Hi from the Dominican Republic!
I said goodbye to this (growing!) fluff ball on Wednesday morning and headed to the airport to meet up with my girls.
It was an easy 3.5 hour direct flight down here. I packed lunch for everyone. PB&Js, grapes, carrots and pretzels. I watched “This Is Where I Leave You” on the flight and loved it.
Between the quick stop we made at duty-free in the Punta Cana airport and the snack we brought with us, we’re pretty set when it comes to snacking, red wine and tequila. 🙂
Several experiences with all-inclusive resorts has taught me that bringing your own wine is a very good idea. They have plenty of nice selections when it comes to liquor but the wine leaves something to be desired.
We got our toes in the sand for a few hours yesterday afternoon after we arrived.
We’re staying at the Majestic Colonial Resort in Punta Cana. I’ll post a full review on it once I get home.
We all agreed that we wanted to get up and move every morning before vegging for the rest of the day. (We all met through our shared love for hot yoga and being active.) This morning I put everyone through my “The Running 500” workout. We did it outside in 93% humidity so it was a bit of a sweat-fest but a great way to start the day.
The rest of our day was spent beachside reading, sleeping and sipping on drinks. I fully confess to being a “lazy” vacationer. I have no interest in excursions and being active. I never stop in my daily life so on vacation I like to slow WAY down. Of course this would be different if I was on a trip specifically to sightsee in another country but if I’m on a beach, my butt is going to be in a beach chair!
Grateful for my friends and a getaway!
Sending warm thoughts and sunshine to all of you digging out of snow and surviving the cold. (And I mean that in the nicest way possible!)
Beach vacations…are you an on-the-go excursion kind of person or do you love to kick back and relax?
Your vacation looks like so much fun!! Good for you! You deserve a fun, relaxing getaway with the girls–enjoy! And I’m with you–real life is for working hard, but vacation is for kicking back and relaxing:) Have a great time!
Q: How do you stay tan in the dead of winter? Is it your genes? 🙂
haha! yes, natural coloring! no fake bake or spray tan! 🙂
Sooo pretty! I’m interested in your recap of the resort. The only all inclusive I’ve stayed at with half way decent wine is Sandals. It is drinkable at least.
I am a half and half beach girl. I like to one excursion or one boat tour and then veg out.
i’ll be posting my review this week. and ditto…i have had some baaaddddd all-inclusive wine experiences.
So fun! I have never done an all-girls’ trip before but it sounds so fun,and a beach looks great right about now. 😉 We love to explore on vacation, but I’m like you: when I’m at the beach, it’s a chill-out, get a workout in the morning in, relax in the sand and waves all day. We’d be good on vacation together. 😉 Have fun!
haha! maybe we should have a big blog beach girl’s getaway! 🙂
Definitely with you on that one! I could literally sit on the beach from 9am-4 pm as long as I had food, hydration, and a chair. Maybe a book and some music. that is ZEN for me.
yes! one of the things i love about visiting my parents is that my dad will deliver lunch to me on the beach. nothing like a sandwich while your toes are in the sand!
Kick back and relax and enjoy the moment! A morning workout is a great idea to star the day, but the rest of the day I am all about the beach, the water, the naps, and the good eats and booze. Enjoy yourself! XOXO
Have the best time! I am all for relaxing beach vacation over sight-seeing constantly on the move trips.
right!? we do that enough in our day-to-day!
Wow! It sounds like you are having such a wonderful time! Can’t wait for the recap!
I like to have a mix of both excursions and relaxing on the beach. Everything looks so great especially the sun, beach and smiles!! Enjoy the rest of your trip 🙂
So jealous! Looks warm and sunny! Have a great time!!!!
That’s sounds amazing to escape to the beach! Have a wonderful trip 🙂
Looks like fun and much warmer than where i am right now!
I think my feeling on excursions on vacation really depend on where I am. We went to Kaua’i on our honeymoon and I really could not imagine going all that way to just sit on the beach or by the pool. There is just too much to see on the island and simply sticking around the resort would be tragic. However, when we went to the Caribbean or even on local beach vacation I am all about relaxing on the beach and slowing down as much as possible.
erin – i am totally with you! when i visited hawaii i definitely wanted to see things and explore as well! it totally depends on my destination!
I will be staying there next week! Your pictures have me so excited. We plan on doing a fair share of beach bumming but I’m excited to try your Running 500 workout while I’m there! Enjoy the rest of your trip!!
hey liz! i will be posting a massive review in the next few days that will hopefully give you a lot of good info for your trip!
What a fun getaway! So jealous!
Enjoy the beach Jen! My favorite place to be! Nothing better than soaking up the sun and swimming.
Enjoy the vacation, you deserve it!! LOVE your bikini, where is it from, specifically the top?
thanks nicki! top is from target and bottoms are from VS.
Looks so lovely! I am an in-betweener on vacation. I like to have a little bit of down time but I get antsy so I also like to have fun adventures and excursions built in. I went on an all inclusive to the DR and had a blast but wished we could of done a bit more adventure. Enjoy!
My husband and I tend to do more busy/adventurous vacations which are amazing but always leave us a bit tired and needing a vacation from our vacation after. Last year we did a whirlwind 2 weeks in Ireland and Scotland! This year we are going to Maui for our annual vacation. We wanted to do beach but we didn’t want to do all inclusive so we rented a condo on the beach and we’re planning on spending lots of time on the beach but also lots of time hiking and trail running. We’re hoping it will be a good balance between a completely relaxing beach vacation and a busy adventurous type vacation with lots going on 🙂
did you love ireland and scotland? ireland is one of my favorite trips ever!
your maui plan sounds perfect! i would want to do this same thing.
Anxious for your review. We stayed at majestic last year. I was very disappointed . Room leaked water smelled bad and food was terrible. Only enjoyed mango avocado and pineapple . They even served those smiley French fries one night. Desserts were even bad
hey ash! i have a pretty exhaustive review coming in the next couple of days. our room was good, overall resort was nice, food was not great (but we expected that going into it so it wasn’t a disappointment). we had a nice trip.
I stayed there for my honeymoon this past July. Great place, just brought some nasty bug home with me. Hope you don’t have the same fate! Can’t wait to read your review.
hey carrie! we all made it back healthy…although i can’t say we loved the food while we were there. happy to be back in my kitchen!
Ahh so jealous of that sunshine and sand (as my fingers and toes are frozen here in Boston)! But seriously, I’m glad you’re having a wonderful and relaxing time with friends! Soak up all that “lazy” time. Those kinds of vacations are beautiful.
P.S. I did your Running 500 workout today and loved it!
thank you so much for trying my workout. i’m glad you liked it! sending you warmth! 🙂
Hellooooo from Chile! I de-lurked when I saw the photos of your wine – I can recognize Chilean wine from a mile away!
