We just arrived back in Charlotte from our weekend in DC. I’m going to cover the rest of the trip in two separate updates. This one will be Friday night dinner and Saturday pre-wedding. The next update will be the wedding and our travels home today. Be sure to check out my day one recap here.
After a day of site seeing and museum stops, we dropped by the W to pick up our luggage and hopped on the Metro to our next hotel. We arrived at the Omni Shoreham early Friday evening. We had grand plans of exploring the neighborhood and stopping to get happy hour somewhere but once we checked into our room I collapsed on the bed and couldn’t move. Between our run and site seeing, I think we covered about 10 miles on foot Friday.
I broke out Brandon’s netbook and got to work updating my blog and my sweet husband took off in search of food and drinks. He arrived back at the hotel with a six pack of a local pale ale, a bottle of champagne, brie and crackers. So nice! I drank a beer and nibbled on some cheese and crackers while I worked on the computer. After I published my blog update I was itching for a yoga stretch and a hot shower. I spread a towel out on the floor, put some relaxing music on the iPod and spent about 20 minutes in my favorite yoga poses.
I felt a million times better after the stretch and shower. We had late dinner reservations at Indique with our friends Lee and Ashley (who had just arrived in DC for the wedding).
Dave and Erin (the couple getting married) suggested this restaurant on their wedding website. Brandon and I started out with Mini Oothapam.
A mini savory pancake made with ground lentils, rice and spiced chicken served with assorted chutneys.
At the suggestion of our server, I ordered Vegetable Jhalfrezi for my entree.
It was spiced assorted mixed vegetables. Served with basmati rice and I had whole wheat roti on the side. Delicious and full of fresh mixed veggies.
We met up with the wedding party for a while after dinner. I finally collapsed into bed around 1 a.m.
I woke up around 8:30 a.m. Saturday and decided to go on another site seeing run in our new hood. My run took me past the National Cathedral, by the Vice President’s house and down Embassy Row.
I got a shot of the National Cathedral on my BlackBerry. It was beautiful and breathtaking. I ended up covering 5 miles on my run. I was hoping to get a few more miles in but it was very hot and we had brunch plans.
I had coffee, a banana and half of a Carrot Cake Larabar when I got back from my run.
We met Lee and Ashley at Open City for brunch.
I started out with a vodka-less bloody mary.
It was so refreshing and totally hit the spot. I ordered a simple egg sandwich.
Eggs and sharp white cheddar on an English muffin. Fruit on the side. After brunch I was majorly craving frozen yogurt but sadly our server informed us there was nothing close. Instead, I drug Brandon to Baskin Robbins.
I had one scoop of Pralines and Cream. Don’t even remember the last time I went to Baskin Robbins but it was delicious!
Next up is the wedding recap. It was a fun wedding with awesome people and great food! 😀
Stay tuned…I’m heading to the yoga studio to sweat out my weekend on my mat but I’ll be back with the details soon!
Sounds like you had a fabulous trip!! I LOVE DC! B and I went last fall just before it got cold. So beautiful!
I seee that lara bar 🙂 i absolutely love lara bars. but mostly homemade lara bars! my sister has been making them with our food processor and they taste 10 times sweeter, gooey and scrumptious chopped up in my morning oatmeal. it’s to die for!
