I got back into reading A LOT when I was pregnant, especially at night before bed. Reading has always been one of my favorite ways to unwind and relax and it was super helpful in dealing with pregnancy and stress-induced insomnia when I was pregnant.
It has continued into life with a baby, much thanks to a Kindle! When Finn was four weeks old we made our first visit to Florida. On that trip my grandmother gave me one of her Kindles (she had two). The best part? It was loaded with over 150 books! I’ve always been a big fan of holding a physical book but the Kindle is invaluable when you’re trying to read while breastfeeding or holding a sleeping baby.
Another tip. Finn wakes up to eat once or twice every night. I am totally cool with this and committed to nursing on demand BUT sometimes I have a hard time falling back asleep. I have learned that if I read I will fall back asleep so much faster than if I start scrolling my phone. I LOVE the adjustable backlight on the Kindle and not having to turn a light on. It’s amazing.
One more thing. Most of you know that I adore podcasts and audiobooks. I listen to them when I’m walking, driving, folding laundry, cleaning up the house, etc. Given all of my back and forth to Tennessee for yoga teacher training, I’ve had tons of time to listen to podcasts and audiobooks.
Which leads me to today’s post! I recently asked for recommendations for an audiobook to download for my drive home from Tennessee. I received SO MANY suggestions that I knew I had to compile them all into one place so that we can all have it as a resource.

Thanks for the recommendations! You may know this already, but you can borrow kindle books from the library. You can down load the Libby app for Charlotte Mecklenburg libraries. For newer books there is usually a wait, but with a reading list like the one above you can easily find something else to read while you wait. They have audio books that you can borrow as well. This has been a life saver for me!
Thanks for the list! Always looking for new books. Some of my recent favorites:
Behind Closed Doors***
The Marriage Lie
A Man Called Ove
The Art of Hearing Heartbeats
The Good Girl
Before we were Yours
Sharp Objects
Lilac Girls, Sarah’s Key and we were the lucky ones
The family next door
I also really enjoyed little fires everywhere, the last mrs. Parrish, the wife between us but they’re already on your list.
I also second the last comment. Rent digital copies from the library!
This looks like a great list! I’ve read many on this list. I recently read “Young Jane Young” and based on your list I think you would like it. Really cute story, and by the end I couldn’t put it down- had to figure out how it finished! Also, you have to put “The Wife Between Us” at the top of your list. It’s EXCELLENT. Also, “The Perfect Mother” is really good. Happy reading!
I just finished Educated last week. Her childhood was so completely different from mine. It was interesting to get a peek into it.
I am a voracious reader! I absolutely love having an e-reader and I was one of those people who thought I would hate it. It’s perfect for traveling, I can just download whatever book I want in an instant and the e-books are often less expensive than the hardcover. (That said, I do love prowling my local used bookstore and still buy a lot there!) Another bonus: I often drop my book when I fall asleep reading in bed, I’m much less likely to lose my place with my e-reader, haha!
I just started Educated, it was my book club’s selection this month. Joining a book club was such a blessing, I have read so many books that I might not have otherwise even heard of! I love the spirited discussions we have every month, it’s such a good way to visit with friends!
reading Educated and Bridge of Clay right now and enjoying both. I would add The Hate You Give to your list. One of the most powerful books I have read in a long time.
Verina was really Great!
Excellent!
I loved Evelyn Hugo too.
I want to second the recommendation of Beneath a Scarlet Sky, that book is so good!
If you liked Uneducated, you should try The Sound of Gravel!
Such a great list! Have read lots on your list and have several that you listed coming up! Excited to read them!!
The Great Alone is SO good – seriously one of my favorite books I’ve read in a long time.
i also enjoyed this book however it was heavy at times. it also had some similarities to some things in the past for me so it was difficult. but i agree an excellent read.
Jen – I just finished Something in the Water. SO SO good…it keeps you hanging and definitely has some unexpected turns! Thanks for the rec!
Awesome, thank you!
