I did something last night that I haven’t done in 10 years.
(source – I was not that close to the stage.)
I went to a Dave Matthews Band concert. I actually cannot believe that it’s been so long since I’ve seen Dave because to say that I was obsessed in high school would be an understatement. If I had time I would dig up some old pictures for you of my 16-year old self at DMB concerts, you would probably find that entertaining. My parents bought me a car when I got my drivers license and the first thing I did was put a Dave sticker on the back. Live at Red Rocks was my all-time favorite album and I was trying to list my top five favorite songs last night during the show.
I can’t rank them but I think this is it for me…
– Grey Street
– Lover Lay Down
– #41
– Crush
– Warehouse
And because I have to, my favorite cover…
– All Along the Watchtower
Dave Matthews Band fan – yes or no? Favorite song?
Things were a little different this time around. Tailgating involved wine, craft beer and a cheese and meat spread.
I think I could eat this for dinner every single night. Italian meats, soft cheese, crusty bread and grapes. So delicious with wine.
We missed the opener, Head and the Heart, because traffic was so terrible getting to the amphitheater. We made it in just as DMB was starting. It was the most beautiful evening and we had good seats. I was so pleased to find that it was the same old Dave – he sounded great and played an awesome mix of old and new. They played for almost three hours to a nearly sold-out crowd and encored with Tripping Billies. Eat, drink and be merry. 🙂
Unfortunately, we sat in complete gridlock trying to get out after the show and it took over an hour just to exit the lot we were in. I didn’t get home until after 1 a.m. I took a hot shower (post-concert ritual) and then passed out. We ended up sitting in traffic getting there and leaving for longer than we were in the show. Craziness. Regardless, it was a really fun evening and brought back so many good memories. Lots of dancing and smiling took place. Hopefully it won’t be 10 years before I see Dave again.
I made a Greek yogurt bowl for breakfast this morning (along with lots of black coffee!). Plain Greek yogurt with pumpkin puree stirred in, TJ’s pumpkin butter, banana, granola, dried cranberries, blueberries and sunflower seed butter.
Lunch was a big salad from Crisp. After last night’s carb + cheese fest, I needed a green lunch. Mixed greens, spinach, boiled egg, pears, feta, tomatoes and walnuts with honey mustard vinaigrette. I added a few slices of grilled chicken that I “stole” from my lunch companion.
Things are changing at our new location every day! The floors are down, the rack systems are in and they’ve started on the custom wall art and murals. All of the equipment is beginning to arrive and we are gearing up to get this place open! I’m actively working on the website so stay tuned. I’ll share it when it’s ready to launch! Also, Charlotte area readers, we’re going to have free preview workouts the week of June 11. I’ll be posting all the details here and on facebook. Feel free to shoot me an email too with any questions.
Off to teach BodyPump and make another stop by the new space.
HUGE YES!
You & Me is my favorite DMB song 🙂
Looooooooooove Dave!! Grey Street and #41 are some of my faves too.
crazy – i also used to be obsessed with dmb! ps – where did you get that so cute dress!!!!??
I’m so jealous you saw Dave!!! Favorite songs: American Baby, Dive In, The Idea of You, Grey Street, and The Giving Tree! I remember the first time I listed to DMB in high school. #memories sigh :] I still need to see Dave and the Avett Brothers. I’ve actually seen The Head and the Heart. They’re pretty good; I really like Lost in my Mind.
Also I used “Dead Hearts” by Stars in savasana for my first ever yoga class. Thanks for posting the playlist!
Obsessed with Dave! I saw him in Raleigh about 6 years ago. Lots of his music reminds me of when I was dating my now-husband. Dave’s also South African (like my husband) and I also LOVE the violinist… amazing.
I love the concert snacks…very grown up. Some things are better with age.
Love the tailgating food! But make sure you check out Head and the Heart. They’re a great band!
Free workout, Hmmmm. Do I have to do pullups?
Looks like you had a great time!
Totally not related to this post, but I remember a while back you had mentioned doing a whole post devoted to tempeh. Any chances of that happening soon? I’m wanting to incorporate more vegetarian food into my diet and am curious about tempeh. I also have a weights question I might email you about if that’s ok?
Have fun at Pump!
Sounds like a fun night 🙂
Dancing Nancies! I saw DMB a ton in college!!! It has been awhile.
“The Space Between”
“Crash”
How fun! Love DMB, fav song is Ants Marching. The gym looks great!
SO jealous that you got to see Dave Matthews live! He’s one of the artists on my must-see-live list haha. Sounds like so much fun!
Yes I am a DMB fan. But my Hubby is a huge fan. We met while watching a DMB cover band. He introduced himself to me during Crash Into Me. Our Cats are named Crash and Crush. Crash Into Me became our wedding song. Seemed to make the most sense. LOL. Lucky for him he is going to be able to fit in 2 shows this summer with his buddy. Looks like you had a great time.
I saw DMB on Tuesday night in Atlanta! Too bad you missed The Head and The Heart, they were good.
Favorite songs:
1. #41 (which they played)
2. Say Goodbye
3. You Never Know
4. Bartender
5. Lie in Our Graves
I definitely like older DMB stuff better. I think I’ve probably been to around 30 shows. Like you, I started seeing them in high school.
Love Dave! And his band is AMAZING! My two favorite songs: Don’t Drink the Water, and The Last Stop….though my favorite song live is Cornbread because I LOVE his hoe down! I’m going to go listen to some Dave now :]
I notice you don’t wear your wedding ring. Is this because of your vigorous workout schedule? I rarely wear mine. I hate the feeling of jewelry on my hands!
It’s amazing how much our ideas of ‘partying hard’ change from 16 to almost 30!
I love DMB! The hubby and I are going to his concert in June and we can’t wait! My favorite song is You & Me. It’s actually our unofficial song….we wanted to dance to it at our wedding but it’s over 5 minutes long so we went with Frank’s The Way You Look Tonight instead. Love your blog! You’re great inspiration!
Loved Dave….loved the music as well as had a huge crush on him! He was my first concert! I am going to see Phish in August at LAKEWOOD! Should be interesting stepping foot in that place again…haven’t been there in forever. I would have loved to hear how Head and the Heart was….I really like the songs I have heard from them.
We’re actually seeing DMB next month! Grey Street is my all time favorite. For our wedding processional, we played #34 and The Christmas Song….both were a hit 🙂 Hope you have a fabulous holiday weekend!
I was so sad I didn’t get to see him at The Hangout Festival this year (in Gulf Shores, AL). DMB is definitely one of my faves. Of his tunes, Grey Street, Break Free, #41 are probably my favorites, but I must say I love them all!
love DMB. haven’t seen them since 2003 or 2004…
top faves would be:
1. crush
2. too much
3. grey street
4. seek up
5. two step
What a fun concert! I haven’t been to one in way too long. DMB is great, I haven’t seen them play live, but would love that opportunity! Mmm drooling over your wine, cheese, and grape dinner. I could do that pretty often as well
DMB is awesome. I’m not obsessed but I do like some of their songs. My favorites are Grey Street, Two Step, Stay, and So Right.
I was obsessed with Dave in high school too!!! Ahhh we used to go to do many concerts! He would come to Philly for 3 days and my friends and I would do all 3! It’s been over 10 years last concert I went to was in 99! I was a senior eek!!
I could have a meal like u had for dinner 2x a day I think! I love a fresh assortment or meats, cheese, and bread.
big fan of your blog! but I must comment on this one!
LOVE DMB! I was there too! What an Amazing show! There’s not many songs that I don’t like but Blackjack was a good surprise to hear! As was Cornbread 🙂 the encore was amazing!
Yes, I love DMB! Fave songs? “Say Goodbye,” “Grey Street,” “#41,” and my ringtone for Hubs is “You and Me.”
This got me really excited because I’m going to DMB wednesday!! I try to go every year, but last year he didnt tour and the year before somehow missed out, so I am EXTRA excited, and yes totally reminds me of college 🙂 I have a feeling craft beer will be involved as well.
