My makeup bag was in serious need of an update so I stopped by Sephora last weekend to do a little shopping. What I love most about Sephora is the ability to browse and shop multiple major makeup brands without having to go counter to counter. I get why makeup counters exist and how they are beneficial but sometimes it’s fun to mix and match brands and Sephora is definitely the place for doing that!
Here are four products that I picked up and have been using all week.
Benefit World Famous Neutrals, $30
I default to neutrals for my day-to-day look given that I spend most of my time in gyms and yoga studios. What I love most about this product is that it’s a kit that comes with four powder shadows and two creams and that all of the colors are really pretty. I also appreciate the tips and tricks that are included with the kit as well as the fun packaging. The only thing I don’t love about this is that it’s a little bulky to fit in my makeup bag to carry around in my gym bag.
Benefit Beyond Mascara They’re Real!, $23
I had Diorshow Mascara in my hand but the sales associate who was helping me convinced me to go with Benefit’s They’re Real! instead. What I love about Sephora is that he told me to bring it back if I didn’t love it, no questions asked. I felt like I had to try it! I am a mascara addict and I have tried so many brands and formulas. I still haven’t tried Diorshow (let me know if you have!) but he didn’t steer me wrong on this mascara from Benefit. What I like about it is that it’s buildable and doesn’t get clumpy as you build. You can start with one coat for a natural look or go with two or three for a little more drama. This mascara gives me length and volume. It’s a long wearing formula that isn’t waterproof but doesn’t easily smudge or run. I have worn it to teach hot yoga without a problem.
Dior Addict Gloss, $29.50
I really needed a new go-to every day lip gloss in a pretty but fairly neutral color. The sales associate I was working with recommended the Dior Addict gloss and I went with a creamy pink. I bypassed any sparkle or sheen in favor of a straight up gloss. The verdict? Amazing. It not only feels great on…super hydrating and smooth…but the color is spot on too. While it looks really pink in the tube it doesn’t go on that bright.
Sephora MicroSmooth Baked Blush Duo, $17
I selected the fuchsia flushed color because I always gravitate towards pinky blushes. I just love a little pop of color on the cheeks. What I also like about this blush duo is that one side is shimmery and the other is flat so you can mix and match or just use one side for different day/night looks. This blush is s serious winner for the price.
So there you have it…I want to do a mascara round up post sometime in the next few months. Please let me know if you have any to recommend as “must try”…drugstore or beauty counter brand.
Have you tried any new makeup products lately that you’re loving?
I finally tried Diorshow after hearing about it for ages and have really loved it! Makes my lashes look long and thick and has never really been smudgy. As a fellow mascara fanatic, I’d recommend it (although I may need to try the Benefit brand now).
I recently bought DiorShow after using Benefit’s They’re Real for months. DiorShow does NOT compare. Benefit’s brush highlights individual lashes in a way DiorShow doesn’t. Benefit also brings the length and volume and adding layers adds drama. DiorShow just doesn’t compare! I have been trying to eek out whatever is left in my They’re Real bottle instead of using my brand new DiorShow!
These all look great! I love nude shadows too. I just recently got the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette – it’s like a smaller, matte version of their naked palettes. Really awesome with tons of handy nude shades to use for work.
Jen I have tried fancy, cheap, even fake lashes but nothing works as well as Falsies by Maybelline. The stuff is amazing. It literally looks better than false eyelashes! There are a few variations of it and I’ve tried them all but I stand by the original non-waterproof one
DiorShow mascara will change your life. I love it! Since it is rather pricey, I only use it on non-studio days. If I’m in the gym training or teaching a yoga class I use MAC extreme dimensions mascara. Also awesome!
oh man, If you like They’re Real, then you will HAVE to try Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara.. ha love the name and it’s the best mascara I have ever tried (i’m also an addict and have tried both They’re Real and Diorshow…) Let me know if you ever try it.. 🙂
Janine
I swear by Dior. I am loving the new Star Foundation and Under Eye Concealer and listed their Lip Glow in my Runner’s Holiday gift guide! It’s an awesome lip balm that actually gives your lips color based upon your chemistry so each person will give off a different natural pigment glow on their lips.
ive tried them all… I have super short eyelashes, and I thought I loved benefit “they’re real” until I tried tarte “lights camera lashes”! if benefit is good, tarte is great, trust me! it gets the little lashes in the way benefit doesn’t. my favorite, ever!
My new, Sephora-supported obsession is filling in my eyebrows. I’ve recently got the hang of Anastasia’s dip brow gel, but her eyebrow pencils are super easy and beginner friendly! Filling in my brows totally brightens my face and just makes me feel so put together.
I remember eyeing that lipgloss when I was in Sephora awhile ago…I am a MAC girl and definitely need a update on my makeup kit. Maybe I’ll schedule a makeover, so I can get some product…an excuse to look extra gorgeous for holiday parties. 😉
A co-worker of mine is also a professional makeup artists and she steered me in the direction of “Benefit, their real” mascara as well. I LOVE it, the brush is awesome and your lashes look great. Just make sure you have eye makeup removal to take it off at the end of the day!
I like to use natural makeups, especially around my eyes! When I go to yoga I sweat a lot (yesterday!) and my makeup runs in my eyes. I worry less about that when I wear products with fewer chemicals. Right now I’m using Josie Maran’s argan oil mascara and concealer crayon and like them a lot!!
Diorshow mascara gave me a horrible allergic reaction – my eyes puffed up and burned. I tried it twice about a year apart and it was definitely the mascara both times. Luckily Sephora has a great return policy! It must just be something in that particular mascara though because I’ve been using Dior Blackout mascara for years and love it!!
I have the exact same lipgloss, and it’s fabulous! Another favorite of mine is bare minerals gloss in Dare Devil. It looks really purple in the tube, but goes on gorgeous!
DiorShow is my favorite mascara, but I only buy it every once in a while or for special occasions. I usually switch among MAC Opulash, Falsies, or Neutrogena Healthy Volume. I wanted to like They’re Real, but it always leaves me with a smudged mess bc my skin is oily and my lashes hit my brow bone.
I love jordana mascara. It’s super cheap and looks awesome. Same for their big crayon-like eyeliners.
Also loreal has a new eyeshadow, I got the iced latte color. The combo has gotten me more compliments on my makeup than ever in my life!
i love CK ONE mascara. The brush switches/twists and has two different setting long and lean to lengthen and short and fat to make lashes more fuller. It’s great as you are able to layer your look. I also appreciate that the formula isn’t water proof but won’t smudge or run though out the day.
I haventhe neutral kit too and love it but agree ts bulky
I tried diorshow and thought it was ok but it dried out superfast so I was really disappointed. I like benefit mascara much better
DiorShow waterproof is the only mascara I use. I’ve tried both the DiorShow regular and the waterproof and the regular formula is way too heavy and leaves my lashes flat after 10 minutes. I highly recommend DiorShow waterproof! Also, I think I may have to try that Dior lipgloss- I have the Dior Addict lip glow and love it.
