I have settled into a nice vacation routine – and can I comment that I love that I can now call visiting my parents “vacation.”
Wake up around 7 and make coffee, edit previous day’s photos for blog, make breakfast, write blog post, workout, beach, lunch, beach, shower and catch up on work emails, dinner, relax, dessert, bed.
This is nice!
My dad had to leave yesterday to drive to Georgia for work so we went out for breakfast before he hit the road.
There was no question on where to go…The Donut Hole! This is another of our favorite spots in Destin. It’s kind of like a diner that also serves an amazing spread of homemade donuts, pastries, cakes, pies and more.
I was taking pictures of the pastry case and donuts while we were waiting for a table and I spotted the chocolate peanut butter donut. It’s like my dream come true!
I attempted to keep it semi-healthy and ordered scrambled eggs, sliced tomatoes and cinnamon raisin toast but really all I could think about was the apple fritters.
And then my dad said, “let’s get an apple fritter to share for the table.” I enthusiastically nodded my head in agreement. Yes, please! LOVE HIM! It was everything I remembered and more.
Once we got back and proper digestion occurred, I knocked out a super quick workout. Here’s what I did.
1 mile run
THEN
“Invisible Fran” for time
21-15-9 (reps)
Air Squats
Push Ups
1 mile run
REPEAT
“Invisible Fran” for time
The stats:
Mile 1 – 8:40
Invisible Fran 1 – 2:20
Mile 2 – 8:05
Invisible Fran 2 – 2:05
Total workout time: 21:10
This was a short workout but high on intensity. I’ve been trying to keep my vacation workouts around 30 minutes but maximize the work that’s done in those 30 minutes.
I beached for a couple of hours after my workout and then came in for a peanut butter, honey and banana, chips and watermelon. I think I ended up eating a quarter of a watermelon. So refreshing, especially at the beach.
My mom and I wanted to stay in for dinner last night so I cooked a recipe from Southern Living for Basil Peach Chicken Breasts. The only change I made to the original recipe was to add cherries since we had some in the fridge. I served the chicken over quinoa. This is a great savory peach recipe. The peach sauce is very flavorful with shallots, ginger, garlic and basil cooked with the peaches and some chicken broth.
While I made dinner, my mom put together a salad.
I convinced my mom to go on a little outing after dinner. Mini golf!
It was so much fun and we laughed the whole time. Especially when my mom teed off too aggressively and her ball ended up bouncing into the lagoon. This resulted in her having to backtrack eight holes to get a new ball. She spoke of having to cross other people’s greens and traversing rough terrain. I was almost in tears.
We cooled down after golf with ice cream. I had some Dulce de Leche and Cookies and Cream with chocolate sauce. I may go into ice cream withdrawals after this trip.
And a bite of chocolate peanut butter donut before bed (you know I had to bring one home).
I’m flying out tonight so I’m off to enjoy one last day on the beach. Happy Monday!
Lol I can’t control my own strength when I play mini golf either and inevitably hit the ball 10x’s further than I should have.
haha – love “i can’t control my own strength.” apparently my mom had that problem too! 🙂
All of those eats look AWESOME! I am kind of bad at mini putt–I’m better at real golf just because I enjoy smacking the ball really hard instead. I guess the driving range would be just the best for me! 🙂 I want that bedtime donut. Yum.
I wish I had your metabolism! I’d gain five pounds eating the fritter alone! Looks like such a great vacation and you look great!
Oh, what is an invisible fran?
I’m an idiot — I see your description of the reps and squats/push-ups. Sorry.
haha – no prob. you’re not an idiot, it’s monday morning! 😀
OMG, your food looks sooooo good. Love all the PB action you are seeing. That ice cream, ah! Your savory eats look great too. I love mini golf on vacation. Screams summer to me.
i can’t even remember the last time i played. it was SO fun!
Um those donuts look amazing! My sister has an obsession with donuts so I will be sending her a link to your site ASAP! I love the “invisible Fran” workout! What a perfect way to WOD while on vacation! I love seeing the workouts you are coming up with! So perfect to have on hand for future trips!
i did another good one today and i’ll post it tomorrow. hope your sister likes the post. did you see the red velvet cake donuts next to the chocolate peanut butter ones? yum!
Love The Donut Hole! That used to be the traditional first breakfast of the trip on my family vacations to Destin. It’s definitely a challenge to keep it healthy there 🙂
it’s pretty much impossible but that’s what vacation is for, right!?
that is so funny what your mom said. i’m going to the beach for a week at the end of the month and i’m going to have to steal some of your workouts…thanks!!
you are so welcome! i did another good one today. i’ll post it tomorrow!
Love how you saved that chocolate peanut butter donut pic for last. Drooling!! Looks divine!
Love the intense but short workouts too. Definitely going to be using those so thanks 🙂
i have really come to appreciate the benefit of high intensity training. especially perfect for vacay when you don’t want to spend all day working out!
I’m loving your “vacation” family visit posts! My boyfriend grew up with his family making the same trip – a week or so in Destin every two years. His parents retired last year and moved to Miramar Beach, so now we have the same parent visit vacation option. So fun! What a great place – I love going there and enjoying the laid-back atmosphere. Glad you had a great trip, and thanks for sharing!
so nice that his parents retired to the beach. it is pretty great when family time can be vacation too! 🙂
Can’t remember if I already said this in a comment, but we go to Destin every year! We love it! I am glad that you are having a great time and your eats looks delicious, as usual! 😉
so fun! it’s such a pretty place.
I’m unbelievably jealous of your amazing vacation…it’s even worse that I’m reading this post from my office! (shhh). Going to try making that peach/basil chicken recipe tonight I think!
i walked out to the beach today and it started pouring down rain…if that’s any consolation! 🙂
Chocolate pb donut OMG. I’m spending a week at the beach with my parents the first week in August & I can’t wait! There’s something so relaxing being on vacation with family 🙂 Glad you had a great time (& I need to jot down some of those workouts)!
I love mini golf–brings back so many childhood memories and it really brings out the inner kid in people!
I tried your 10-1 workout today and loved it! can’t wait to try to beat my time 🙂 enjoy the last day of your trip!
I almost was upset when I thought you didn’t try the chocolate pb donut but was relieved when I saw your last picture!! looks amazing
That is the perfect beach lunch. I always crave peanut butter sandwiches at the beach!
Thanks for sharing the workout! I did it today and loved it! I definitely want to get into Crossfit and enjoyed the class that I took with you a few weeks ago. I need a job first before I sign up though! So, right now I am just doing Crossfit workouts that you can do at home without equipment. Thanks again!
Love the crossfit travel WODs! You should set it up so they can be pinned. I belong to a box at home, but travel a lot so I’m working on a “go to” board on Pinterest for when I’m on the road.
I tried your 10-1 workout after spinning today and I was drenched by the end of it! Loving the WODs you’ve been posting.
yay! i’m so glad that you enjoyed it. thanks for the feedback!
I’m so bad at mini golf and get so competitive, I probably make it not fun hah. That workout sounds great! I’m going to bookmark that…maybe for later today! Your vacation sounds like it was such a great time for you and you got to relax and clearly enjoy some awesome eats!
lisa – my mom and i are so competitive too but we just had fun with it. i’m so glad i got to spend time with my family. it was just what i needed.
The donuts look amazing! How how how did you manage to only have one bite? I have no self control wahtsoever
well, i had just eaten a bowl of ice cream so it was easier. i finished the rest of it after my workout the next day!
