Hey guys! I’m alive…just having to prioritize at the moment and work is currently ranking #1. On Monday night we had a Coach’s WOD at our new location. It was our first time working out there and it was awesome!
What was NOT awesome, on the other hand, was the workout that our Director of Crossfit planned for us.
It was so nicely called “Dirty Bitches” and involved us doing three of the girl WODs.
Fran
21 – 15 – 9 (three rounds, decreasing reps)
– Thrusters
– Pull ups
Karen
– 150 wall balls (my dream come true)
Elizabeth
21 – 15 – 9
– Power Cleans
– Ring Dips
I broke the wall balls up into 15 sets of 10. It was pretty much as terrible as it sounds. I completed the workout in around 23 minutes but I didn’t do the prescribed weight for anything. There was no way that was happening. Regardless, I was still physically shaking at the end. It was brutal!
We are all so excited about the grand opening of the new location! Metro CrossFit & Training Center opens next Monday and we’ll be offering FREE classes all week. If anyone in the Charlotte area wants to come try out a class, please email me and I’ll get you set up – jen (at) metrofitnessclub (dot) com.
Other items of note…
My car went crazy and I had to spend yesterday morning camped out at the Honda dealership. Luckily, they have workstations and I was able to get a lot done. And I spent $415. Awesome. I cannot complain though. My Accord is just shy of 100,000 miles and this is the first maintenance I’ve had to do on it other than oil changes/tire stuff.
I decided that I needed a relaxing lunch break in the midst of yesterday’s craziness and finally tried Fern. It’s a vegan/vegetarian restaurant that opened last fall and has been receiving amazing reviews. One of my yoga students is the executive chef and I have been dying to try it and to support her. She was so sweet to send out the bruschetta appetizer – warm vegetable ragu over charred garlic bread.
I wanted to branch out and order some of the more creative dishes on the menu but I had heard such great things about the Om Burger that I couldn’t resist. The burger is a mix of white beans, tofu and hemp seed and was finished off with pickled fennel, smoked tomato chow chow and jalapeño aioli. I also added goat cheese to mine and it was served on a homemade bun. This was by far the most delicious veggie burger that I’ve ever had. I ordered the seasonal veggies on the side and got a generous cup of freshly sautéed vegetables. Much thanks to Alyssa for a wonderful lunch! I cannot wait to go back to Fern and try other dishes. Alyssa told me they have a new menu launching next week!
Alright, time to get back to it. I do need to squeeze in a run to celebrate National Running Day though!
That workout looks killer. Wish I was in Charlotte to come try out the new place! Been wanting to do CrossFit for awhile now. And I know what you mean about the car…my 4runner has 180,000 miles on it (its a 1999) and for the first time I’m finally having to do some work to it… $1300 worth. ouch. I’m jealous of your $415!! Lol 🙂
Fern looks amazing! I just looked at their menu and it looks fabulous. Thanks for posting. I think I’m going to have to go there and have lunch tomorrow!
did you try it? so amazing!
Not yet. Shooting for tomorrow!
I did a free WOD with Reebok at a local running store and it was my first time doing Crossfit and wall balls. DANG my shouders were sore for 2 days from that but it was a great workout. I plan to check out a local Crossfit box. The new place looks GREAT!
oh that’s so coo that you did a reebok sponsored wod. let me know what you think about your local box!
I thought it was National Running Day! I heard it on the radio and they referenced it as in “if your running late for work, you must be celebrating” so I wasn’t sure. But, I’m glad I got in 2 miles this morning to celebrate–even if it was unknowingly!
Love Fern and the OM burger!
I have passed Metro so many times but have never been inside. It looks like y’all have done a great job with it!
Sending you an email now about the free (yay!) classes next week!
Thank you so much for coming to Fern yesterday!! Can’t wait for you to come back when the menu changes, the summer-time has given us such amazing produce!!
I saw the invite for crossfit and I am so eager to try, the new place is down the street from my apt, so convenient! See you soon at Y2!
alyssa – it was amazing and i will definitely be visiting more often now. can’t wait to try the new menu!
just let me know when you want to come in next week. anytime! 🙂
Do you also teach CrossFit?
no, i don’t have my level 1 cert but i’m hoping to get it some time this year so i can start coaching at our gym!
I’m happy to find another woman who runs and does Crossfit – just out of curiosity, have you tried the Paleo diet?
hi erin – i have not. we just did a 2 month paleo challenge at our gym but i didn’t participate. do you eat paleo?
I just wanted you to know that you inspired me to try crossfit! I have been a runner for a long time and have to press myself to lift waits so when a Living social deal for Omaha came along for crossfit I signed up! It is such a different environment and I am really enjoying it so far. I also keep remembering how you always say we have to accept not being good at something at the very start! ( I am def not that good right now!) Love reading about your challenges in the gym 🙂
weights! typed that too fast!
hi joanna – i’m so excited to hear that you are enjoying crossfit. it is a TOTALLY different experience but really fun and challenging too. yes, embrace the “bad!” 🙂
Oh goodness, that workout looks intense! I really want to try out crossfit where I live, but the box is so far away from where I live. Yah, I can completely relate to car troubles like that, my car has over 100,000 miles on it too. Maybe I should just look at getting a new car, I swear it would be cheaper than all the repairs I have to make on it
i hear you – i like my yoga/gym to be close and accessible! there does reach a point where it makes more financial sense to buy a new car than to keep putting money into repairs. i’m going to try to keep my honda going for a little longer though!
That workout sounds intense! Ugh, car issues are no fun 🙁 Glad you got it worked out though. My car has about 140,000 miles on it and seems to be holding up just fine… let’s just keep it that way 😉
sending you good car karma! 😉
Seeing “Karen” on that WOD makes me sick… wall balls are definitely NOT my forte nor my love!
AMEN!
Ho-ly crap – that WOD looks terrifying. When we did Karen as part of the Open I thought I was going to die. Couldn’t walk down stairs normally for quite a while. Nice work finishing it!
haha – it sucked…but i loved it at the same time! i am so terrible at wall balls that i don’t really do the full squat so i wasn’t too sore in my legs! 🙂
I cannot believe there is a workout that is ALL wall balls. Props for getting through it.
yes, i cannot believe someone made that a workout. seriously? it was NO fun!
Wish I lived nearby so I could try some classes and that restaurant!
150 wallballs?! Holy potatoes.
it was miserable. my neck was sore after from looking up for so long.
Congrats on opening the new CrossFit! That is so awesome that you are able to be a part of that! That workout looks terrible! Each of the WOD’s on their own are brutal I can’t imagine doing all three in a row!
