Good morning and happy Saturday. Let me first start by saying that I hope all of you being impacted by Winter Storm Jonas are safe and warm. I couldn’t believe the coverage coming out of DC, NY and NJ this morning on The Weather Channel.
We definitely had our fair share of winter weather in Charlotte over the last two days but lucky for me, I escaped it just hours before it started.
I had a trip scheduled to Florida for a delayed holiday visit with my parents and grandmother since we didn’t see each other over Christmas. I was supposed to fly out late Friday night but that was looking unlikely. On a whim, I called American Airlines on Thursday morning to see if there was any possibility of getting out earlier thinking it was a long shot. There was a 3+ hour wait to talk to an agent but they called me back around 1 p.m. and said “oh your flight tomorrow has already been cancelled…we’ve cancelled all flights out of Charlotte.” I asked if there was any way I could get out that night and she said, “yes, I can put you on the 8:15 p.m.” I accepted and quickly wrapped up everything in Charlotte, got packed and Ubered to the airport.
The airport was NUTS! It was probably the busiest I’ve ever seen Charlotte Douglas. I didn’t know if I’d make it through security and to my gate on time because the lines were SO. I hustled and got myself on board and off to Florida.
Bye-bye Charlotte and Winter Storm Jonas.
Hello Florida! It is FREEZING here. So windy and in the 30s but I’ll take it over the snow and ice.
I’m happy to report that my grandmother is doing really well and getting all settled in. My dad and the dogs check in on her a few times every day and she comes to visit every night for dinner and some TV time!
My dad is torturing me with homemade sourdough bread. This might be the hardest moment of Whole30 yet. If I weren’t on day 22 I might throw in the towel. 😉
On that note, I’ll be back later today with Whole30 days 17-20.

And another shameless plug for my book! A reader snapped me a picture of it at Whole Foods in Bedford, MA. Another spotted it at the Barnes and Noble in Union Square in NYC. This has made my week! You can find it online at Amazon! (And don’t forget about my core training book, Ultimate Plank Fitness).
Indoor workout inspiration…
I programmed this 1,000 rep home workout back in 2014 when I was snowed in and it’s become the most popular workout on my site. If you’re stuck inside today, give it a try!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Are you snowed in? If so, how are you staying active and sane?
Any interesting links to share or new blogs you’re following?
You got lucky to get out! It’s craziness here in NY, much more snow than expected but I am enjoying being in the house. Ran long on the treadmill and now baking
I saw a picture of a friend’s apartment where the bikes outside were almost completely covered up by snow! So crazy. At least it sounds like you had a good snow day!
I moved to Charlotte from Michigan over the summer, so this is my first winter in the south. Im shocked that the whole city shut down because of a couple inches of snow! It has been icy and nasty though, be glad you are in FL. I have a fitness center in my apt complex, so that has been keeping me sane. Along with home cooking. I actually just started a blog this month. Do you have any posts about blogging for beginners? Thank you!
Haha! I know. It happens every time. We just aren’t really well prepared to deal with much snow since it happens so infrequently. I don’t have any posts specifically about that but I’d be happy to answer any questions you have.
Have fun in Florida!! It’s blizzarding as I type here in Boston. We’re hoping it’s not as bad as last year (110+ in of snow!).
Also, your 1000 rep home workout is one of my favorite workouts ever! It’s great for a college student with limited time and space 🙂
That’s crazy! I hope you stay warm and dry. I’m so glad you like the workout!
Your dads sourdough is tortuing me too! Haha I loooove sourdough. One of these days I’ll make it!
Haha I know! It was SO hard to pass up.
Thank you so much for sharing my post, Jen! I’m so glad you read, and grateful for your support. Now it’s just time to be consistent, right? 🙂 Have fun in the sun!!
Jen, I’m so flattered that you shared my post! It’s nice to have some virtual support during Whole30 (and beyond). I wish FL was warmer for you…I’ve buckled down inside here and am treating this cold like a snow-day. This girl thinks 40 degrees is freezing!
Thanks for sharing sweet friend! I hope you’ve had a wonderful trip!! So glad you got to see your grandmother in her new home! xo
amazing – so so proud & impressed I am of you & your book!!!
