I’m so happy to see the arrival of the weekend. It’s been a crazy week. I’m actually taking the weekend off and heading down to Georgia to visit my grandmother. I haven’t seen her since Thanksgiving and we still need to do our Christmas celebration!
Yesterday’s overnight oats were so good I had to repeat them again this morning. Same exact mix as the previous day. I have really missed this breakfast!
I grabbed lunch from Energy Cafebetween teaching a yoga class and a yoga private at Charlotte Athletic Club. I had half of the power packed chicken salad – a super healthy low-fat chicken salad made with roasted chicken, low-fat mayo, dried cranberries and nuts served on marathon multigrain bread – and a build your own salad with all kinds of good toppings and balsamic vinaigrette.
I am so obsessed with this restaurant. It is perfect for lunch. They feature healthy and fresh foods. The half and half combo is only $6.99 and such good deal. You can build your own salad with no limit on the toppings. It also comes with a drink and I love their unsweetened iced peach black tea.
I had plans of packing up and leaving for my grandmother’s this evening but it started raining and some devil dog decided that it was a good idea to roll in the mud.
Sullie was such a mess that I had to immediately put her in the tub and bathe her. Bad! Lucky for her, she’s too cute when she’s wet to stay mad at for very long. I should have taken a before picture of her covered in mud! 😉
I called my grandmother and we decided that I should wait and leave Saturday morning since the weather was so bad and I didn’t want to spend four hours in the car with wet dog smell.
Since I didn’t have to rush to get on the road I went to pick up a new book. I really enjoy wandering around bookstores. I also enjoy reading but have been such a slacker about it lately.
I saw Poser: My Life in Twenty-Three Yoga Poses in the “new in paperback” section and remembered hearing good things about it when it first came out. Has anyone read it? I will let y’all know what I think. There is a strong possibility that I will read the whole thing over the weekend at my grandmother’s! Looking forward to the downtime.
Dinner tonight was sushi and a cookie. Half brown rice tuna/avocado, half spicy tuna/cucumber and a vegan everything cookie. Yum!
Off to pack and get to bed. I’m trying to hit the road bright and early tomorrow.
Anyone have fun weekend plans?
I’m going to the spa with my family, it’s pretty awesome, I can’t wait !!
Those sushis look yummy !! Enjoy the time spent with your grandmother =)
jealous of your spa day. i could use some relaxation! i hope that you enjoy every second. have a great weekend!
Have a good weekend with your Grandmother. Let us know how the book is too. I’m off to run 15 miles. Wheeee
soooo awesome! i hope it went well!
Have a great weekend at your grandmother’s!
That salad looks delicious 🙂
That book is REALLY good and you probably will finish it over the weekend. I reviewed it on my blog a while back. It’s about yoga, but it’s also about love, family, growth, writing, balance… A really lovely book, anyway you look at it. Good choice!
definitely checking out your review. cannot wait to get into it! need that kind of book in my life right now! 😉
Have a great weekend Jen!
Your lunch looks so yummy!! Sounds like a great weekend you have planned! Very safe travels, I live in Atlanta and it’s pouring! At least it’s warm 🙂
Ooh — well I guess I’d rather have the rain than the snow we are getting outside of Boston! I just tried to do a 5 miler and only could get about 3.5 in — I was running really gingerly, trying to make sure I didn’t slip — and it just was not fun! I went to pick up my son at basketball practice and looked like the abominable snowman (icy eyebrows and all). Oh well, hopefully the other parents were jealous that I had already worked out and not thinking I was crazy for running in this!
I did read the book! It’s cute — a woman who draws parallels between her life and the different types of yoga she tries. You’ll probably get a kick out of her descriptions of the ins and outs of each style of yoga.
Safe travels and have fun with your grandma!
oh my gosh, i cannot believe that you ran in those conditions. it makes me cold just thinking about it! so impressed that you were committed to getting your run in! i’m sure the other parents were jealous! 🙂
can’t wait to get started on the book!
Energy Cafe looks amazing!! I try not to eat out at lunch too much (stupid budget :)) but I will have to try it next week–it’s pretty close to my office.
Have a safe drive to GA!
i try not to eat lunch out too often either but sometimes it’s so tempting when i’m uptown because there are so many restaurants right there. try out energy! you’ll like it!
Yum! Your food looks so good:) Have a safe trip and a great time visiting your Grandma!!
I just finished reading that book a few days ago. I really liked it. Even though the author is probably 10 years older than I am, I identified with her a lot.
I’m impressed that you got Sullie in the tub. Murphy HATES water (which is odd for a golden, I know.)
sullie is NOT a fan of baths but loves swimming. she always gives me the most pathetic look when i’m bathing her and acts like she’s being tortured! 😉
Have a great weekend! Sullie is just too cute!
I wanted to read that book too so I’ll be interested in your review!
Maverick has that duck toy too!! Except he’s had about 5 and destroys them in an day. We call them “ducky” and now he thinks every toy is called “ducky”…have fun with your grandmother!
I read Poser this summer while I was at camp. The book is a good mix of memoir and family history and a brief history of yoga. These types of books can be a little navel-gazey for me, but this one toed the line well. I found it more balanced then say, Eat, Pray, Love. I’ll be interested to hear how you like it!
I spent Friday PM and Saturday at our Diocesan Convention up at Sewanee. Tomorrow is church stuff followed by an 11 mile run with my mom!
glad to hear that you found it more tolerable than eat, pray, love. i did struggle with that one a bit.
good luck with your long run!!!
I’m reading that book right now and hope to finish it on the plane tomorrow. I think you’ll love it. Enjoy your time with your grandma!
Your lunch looks & sounds amazing! Next time I head downtown I am definitely trying it out.
I’ve heard only amazing things about Poser and actually just requested it from my local library.
Hope you had a fab weekend.
I showed my husband the pic of Sullie and her duck and he said “is that Roxy?” We have several ducks. 😉
