. – alarm goes off again and I am so sleepy. I will myself out of bed and back to the bathroom where I check my phone and see that my 6:30 a.m. client sent a text around midnight to cancel because she came down with a stomach bug. At this point even though I’m sleepy I decide to stay up and start working.
I spent the next hour starting on the dumbbell superset workout post. In that hour I got all of the photos edited and the workout graphic done. During this time I get a text from my 8:30 a.m. yoga private letting me know that he needs to push our session until later in the day. We text back and forth about times but end up never meeting because we couldn’t coordinate schedules.
7:20 a.m. – head to the gym to train my 7:30 a.m. client. We have a great session!
8:45 a.m. – back home for breakfast and finishing the dumbbell superset post.
It’s the first day after the end of Green Smoothie April so I celebrate with some overnight oats. Honestly, I was craving a smoothie more than anything else but these were good. I worked on the blog post while I ate and it took me another 45 minutes or so to actually write the post and get it published.
10 a.m. – head back to the gym to meet a friend for a run
I don’t remember the last time that I ran with a friend and it was so enjoyable to have someone to chat with. It was a beautiful day for a run and we knocked out 5 miles.
11:30 a.m. – Hallmark for a little Mother’s Day card shopping
12 p.m. – home to shower and make lunch
Lunch was a kale salad with avocado, tomatoes, almonds, queso fresco, dried cranberries and a Hilary’s Eat Well Adzuki Bean Burger. I made a tahini dressing for it. I bought this huge bag of kale salad mix at the farmers market so I’ve been eating it every day for lunch. I feel like kale salad is pretty intense and it takes me a while to get through it. I stay full all afternoon after eating it….a lot for the digestive system to work through! I like kale but I can’t say it’s my favorite salad green ever. I like it better as part of a mix of greens if I’m going to eat it raw.
1 p.m. – hit the computer to catch up on Metro work in prep for our weekly management team meeting and to work on putting the final touches on my book manuscript.
2:15 p.m. – third trip of the day to the gym for our management team meeting. We have this every Thursday afternoon.
3:45 p.m. – back home to finish up my book and send it off to my editor. I eat an apple while I work on it.
4:30 p.m. – FINAL DRAFT SENT!!!
4:45 – 5:30 p.m. – spend 45 minutes cleaning around the house. I do laundry, vacuum and change the sheets. A very productive quick cleaning spree. I try to do this daily to stay on top of things…otherwise it’s an overwhelming weekend task.
5:35 p.m. – head to the yoga studio to teach. I have to leave extra early on Thursdays because of rush hour traffic.
6-7 p.m. – teach a power mixed yoga class at Y2 Yoga. I have 40 yogis in class!
7:15 p.m. – after I clean the room I stay to make a quick Instagram video to support my friends who are doing a May #defygravityyogi Challenge. The pose for the first day was Warrior III and I need to straighten my leg a bit more in my WIII. Lazy yogi. 😉
7:45 p.m. – home to shower and make dinner.
After I get showered and into comfy clothes I enjoy a glass of prosecco to celebrate the book being DONE! I work on dinner and snack on cheese and crackers while I cook.
8:45 p.m. – eat dinner.
Dinner was a panko crusted chicken breast over spinach gnocchi with truffle oil and served with sauteed mushrooms and broccolini.
9 p.m. – start a movie. All I want to do is decompress on the couch and not think about any other work or blog stuff.
I watch the movie Gimme Shelter with Vanessa Hudgens, Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser and James Earl Jones. It’s based on a true story but the movie is just okay. It’s heavy and hard to watch at times. I cry my eyes out for the last 10 minutes of the movie through the credits. Has anyone else seen it?
10:45 p.m. BED!
I saw where you are heading south to visit your parents. On Sunday if you want to take a GREAT yoga class I HIGHLY recommend Balance Health Studio on 30a. Kelli James Precourt is the owner and teacher for “spicy” Vinyassa . She is amazing! Please tell her Pam Leverette said hello. I think class starts at 9. You can check their website. I got my 200 hour YTT from Balance!
pam – thanks so much for the suggestion but we’re about an hour drive from there so i probably won’t be able to swing it. will be self-led ashtanga for me! 🙂
i do want to try to get to the studio on one of my visits!
It’s a good thing your flexible (both physically and time wise ha)! Do you normally not need to eat anything before you teach or workout in the morning? I would be STARVING by then!
you’re!!***
i usually have hot lemon water before i train my 5:30/6:30 clients and then eat when i get home around 7:30-8:30. in general i never workout early in the AM…not my favorite! 🙂
CONGRATS on the book and have a beautiful weekend at the beach! I hope you are going to disconnect for a little bit and enjoy the wonderful time with your family. Safe travels…XOXO
I love reading your day in the life posts. I hope you live fairly close to gym, making 3 trips in a day.
Are you ever non-productive? Lol!
yep! just 1.5 miles/about 5 minutes away. SUPER convenient.
and yes, i plan on being non-productive for the next three days at the beach!
Wow, your days are always so busy!! That’s great that you still prepare a nice, healthy dinner even after a long day! 🙂
Congrats on the book!!!
it’s my most favorite way to unwind!
Congratulations on the book, that must have felt great to turn it in! Enjoy your weekend at the beach.
You look so cute curled up on the couch!! 🙂 and HUGE CONGRATS on the book!!!! Xoxoxo
Thanks so much for sharing this day! Honestly, you inspire me to see more possibilities in my day to do things I love! xoxo
That panko chicken dinner looks amazing! Btw, I did that dumbbell workout yesterday. Thank you, it was awesome!!
yay! thanks for trying it out!
Can’t wait for the book! I have a question for you. I have noticed you are a very clean eater. I am starting an online training program and the trainer is suggesting I go straight paleo. I am wondering what you think of paleo. I don’t mind thr clean eating, but I love my dairy! What are your thoughts?
Yum that chicken looks delicious! I really need more people to run with – i think that would make some of my runs go so much better! Hopefully when we move I can find a running group!
What a productive day! So glad you get to unwind with family for a few days : )
Your day sounds wonderful! Congrats on the book!
Congrats on finishing the book 😀 I always enjoy these Day in the Life posts.
thank you! and i’ll keep doing them from time-to-time. i try to do them when my days are varied!
So busy, my head is Spinning. So much congratulations
On your book . I can’t wait to read
It. I love the food too . More vegetables in season now.
It’s easier to eat healthier during spring and summer .
I never told you that my sister lives
In Charlotte . She is a flight attendant. Have a wonderful weekend .
i agree with the veggie inspiration being so much better spring/summer. i usually OVER buy at the market and have to eat them non-stop so they don’t go to waste. fun that your sister lives here. we have a great little airport that’s easy to get in and out of!
I love your blog! You have a great mix of posts an i feel like you come across as honest and have a great all things in moderation attitude. I love that u share both healthy dinner and indulgent desserts, lazy days and super productive ones, days when u seem happy and “perfect, and days when you seem to have struggles like everyone else ! I think thats great! Do you have any favorite blogs you follow that you would recommend that employ this same philosophy? Im asking because im trying to find more realistic healthy blogs to follow as sometimes i find myself feeling a bit bad or down on myself when im online and i think its a product of following people who might be less than genuine or honest with their online personna. I know this sounds random but id love your thoughts on this!
Do you always eat dinner that late at night? I’m asking because I am always starving when I get home at 5 p.m.! I am probably not doing a good job eating filling things during the day though – what is the best healthiest snacks that get you through the day until dinner? Sometimes I have to work evenings too (I’m a journalist who has to cover public meetings), but I usually try to grab something beforehand or I will go crazy.
Congratulations on your book! How exciting. Your dinner looks amazing, did you make it all?
