I have to say that I enjoyed your comments on my last post but my grandmother loved them. I know I’ve mentioned this before but she reads my blog every day! When I got home from my run this morning she had just read the “Surprise Visit” post and said that it made her a little teary eyed!
Speaking of my grandmother reading the blog, she also pays her bills online, has a Nook and reads my Twitter feed. Pretty cool, huh? Let’s get her commenting on PBR! ๐
And because she reads my blog every day, I arrived at her house to find the fridge stocked with this…
Greek yogurt and fresh fruit galore!
Breakfast after my run this morning was vanilla Greek yogurt with bananas, raspberries, blueberries and peaches.
I had to work for a few hours this morning but we broke for lunch and a trip to Sam’s this afternoon.
We had lunch at McAllister’s Deli. I ordered the veggie pita – tomato, lettuce, roasted red peppers, green peppers, cucumbers and provolone. It was just okay. The oatmeal raisin cookie the size of my hand I had for dessert more than made up for it though!
And then it was off to Sam’s Club for a shopping extravaganza. Sam’s is pretty much one of my grandmother’s favorite places to go. She had a list of things to stock up on and I was happy to keep her company! (And add a few things to the cart!)
Today’s stellar deals included 2.5 pounds of organic, fair-trade French roast coffee for $16, 96 tampons for $9, giant bags of Stacy’s Pita Chips for $5, new kitchen rugs for $10 and 150 loads worth of laundry detergent for $10.
That place is trouble!
We were both in need of a pick me so we stopped by Starbucks on the way home.
Mema loves Frappuccinos! I had another Soy Awake Tea Latte despite the fact that it was 98 degrees outside.
I cooked dinner tonight. My grandmother picked up a rotisserie chicken yesterday so I brainstormed ways to use it and decided on a simple pasta dish. I got to work on my creation.
I put together a simple salad.
Mixed greens, strawberries, pecans, dried cranberries, blue cheese and honey balsamic vinaigrette.
And my pasta creation featured rigatoni with chicken, asparagus, grape tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and garlic. I used Alouette garlic herb cheese and a little chicken broth as my sauce. It was delicious!
We were done eating and had the kitchen clean by 7:45. I’m usually not even starting dinner until then. It was great! I’ve just been vegging on the couch tonight, working on the blog, watching the Braves and chatting with Mema. There was also an ice cream break thrown in there.
Vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and melted White Chocolate Wonderful peanut butter (I finally picked some up after your suggestions that I try it – so good!). It kind of tasted like a Reese’s Cup on ice cream. Mmm….and don’t judge me for double desserts today. It was awesome! ๐
Off to read in bed. Finishing The Hunger Games tonight.
I’m trying to get a long run in tomorrow morning. 8-9 miles – wish me luck! What are you doing this weekend? Any fun plans or good workouts planned?
Your grandmother is sooo awesome and tech savvy!
You make me miss my grandma! Good for you having this weekend with her.
How good is The Hunger Games! I just finished it. I’m also planning on a long run in the morning – hope it’s one of those days where is just feels EASY! Enjoy ๐

I was actually raised by my grandparents and was extremely close to my grandma. Miss her every day; but my grandad and I speak on the phone several times a week and he’s pretty cool too ๐ He’s so sweet and so supportive of everything I do.
Good luck with your run!
PS: I think this is my first comment on your blog…have been reading for a while though and never miss a post ๐ Hi from the UK!

Your grandma’s so cool! I have to admit…I’m a little bit jealous. Go Mema and all her tech savvy, starbuck’s loving ways!Enjoy your time with your her ๐
Your Mema is precious!
I’m just about to head out for a long run in a few minutes, 6-7 miler for me. What do you eat before your early morning long runs?? Or even before your short ones? Pre-workout eating/fueling is always something I hear a bagillion suggestions for and haven’t quite figured out what works best for me just yet…
hi irene – yesterday i was BAD and only had juice! before long runs i always have peanut butter toast and sometimes add banana. it’s my tried and true! before shorter runs…nothing but maybe some juice if it’s early in the morning. if it’s later in the day i will try to have a snack an hour or so before like a larabar, nuts or an apple with some peanut butter.
just keep experimenting!
Your grandma may be the coolest person ever – except my grandma of course ๐ It’s so amazing that she is so savvy and cool (Starbucks? AWESOME!). Enjoy your time with her.
YOu are really lucky to have such a great relationship with your grandmother. I am certainly jealous!

Oh I love White Chocolate wonderful! I had it in my morning smoothie with almond milk, banana and xantham – deeeeelish!! You’re grandma rocks. Mine does email, blogs and stuff, too. GO GRANDMAS!
What a fun day!!! You are going to LOVE the Hunger Games! I put them on my ipod for my commute and I found myself listening to it on my lunch break because it is so addicting ๐
Also love your whole approach to eating! Its really encouraging after YEARS of obsessing and counting calories. ๐
lindsey – thank you so much for your comment! i just try to be really balanced about eating. i am so active and eat so healthy 95% of the time so i don’t beat myself up when i want to splurge!
Jen’s Mema is awesome, she is also the coolest ever Aunt Ree. I have fond memories of spending summers in Whiteville, N.C. with her. She use to buy us Sun Drop sodas and shaved snow cones every day. The very first time I ever stayed in a hotel was with her and Uncle Bill in Myrtle Beach. I was about 9 years old, and I felt so grown up and fancy. Thanks for the lifetime memories Ree, I love you very much. Frani
