I received a three-night stay in Folly Beach through HomeAway in exchange for this review.
I’m so excited to continue sharing my Folly Beach adventures with you today. I’ve got a home tour of the amazing dog-friendly rental that we stayed in for the weekend plus tons of photos (and a video!) of the pups on the beach. It was Zoey’s first trip to the beach!
Dog-Friendly Folly Beach Vacation Rental: Home Tour
After scouting out all the amazing Folly Beach options available on HomeAway, I decided that The Osprey, a renovated “European-style treehouse,” was just the right place for our weekend girls getaway. It was light, bright, airy and spacious and featured a wrap-around porch and an outdoor shower. I knew those last two things would come in handy with the dogs coming along!
We were greeted with a guest book that had tons of house and area info inside of it, Charleston-themed snacks, a handwritten note and a bottle of wine in the fridge. I also had easy access to the property managers via text message and they checked in on us several times to make sure there wasn’t anything we needed.
When you first walk in, this is the layout of the open dining and living area. We spent a lot of time at that dining table chatting, reading magazines and playing games!
The Osprey features an updated kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a washer/dryer.
The kitchen was super well-equipped with everything that we needed to make easy meals at the house.
Both the living and dining areas opened out onto the wrap-around porch.
Both of the bedrooms were located upstairs. (Also a note that under the stairs there was a dog crate big enough for a lab/golden and a pack n’ play!)
The bedrooms were big, clean, uncluttered and bright. The first had a queen and a twin.
Here’s the twin set up.
The second bedroom had a full-sized bed.
Both bedrooms had updated bathrooms that were accessible through a sliding barn-style door.
The bathrooms had basic toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and a face wipe) and towels and sheets were provided with the rental.
Big walk in showers!
The house was located just one block from the beach and it only took us about 2-3 minutes to walk to the beach. There was a public access point right down the street.
For those of you into walking, biking and running, Folly is a great place for it and you could wind all over the island and get some good mileage in.
The Pups Visit Folly Beach
I was so excited about this trip because it was Zoey’s first time at the beach and we all know how much Sullie loves the water!
I made this video to show you how much fun they had!
Folly Beach is a dog-friendly beach. September-May you can have dogs on the beach 24 hours a day. During the summer the hours are restricted to before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. Tons of people had their dogs out there!
I think it’s safe to say that Zoey LOVED the beach. Mainly for the wide expanse of flat sand she had to run after her ball!
She absolutely wore herself out chasing after the ball.
While Zoey doesn’t beeline to the water the way her sister does, she doesn’t mind swimming…especially when the ball is thrown into the water!
Sullie on the other hand, is my little fish. You can’t keep this girl out of the water.
And after she gets out, her favorite activity is to roll in the sand. OMG, look at this filth!
All that matters is that she was happy though. At just over 11.5 years old, my Sullie girl deserves all the joy in the world!
It was really, really special for me to be able to bring her with me on this trip. She’s an old girl and life is about to change so much so I really treasured the opportunity to share this adventure with her.
If you’re looking for a dog-friendly beach destination, I would recommend adding Folly Beach to your list, especially in the off-season! It’s such a great spot thanks to its great beaches, laid-back vibe and proximity to gorgeous Charleston, SC. (Which also has an abundance of crazy delicious restaurants! Foodie heaven!) It’s about a 20-30 minute drive, depending on traffic.
Here’s the link to The Osprey dog-friendly vacation rental. And here’s a link to all the HomeAway Folly Beach rentals. I really enjoyed booking through HomeAway and had ZERO issues with my stay. Everything was seamless!
Also, HomeAway features over two million properties in over 190 countries to no matter where you are, there is a great vacation option for you and your budget!
Please let me know if you have any Folly Beach or HomeAway questions. I’m happy to answer!

Your video is so heartwarming and enjoyable to watch…the dogs are soooo happy!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much Carla. <3
Watching the video of Sullie (Zoey too!) in the wind and sun made me choke up a bit just out of pure joy. She is so, so happy. I know you do already, but really, treasure every single moment with her! Pets are so special. xxx
Aw! 🙂 I know, it makes me a little emotional too. My sweet Sullie girl. Ahhhhhh. I am grateful for every single day I have with her beautiful soul.
My husband and I love taking our pup Cora with us. She loves the beach – doesn’t go in the water but enjoys all the smells and peeing on shells lol.
Homeaway is hit or miss for me. The cleaning fee on that unit for the minimum night stay is $220 plus over $100 service fee. Seems a bit pricey.
Enjoyed your review and the cute beach pictures!
I agree that the cleaning fee is a bit steep for a short stay but if you are booking something longer, it’s pretty reasonable. Also, the unit was super clean and the service was great. I enjoyed just being able to walk out and leave without having to clean! All a trade-off! So fun that your dog enjoys the beach too (and the peeing on shells!). Haha.
This is the CUTEST!! They are darling and the video is such a joy! Glad they love the beach as much as you do 🙂
Thanks Nicki! We had such a great time and it was really special to be able to bring them along.
You all look so happy and content, Jen. Those are the best moments in life ❤️
We have a golden, and she LOVES swimming in pools but has never been to a beach. This is probably a really dumb question, but is there any particular brush or method you use to clean them up after the beach? Our Morgan has SO much fur that I don’t know how we’d ever get all that sand out!
I was browsing another website for Folly Beach rentals, I took my two goldens there last summer and loved it but it was through VRBO and very expensive. Did a google search and found your review, and was like “ok, I’ll give homeaway.com a try”. How on earth a 157.00 a night stay, for 3 nights, turned into a 1,186.00 quote, is beyond me. 630.00 for the house, 361.90 in manager fees, 88.20 in tax, and 106.00 in service fees?!?!?!?!? I’ll stick to the other website, since fees doubled the price of the rental.
I will still travel to folly, it’s great though it doesn’t appear that the police hounded you like they did me, with my 2 golden’s, on leash, but my hand not on the leash, so I could toss balls to them in the ocean. So anyone looking into folly, it’s awesome, but they do NOT let the rest of us allow our dogs to run without us holding the leash, let alone unleashed like they did Jen.
